Ivan Perisic

Following on from the exciting news of our Tractor Partnership.....Perisic boards the flight to China...
but midway through the flight...
somewhere over Tibet the plane is suddenly flanked by 2 F22 Raptors....
What are those red markings on the Tailplane of the fighters?

The pilot of one of the raptors flicks up his mirrored visor to reveal.....

"Maverick" Woodward announces over the radio...."target locked"...."Firing Fox 44"

A flash of light and a briefcase full of cash is fired through the emergency exit of the plane....

Suddenly a grinning Perisic leaps out of the plane!

oh no!

he's falling to his doom....

Pow! a massive parachute unfurls with a Message printed on it....

Ivan Perisic...Brought to You by Qatar Airways... Proud new Airline partner of Manchester United!

"maverick" Woodward waxes his wings in celebration and begins to fly away....

"This is Maverick....target acquired....next waypoint North London...Full burn!"

* cue rousing rendition of "Highway to the danger zone"*
This is obviously completely stupid and unrealistic as we all know Qatar Airways sponsor Barthelona. :nono:

I just don't understand this attitude at all. I mean, what do you think is going to happen if the manager doesn't get the player he wants? The player he thinks fits his system?

Is he going to log on here and message kouroux and ask who he should sign instead, and what system he should now play?

Why does anyone take pleasure in sabotaging their own manager? Why do people only want us to sign players that fit into the system they want us to play? People who aren't Man Utd manager. Or, indeed, a manager of anyone.

This. When the manager has a very clear plan and wants a certain player who fits those needs, what are we supposed to do?

Is Woodward supposed to say feck you, I'll buy this player instead, make it work?

I agree with the fact that Perisic is not some player who'll take us to the next level. But what if he fits in to the manager's team plans and takes the team to a whole new level? Certain players complement the team well and enhance it, even if they are not amazing.

If he does end up going to China then surely we have dropped our interest, it makes no sense for him to fly to China, then have to fly to the states/

I wounder who the back up option will be?

So we're looking for someone less-good, easier to get and perhaps cheaper than Perisic. He needs to be a hard worker, reasonable crosser and preferably comfortable on either wing. Marc Albrighton it is then.

Fair enough so what's to say Perasic is first choice? It's mainly being reported by British media who have been absolutely clueless this summer they had no clue about Lukaku and Lindelof and had us on the verge of Morata 10 times.
Not saying he is but we have been linked with him for a long time now and still look to be in for him, that would kind of imply him being a priority. But like you said most of the media have been found guessing all summer.

Perisic would have been signed already if he was a priority for us. We're just keeping this one warm while Woodie is trying to land a bigger fish.

You would hope this is the case.

If we really want this guy, then surely it would have been done by now.

I tend to agree. The amounts the club is reportedly haggling over is equivalent to loose pocket change for us mere mortals

At this point this will only happen if we cave in and let Inter have their price, which would set a bad precedent in future negotiations. We are in a good place transactions wise after telling Madrid off and finding an alternate striker and we will do well to look elsewhere for a winger too.

If this one's being held up and Auba is now staying at Dortmund, me thinks we blow our load by giving them the nice big cash injection they need in exchange for Dembele. Come on!

So we're based in LA at the minute. 12 hour flight from Beijing. Perisic is currently in Milan, a 14 hour flight from LA.

12 hour flight = definitely off
14 hour flight = still on

?

I think we're looking at him as a potential wing-back, so alternatives might be LB's as well as defensive minded wingers.

If this is a close as many are making out it's very strange that he's on that plane. Inter and Jose are saying they don't know anything about this. Another smokescreen?

This one is very strange..even as United transfer sagas go this one shouldnt be that complicated. The longer it goes on the more I think we have something else bubbling away. Its a pity because at the right price I think he would do a great job for us.

Completely agree with all points made in your post.

We definitely have something else in the pipeline as well I think.

People are allowed to have a different opinion on a football forum, relax mate. You'll find it's quite common in fact and often leads to interesting debate. Some people don't particularly rate Perisic while others do, both parties have valid reasons from what I've read so there is nothing infuriating going on here. You'll have the odd poster who obviously exaggerates one way or the other but that's always the case. Can't always assume a certain person has not watched player x just because you don't agree with their analysis of that player.

It's not about people having an opinion I'm bothered about, I just know 90% of those hating on Perisic are just jumping on the bandwagon with the rest of those that are hating and have never even watched him play. I don't watch him either but as I said I'd prefer to trust Jose and if he wants him it's for a reason, that's good enough for me.

Suggests that, apart from Lingard, he's on a similar level to our other wing options:

He is that rare traditional winger that will stretch play and actually put crosses in. He is fast and will give us genuine width thus will bombard the box with crosses so Lukaku will have a field day (I honestly hope so for our sake). Also he can use both feet and will shoot from range and is a goal threat. The other players should improve regardless anyway. Plus Jose wants him so he must be a key player.

So we are back to the smokescreen theories again?

I sure hope we have a viable Plan A and Perisic is Plan B. He is bang average. That being said, I'll probably stop grumbling if he does sign and get behind him as he deserves a chance before being judged like any other player.

Feel bad for him, Inter are being right difficult with the transfer, but that shows how valuable he is to them which is a good thing. If we don't get him we should definitely tempt ousmane dembele (full muppetry mode).

Flight from Milan to Beijing is 10 hrs long.
Flight time from Beijing to LA is 12 hrs..
He likes flying.

I don't see how getting on a plane to China matters as far as the transfer is concerned. It's mid-July. It may not be ideal for preparation, but it makes no difference in the pursuit of the player. Even if the deal is "close", if it's not agreed, it does Inter no favors at the negotiating table to show weakness and leave him behind.

I have watched him for a good number of years (a coincidence really), considering I have a girlfriend who is from Dortmund and my cousin supports Club Brugge (I'm from Belgium originally) so I've had the opportunity to see him play many times over the last couple of years. At Club Brugge he was quite the revelation and stood out in that team, however at Dortmund he was very hit and miss and reportedly fell out with Klopp there. Perisic then moved to Wolfsburg and that's where I admittedly stopped following his progress. Therefore my judgement/knowledge on him is limited in that regard.

From my knowledge - I think he is quite a limited player and certainly not the type of player which will have supporters at the edge of their seats but then again, maybe that's not what we need right now. I think with the right manager he might end up being a very solid addition and he clearly brings years of experience with him. However a lot of if's and but's here.

There is the solid argument that we miss a talisman in our final third and to be honest I can tell you already that Perisic is not the player who will transform us. United would be his biggest challenge as of yet, make no mistake there, and with the exception of Club Brugge, he has never transformed a team. I think supporters would have been more happy with this signing if we managed to secure Griezmann along with Perisic, however we failed to do so. I am all for signing Perisic providing we do not pay ridiculous money for him and manage to bring in another player who has the potential to transform our attack.

However, I do have the feeling we will not sign such a player this transfer window and I think supporters are beginning to realise this. That's why some people are venting their frustrations over the Perisic transfer, which is admittedly unfair as he could end up being a very solid addition but far from sufficient considering the state of our current squad and apparent lack of quality up front. I we managed to sign Griezmann (which I believe was the plan); I am guessing there would be a very different tone in this thread.

He's clearly only interested in the air miles.

pretty much. I think fans want United to divert the Perisic funds to signing a Griezmann alternative as our issue last season was finishing, unlocking teams (2nd half of the season), fluid attacking play, invention, and many fans are concerned with another lacklustre season of not posing a threat to the bigger sides.

If he is as important as it is made out to be, I'd imagine we would have given in by now. Woodward's gamble didn't pay off and I don't see the point in waiting any longer, Inter have made it quite clear what they want for him.

Nick Cage should play Ivan Perisic when they decide to do a movie about this saga. His type of genre - he'd do well.

Hope he joins. Impressed me whenever I've seen Croatia play and offers something different to our squad.

We're not here to move on. We're here to discuss Perisic.

192 pages for Perisic... madness. Average player and crazy amount of money.
I saw him in the last 2 years a lot of time... Martial is more talented and better player than him, plus younger.
Anyway, I meant our club has to move on.
