Ivan Perisic

Only seen him a handful of times and never ever one that excited me. I'll have to defer to real experts on this one.

Certainly one from left-field and that's a big fee being touted all the same.

Mourinho scouted him constantly throughout the season - it was quite widely reported. He was even at a Croatia game during the season. He doesn't seem to be a back-up signing if he's set to be signed so early.

It was also quite widely reported that we were interested in Silva, but were apparently beaten to the signing. Don't really know what to believe tbh, don't see Perisic as the type of player he'd be settling for. He isn't an improvement on Martial or Mkhi.

I bet Inter fans are reacting in a similar way to our fans about the Rooney/Stoke rumours. Overjoyed.

Hope its 2+1 year deal or something. So we're not stuck with him after Mourinhos gone.

Don't know anything about this guy but I trust Jose in the transfer market. He's 4/4 so far.
Miki has been underwhelming IMO. Cuadrado, Pedro, Salah and Schurle are some previous wingers signed by Jose who underwhelmed in his teams. I believe we need certainty if we want to win titles. Notice how the 2 times Chelsea won the title was when Hazard came out to play and tore the league up? Players like Perisic ain't gonna cut it I'm afraid. They are mere supporting cast.

He's a fast player with some good dribbling skills and will provide us with some width. However he doesn't seem to have much end product and at 28, he's unlikely to improve further. If we end up getting him at £36m, it would be quite an underwhelming signing. I would've expected more ambition from Mourinho and targeting younger and hungrier players.

I don't get all the hate. Jose's been delivering in at least 3 out of the last 4 transfer-dealings. This is obviously a player he wants if he gets him this early. And he's had great success with good squad-players in other clubs. Have some faith.

he's a workhorse, not a bad one, but nothing more. people attack our lack of creativity up front, he's one of the reasons for it. We also need someone who is a lot more consistent.

For the money, bearing in mind he'll register like a 35mil book profit for us, which could unlock Rodriguez, I'm in favour of it.

He is definitely a mourinho style player though. proper pandev.

Along with other jokes about taking Brozovic or Kondogbia in a buy 1 get 1 free deal. That's what inter fans are saying on their forums :(

Take it you've never seen him play for Croatia then? Hes played some good games at major tournaments too.

Darmian and Perisic on our left side of attack

Surely nearly £40m can buy you a lot more than Perisic? Looks like Sanchez is now out the question as well.

He's not the only player we're getting in the market you know ? We can still bring these types of players.

It wasn't widely reported. It came from 1 or 2 reports in France and was mentioned in passing in other articles. It was then hung onto like grim death by fanboys on here who really wished it were true.

Were people on here like this when we signed Bailly?

Or was the Caf okay with that on the basis they'd seen him play against Liverpool in the EL?

Mourinho's the manager.

An average inconsistent winger will really help our poor goal tally.

Please let's just stick with Martial at LW.

£36m is far too much. Surely add another £20m to that and you get Sanchez.

I'm all for a potentially underrated player/new name, but I've seen perisic loads seeing as he's been around for ages and he's pretty average imo

Well Zlatan and Pogba are world class. Bailly was the unknown, so not many people could tell something about him. Mkhi had a fantastic season at Dortmund before moving to us. Perisic is a known player in Europe for years and someone who plays better for Croatia than club teams, and that is pretty much a fact. He always has decent seasons but nothing groundbreaking, ups and downs throughout it. A 28 year old journeyman who is good, but inconsistent and frustrating and always seems ubhappy after a while where clubs are happy to let him go. Inter bought him for 15m pounds 2 years ago and we pay 36m + add ons. You would think he tore the league apart, but no, he had his usual inconsistent season, started well and became shit and uninterested in the end.

Martial has been nothing short of awful the majority of the season, your first sentence is exactly what you could describe Martial as this year.

I think most of the caf thought he was really raw, but he was expected to be a signing for his potential. We weren't quite sure what we were going to get.

This is a 28 year old who had a fairly underwhelming career so far.

Most didn't knew Bailly and the ones who did rated him. We know Perisic mainly because of his Bundesliga days and it's hard to rate him.

I'll also add that Sky Sources claimed we were after James.
Sky sources was debunked quite a while ago but continue to panic anyway

We've already got Mkhitaryan, Mata and Martial as an attacking trio, so someone like Turan or Willian wouldn't be a worry for me. That's assuming we're signing someone like Griezmann too. Perisic was a league winner in a better Dortmund team than United currently and he's definitely approaching his peak.

The Inter fan is spot on, a negative grafting winger, "proper Mourinho player" which is shorthand for this type of workhorse nothing player, at this point I'd just pray he's going to be used as a LB.

Not really a fair comparison. Bailly is young and there seemed to be touted potential to give the move the benefit of the doubt (and of course it looks like a bargain now).

At the end of the day, Allegri made Mandzukic look like a world beater and one of his most essential players. Here's hoping:cool:
I like your sense of humour and hope because I like many on here have been left rather confused, and very very disappointed by this rumour. I wouldn't say we are in meltdown territory because there is more business to be done and a whole 3 months left of disappointments to follow. But the thought spending 1/4 of our budget on him  In the Griezmann thread, there were some posters who were against the idea of Man Utd spending half our budget on a player that was ranked 3rd in the world and scored 100 goals in 4 seasons, in a non CF role. well SURPRISE mother feckers!
