Ivan Perisic

It's kinda sad to see people desperately hoping our manager misses out on one of his key signings.

I'm looking forward to getting him as a player but there's something about his face I just don't like for some reason.

It's not as aesthetically pleasing if that's what you're referring to, but I don't see why that would matter

He looks a little like Robben who, for all his undoubted quality, is a bit of a cnut.

I think some of you may have forgotten that United is not a selling club. We buy a player who will help bring success to the club winning competitions is how the club makes money and that has a flow on effect (sponsorships, tv deals etc etc etc). If Jose thinks this 28 year old brings that to the club i trust his judgement.

Unfortunately I played too much FM to be excited about this signing (old, overpriced, potential ability already reached, no re-sale profit)
Seriously speaking though I remember watching him play for Croatia and thought he was quite explosive. If this goes through I hope him and Lukaku could make a deadly duo.

On the subject of him and Lukaka forming a double act, is there any good evidence to suggest Lukaku is that good in the air at nodding in crosses? I'm not an expert on Lukaku. I'm hoping he's not one of these huge people like Fellaini or Crouch who actually isn't that good in the air.

Perisic does not dive in the penalty box. If he did, he would be like Robben.

I could not be more happier if we get this guy for the 352 formation. Valencia and perisic as wingbacks; we would have one of the scariest flanks in the whole world.

Maybe people should look at this as a Nedved to Juventus type signing. Cheer people up abit.

Did he ever play wingback? People keep saying that he's perfect for a 3-5-2 but to my knowledge he played as a winger for basically his entire career.

Jose would forget about 3-5-2 after the first loss.

Interesting that in the piece on Perisic, Ducker says Mourinho name-dropped Alexis Sanchez unprovoked in LA. Mourinho normally has a reason for everything.

Can't see where everyone fits in if he gets Perisic AND another forward. Unless he goes 3-5-2 with Perisic a wing back

Martial clearly isn't what Jose is looking for though. He wants someone who can whip in a cross for Lukaku and who can get back and defend when needed. Martial isn't great at tracking back, and he often tries to run inside rather than cross.

He's actually not that good in the air. He'll win headers sure, but his accuracy is pretty poor. He's better at running onto good through balls (ie. he and Pogba will have great fun)

I bet half the people complaining about him and saying he's shite have barely seen him play a football match and isn't a "Flashy" name for some people.

I think Perisic brings something different to us and was fantastic in the Euros last summer, even thought he was their best player during it. Give the man a chance before ridiculing him. People complaining about his age being 28, who cares If he wins the Premier League title and contributes heavily to it I wouldn't give a toss If he's 18, 28, 38 etc.

I think this is going to happen - happy days.

Jose would forget about 3--5-2 after the first loss.

Well even if the 352 didn't happen again after a loss; he is able to play for both formations that Jose has chosen last season & this preseason; it isn't exactly a made up dream of mine.

Perisic in my mind is a LM, the same way that Valencia is a RM and not a RW. Playing both as wingbacks; they aren't really players keeping with the defensive line - I see it simply as a wide midfielders who start from a more reserved area of the pitch.

If that doesn't work then sure he can play a bit more forward as one of our main attacking outputs; but that is why I think some of the fans on here are having mixed feelings. Him starting as an attacker on the left wing actually doesn't bring the best out of the whole squad; only just Lukaku( though that is just my opinion).

If we end up putting him at LWB, he actually ends up filling a significant weaknesses of the squad we have had for some time

I changed my mind again. You know, Lingard can be a wingback. The feck, 50 mil for this guy. Martial would be great this season. Forget that stupid 3-5-2. The coach who deploys 5 at the back and plays wingers as wingbacks, basically 7 at the back, would never go for that system. Not enough safety at the back. Any 4-3-3, 4-1-4-1, 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1, whatever, is a better system.

As other posters have said, if this is a player Jose wants, you just have to trust him. That's it really.

Yep me too - this is the type of signing that Jose would have not just wanted but a player that would either make or break a transfer window.

There is absolutely no reason to get a striker like Lukaku with only one player in our whole squad who can cross the ball in valencia. It makes even less sense to me to play one at RB and another at LW or LM instead of playing both as wingbacks; giving them license to lean forward.

You know what? I agree.

I don't always agree with how Jose handles his squad, but he wins more than he loses. If we'd finished more of our shots on goal we'd have finished higher in the league, and imo that isn't his fault.

If he wants a taller, more experienced and better passing Jesse Lingard I don't have a problem with it. The price is irrelevant until it hinders our purchasing of other players.

Come to United Ivan!!!!

He is going to China with inter

:(

Really? Where did you read that?

Lukaku is not Miroslav Klose. Martial/Rashford and Miki/Mata would provide better ground service to Lukaku than Valencia and Perisic as wingbacks.

Not surprised after watching the highlights of Perisic. He fits the bill for Mourinho's 4-3-3. In the mold of Damien duff/arjen robben back in the day.

Would make sense and he does look like a decent option on the wing. Im sure he works his bollocks off defensively too which is all important to Mourinho.
Can't really see why Perišić fits the bill for Mourinho's 4-3-3 better than 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2 or even 4-4-2. In fact, on could very well defend the contrary.

Not too bad compared to some of the prices being quoted

Hm? There was never any price higher than that being quoted, only lower. Inter have been asking for €50m (£44m) from the start. We're just paying full asking price. As per usual.

I hate posts like these, only serves to escalate the shitty climate where opinions are getting so polarized that it's not even meaningful to reply anymore.

We're all wrong about things, I've been sceptical of alot of our signings in recent years but I was over the bloody moon when we signed Memphis and Shaw for example. A little searching in your history and I can find posts of yours wanting Clyne, Coleman or basically anyone over Valencia at RB and that Darmian would be our first choice RB for five years ahead as long as he could stay healthy.

I think there's a difference between hoping for the best in players without any evidence (you with Memphis and me with Darmian for example) and being overtly negative about players also without evidence (Perisic). I'm just basically calling out the latter, because the negativity is ridiculous in here. I get your point though.

I was also over the moon about Shaw too. :/

This a good point & exactly why the reason I think perisic at LWB would be more useful than at LM. At LM perisic to Lukaku is our plan A; whilst at LWB it is our plan B - a plan we have on the pitch whilst the likes of martial, rashfprd and Mkhitaryan can do their jobs higher up the pitch.

Last I heard was £48m. Obviously it's still too much, but whatever

well said Sir. Do not forget "Bastian feeee*ing Schweinstaiger, when he joined everybody was over the moon as well, and not to mention DiFec*ing Maria too. That turn out well. I don't remember, but pretty sure Fellaini did not get this much stick. Or anyone else. I'm also sure if Ivan joins us, (fingers crossed) a lot of people here will eat their own words. Not only he will very quicky become fan favorite, but also very important player too.
