Ivan Perisic

Set pieces, counter attacks and defense are better with him in the starting 11. Especially if he's stuck on the right wing and we keep Martial as the left wing in a 4-3-3

Anyone disagree? If so, please explain why.

I mean, Jose is one of the few top managers that puts as much importance on the defensive side of the ball as he does offense. Perisic fits that...at least if he can be a starter on the right side instead of Lingard.

Seems I was wrong and he has more to offer than I remember. He might be a great signing but I couldn't help but notice that in all of the videos I watched he made only 1 or 2 assists after his dribbles. Most of his crosses were terrible actually which is worrying since many people say it is one of his strong points.

Can someone post his crossing success percentage?

Give the guy a break... He hasn't even signed yet and you guys are already treating him like you did when Fellaini signed. Embarrassing to be frank lampard

OK, accidentally found some stats :) 36 games, 8 assists, 239 crosses which is roughly 30 crosses per assists, doesn't seem that great.

It doesn't matter, Perisic also does that sometimes.

by caf logic...isnt this racist?

There's a lot of comparing apples to oranges in here. Perisic's starts aren't amazing but he's playing for a bang average Inter side. You don't sign players and tell them "Just do what you did at your old club, but better this time", he's being signed for his skill set/ability. Jose has an idea of what he wants his wingers to do and he feels that Perisic has the best skill set to perform the role he wants.

It's hiring 101, you don't hire then move people into positions, that's job creation and that's how you end up with an unbalanced squad and players shoehorned into positions they're not a natural in.

It reached the stage of Zaha being better than Perisic ? When will we say Obertan and Bebe are better, too ?

You're a Croat and even you don't rate him? Bodes well.
He is sarcastic. We croats know what perisic can do and how good he will be for us.
I really can't remember when one potential signing got this much negative criticism like perisic. People were ecstatic about Darmian and schneiderlin for example.

We signed the best right winger in Germany last season and it didn't really work out as we expected. Before that we signed Memphis, very exciting young Dutch winger. Before that we signed Di Maria.

Maybe signing random top players isn't the right way? How about a system that isn't ridiculously unbalanced and where players who actually have the right qualities for their roles play?

I'm not surprised about Memphis. I always had my doubts when we signed him. The difference in quality between those 2 leagues is enormous. The Eridivisie is a fun league to watch and all but its defending is absolutely awful. Mkhi was very surprising. I thought he'd take a little while to adjust to the physicality of the league but I expected far better. Hopefully, this season he will improve. Di Maria would have worked had it been under Jose instead of van Gaal, I have no doubt. His first few games he was easily our best player. After about a month it was clear he had no interest anymore. Just because there were a few high profile flops doesn't mean we shouldn't keep looking for top players. More often than not they will improve the team. I don't see us winning the league without van Persie's signing.

@Ban , i am newbie so nobody cares about my comments, bad if ivan turns out to be a bad signing, you are fecked.

You're really comparing Zaha to Bebe and Obertan? Come on now, hard to deny Zaha had a good season last year. Not sure I'd agree he's better than Perisic but he seems to be developing into a very good player.

What's the craic with the Caf' nowadays? I know we've always had our morons (myself included), but the disdain for a possible Perisic transfer in this thread is horrendous. Honestly, most of you haven't seen him play. I don't remember the Fellaini thread even being this bad, but I could be wrong. Hope match going fans give the guy a chance anyway.

No the Fellaini thread was quite mixed which is actually shocking tbh. Perisic is definitely a better player than Fellaini was when we signed him I'll give him that. At the same time I had no idea how anyone could actually try to claim Fellaini was a good signing

Err.. when did I compare Zaha to Obertan ? I'm talking about comparing him to Perisic.

Zaha is a midtable level player for me. He's playing at the club he deserves to be in it.

Antonio Valencia *only* had 5 goals and 7 assists in 29 league games during his first season but most everyone would agree he was fantastic for us that year. Don't think it's inconceivable for Perisic to provide similar to that in terms of overall impact

Possibly the addition of newbies being able to post in the transfer forum.

Really?

Was it boring when other posters repeated it non stop?

Cuz the same shit (excuse the pun) being repeated when it is fair to assume that most who are saying this have only seen a few Youtube clips of him and/or are spoilt brats and just want Utd to sign galaticos!!!!

You mentioned them in your post suggesting you think comparing Zaha is almost as crazy. Spurs seem to be monitoring Zaha so I'm not sure about him being midtable for too much longer. He's probably midtable for now but having watched him a lot last season I'd expect he'll continue to improve a lot. For what it's worth Palace fans think he's fantastic and generally mock United for selling him. Not saying we were wrong to, just that he isn't a bad or average player by any means

Exactly.

So true Mourinho wants him I trust his judgement.

The only negative in the deal is his age and a high price tbh (and the price doesn't really matter when it comes to United does it?). So strange that people are against a player that makes sense for out squad in pretty much every other way. Even the age thing isn't a huge deal as it still gives Martial and Rashford a good opportunity to take over when they fulfill their potential and doesn't really block their progression.
