Ivan Perisic

Very exciting signing. Proper winger that can cross, almost like the days of yore. Lukaku is going to thrive on his delivery.
Goals that occur from crosses are criminally underrated in the world of football, especially now that we're in an age where it's far more aesthetically pleasing to pass the ball into the back of the net instead. I've always considered United to be a team that had great wing play but maybe that was just a staple of the Ferguson era and not something we should expect anymore.

I really hope we go with actual wingers this season and less of the inside forward game we've been persisting with over the last few seasons. I miss the days of Beckham and Giggs whipping in crosses for our strikers to put away. There was always a sense of danger when you saw them shaping up to put one in the box. If Perisic can offer this then I'm all for this transfer, even if we do overpay in the end.

My apologise, I only read your reply to me and missed your other post.

But yeah, that is my point exactly. People keep harping on about how we should buy player x, y & z but they just aren't realistic. Personally, I feel we have a lot of 'potential' in our team and can do with some proven, such as Perisic.
I agree and therefore, I don't mind us buying Perisic. He will give enough room to other players, wont demand a starting place but it will add competition. So let's see if we can buy him for a reasonable price we're willing to pay

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale would have scored 5 goals each in that game. You scored 2 yourselves

Yes they are quality players and good goals corers. Thats what we need (not necessarily them).
Peresic can add another dimension I am fine with that, I am not all that fixated on crossing, we have bigger problems in our attack like lack of serious goal scorers.

Fail links and no translation. Have another go

Does this satisfy you Hans?! :

Fee agreed for Perisic
Manchester United agree £40million fee with Inter Milan for Ivan Perisic

Perisic has told the Italian giants all summer he wanted to move to Old Trafford and will jet out to meet the United squad in America to complete move.

The Italians have stood firm on their valuation of Perisic, but now the deal looks close to being finalised.

Inter are set to complete a deal for Lazio star Keita Balde following a loan enquiry for Anthony Martial.

But finally the long running saga is over and the former Borussia Dortmund star will finally get his wish of making the switch to the Premier League.

SunSport exclusively revealed in May the 28-year-old wideman has agreed to move to Old Trafford on a £100,000 per week deal.

United are exptected to turn thier attention to
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic who has not travelled with Antonio Conte’s squad for their pre-season tour of the Far East.

The Serbian star has fallen down the pecking order at
Stamford Bridge with the signing of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The Reds kicked off their pre-season tour with a
5-2 win over LA Galaxy on Saturday.

A Marcus Rashford brace and goals from Marouane Fellaini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial did the damage for Mourinho’s men at the StubHub Center.

it might not be the most glamorous signing but having Martial and perisic rotating over the course of the campaign is a win-win in my book. One sub in a game completely changes the left side of our attack.

If martial is ineffective with his runs/take-on's, perisic comes in to exploit potential crossing weaknesses. Oppo CB's have to adapt to a new style of attacking from the left.

If perisic is ineffective with his crossing one week, martial comes on after HT and completely dominates a tiring RB with pace and ability.

On the contrary, getting in BEHIND a defence to the byline is the best way to break a deep lying defence. You can then cut the ball back and shoot (like how martial scored this weekend). Playing through the middle is much harder than stretching a team out. If you don't have quick and very technical players who are good at interchanging you'll suffer, like we did.

Teams have always come to O.T and sat back and defended, but fergie killed them with width, overlapping runs and good crosses/pull backs. Eventually they will break.
You will stretch the defence only if they are indisciplined and follow the ball wide. Instead they will stay narrow and let you have the ball in the wide area that is not a direct threat

Feel free to cross as much as you want, it will all boil down to the CBs v strikers in dealing with the crosses, and most often than not, the CBs will win the battle.

No defender in the world will just stand there and let you pick an easy cross into the box, they will attempt to come and close you down otherwise you could just dribble into the box and pick an easy pass.

Yes crowding the box will make it more difficult, but if you've ever played football you will know in that situation it's much easier to score than defend. The ball can drop and spill anywhere and a tap in can happen easily.

Football doesn't work like that.

As they say, the player is worth whatever the buyer pays for him. But the only slight positive I have about this, from many of the negative peoples view, if he does half decent, people will be happy. Personally, I think has all the skill set to let our other more creative/flair players shine.

Never said the full back would stay in the box, but that he will not follow you to the sideline.

What you would have is a very similar situation to a deadball close the corner flag. The CBs will be deep and less likely to be facing their own goal, making it easier to contest the crosses. The fullback is mainly to prevent easy access to the box and try to block the cross. But the fullback should not close down and risk being beaten (a winger tracking back usually does the closing and pressuring)

Personally, give him one more season. If Jose does play more of the wing back system, I then think we will see the best of Shaw.

We cant keep adding/keeping players as backup just so we can keep giving chances to other players. Its unfair on the former who might see their only opportunity to become first teamers go to the shitters and its unfair for the club who is paying players who regularly fail to deliver mou has a big decision to make here. If shaw remains than that means he believes that shaw is reliable. If not then shaw should leave

Sky getting in on the action as well.
Manchester United are making progress with a deal to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan, Sky sources understand.

Perisic's price has been a sticking point in protracted negotiations between the teams, with Inter holding out for £48m for the 28-year-old.

But Inter are now in advanced talks to sign a replacement for Perisic - Keita Balde from Lazio - and that could smooth the way for the Croatian to move to move to United.

Perisic was given permission to leave Inter's training camp in the Alps on Saturday to return to Croatia to see a "trusted dentist" because of a "tooth abscess".

United have brought in Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku already this summer but Jose Mourinho has made it clear he wants at least two more signings before the transfer window shuts on August 31.

Looks like this has legs. Can't say I'm too happy about it, but let's hope that I'm wrong and he becomes a resounding success and does his part in elevating us from sixth placers to title challengers. In the end, that's the only thing that matters.

This was a done deal from the beginning, only waited for Inter to buy a replacement and sell him for a relatively acceptable fee, which is happening the last few days

I still expect United to "Morata" him and bid for someone else in the last minute. Hopefully Inter get stuck with him and the replacement and can't afford both and get done by ffp.

Rumours are that Jose feels he is showing enough to gain a position in the first team this year. But anyway, from what he said the other day, he won't be ready until end of the calendar year, so any transfer out would be very unlikely.

I think this wil be done in next two days, the day perisic left their training was the day deal must have been done.

If they do that with Lukaku and Pogba in the box, they will be in for a world of hurt.

Teams that play defensively typically stay narrow and compact, being willing to deal with as many crosses as you want to put in.

Wingers staying wide is usually less beneficial for the #10 as he can become isolated in the middle with limited options for short passes or 1-2s

You want width when teams are playing compact defensively, its where the space is. You have to try and stretch the defensive, and the best way and places to do that are wide. Stretching that defence gives far more room to the central players then, including the #10 should we be playing one. Far too often United teams play too narrow and it becomes far too congested. Having a player who's disciplined enough to stay wide will be a great asset.

Still not 100% sure about this guy but I trust Jose. Looking at his clips he looks decent, he can obviously dribble with pace and put in a decent cross. Shame about his age, that's the sticking point for me.

If that fee is correct, I can live with it. It's a reasonably fair price adjusted for the inflation of the market this summer.

Its because he can't really use his left foot. He actually does cut back to his right and put in a few balls to the back post every now and then, but playing on the left as a right footer isn't going to lead to tons of crosses.

That's decidedly not true. He often does go on the outside of a full back and put a cross in with his left foot. He's just not someone who puts in too many speculative crosses in to bump up his crossing numbers.

Our average age is one of the lowest in the league. What's the issue with buying a few older experienced players?

That is something most weaker teams would be willing to live with as opposed to the alternative of our skilled player having the space to work with in the middle which typically presents clearer scoring opportunities and possibilities for free-kicks and cards

The wide spaces are willing made available and it is often more effective to have the fullback utilize the space while the winger moves closer to the goal. Having the winger stay wide leaves us a man short in and around the box.

What is more important than stretching the defence is moving the ball quickly when changing the point of attack and dragging defenders out of position.

Seems like The plan will be to use perisic to supply Lukaku. Its a simple plan but could be very effective. Also i think he will be very useful in counter attack. It is not a wow signing but i think like Valencia, it will be a very effective one.

Haven't seen much of him, but from that little I have seen he is two-footed, good pace, good crosser of the ball, works hard. Offers something different as a genuine winger compared to the rest of our attacking options. Should be interesting as a counter-attacking option as well. Hopefully he can add goal-scoring to his game for us as well.

feels like a SAF signing. No frills but does a job that we require.

Manchester united, team renowned for playing with wingers and crosses, known for late goals with the same technique are being questioned if the same will be effective. I would understand if we had rooney/tevez upfront but we have lukaku probably on of the best in air in the prem league.
I also think he wont just be used to cross the hell out of it, he will have counter attacking purpose too.

Mate you are either ignorant or naive, when confronted with a park the bus team you need multiple avenues of attack.

Wide space may be made available but if you're a manager and see the opponent has Pogba Lukaku and likely Fellaini attacking the crosses you'd have to stop the cross.
That then stretches the defence and coupled with players like mata or Mhiki to exploit gaps, the defence will crumble

You're over thinking it.

Width is vital, and yes full backs will also provide width but thats not going to stretch a defensive unit. You need to make the pitch as big as possible. You don't do that with everyone central getting in each others way. You remember people saying Arsenal didn't have a plan B when plan A wasn't working? Precisely what we're talking about here.

Also, it goes without saying. Not everyone will be out wide, I'm specifically talking about Perisic here. He provides something the other wide players in our squad don't. It's about having options.

Exactly. On top of crossing Perisic also scores some wonder goals from time to time.
