Ivan Perisic

Also, what a lot of fans forget is that, we can't always get who we want. Who are the options people would like to have instead?

Different horses for different courses too (is that the saying )I think he'd be excellent in matches where we play the counter attack. Him, Rashford and Lukaku could be deadly on the counter.
And with Lukaku upfront, it makes even more sense. And as I said, even though he might not be an automatic starter, he gives options from the bench. I'm relaxed as long as the other players finally step up now. If they did last season, we would not need to buy

It might not be in our hands. Darmian might want to go back. Also inter want their pound of flesh

Yea, agreed. What I'm just saying is that, if he is happy enough to stay, then we should keep him, at least until the like of Mitchell, Axel & Shaw can prove themselves.

My hope is that he turns out like Valencia did in his first few seasons. Tony V was never a genius, but he made himself a key member of our squad by working hard and relentlessly putting balls in from the right hand side. Just the tonic when Nani was having one of his frustrating days.

Still odd though.

1. OT is a big ground and if we make the pitch bigger enough by having someone who can stay wide, beat his man & deliver a cross (which perisic can do) will be decisive in turning the draws we had last season against bottom half teams.
2. With Mourinho counter attacking style against big teams & in CL he could prove to be very vital.
3. With all the height advantage in our team taking even his height into account we could be lethal on set pieces.
4. With him staying wide and hugging touch line it would allow Micky or whoever plays in no.10 position to flourish.
5. Even though he is not a marquee name but with his attitude and hard work there are more reasons to believe he could turn out be a good signing than flop.

Shaw/blind/mitchell are enough. Unless shaw is crap & a sicknote of course

Four out of that five aren't worth including in the discussion because they are either unattainable or as good as.
Ehem, that was the point mate.... people live in a dream world but want us to sign those players while realistically, we can buy Perisic's

Could be a smart acquisition as discussed earlier in the transfer window when first linked, especially now with Lukaku. What it would mean however is that 1 or 2 of Rashford, Henrikh, Mata or Martial (Likely the latter) will see their minutes evaporate - a loan perhaps?

Someone will not be happy
Dunno about that. Think Mou sees perisic strictly as a midfielder. The idea seems to be playing with two actual forwards(which is how he's almost always played. Even when he had one of the forwards play as a wingback...). So Perisic would ideally be the left wide player. This would allow him to play a defensive-minded left back, and transition from a 442/451 defensive formation, into a 3412 attacking formation. Which, again, is sort of what he did most of last season

Martial and Rashford will likely compete for that second forward spot

We agreed a deal around 12 hours ago I think (based on my rough knowledge of Italian)

So it looks like the Darmian + cash deal is coming?

Not thrilled about this simply because while Perisic is a good player we already know what his best level is, and it is not top class. But he will definitely add something to the squad, not least because we don't really have a proper left-winger in it, and €30m + Darmian doesn't sound too crazy if that's what it is.

Very exciting signing. Proper winger that can cross, almost like the days of yore. Lukaku is going to thrive on his delivery.

His crossing is... okay. He's better at it than our current wide options, but people shouldn't expect De Bruyne-level deliveries. He created 21 chances from crosses last season, which ranks him 74th in Europe's top 5 leagues.

He is different to the wingers we currently have in that all our current ones, no matter which wing they play on all come central far too soon for my liking. Having a player who will stay wide could be invaluable.

Teams that play defensively typically stay narrow and compact, being willing to deal with as many crosses as you want to put in.

Wingers staying wide is usually less beneficial for the #10 as he can become isolated in the middle with limited options for short passes or 1-2s

Give Martial the same amount of playing time and he'll be just as productive if not more.

seems pretty obvious that Jose wants perisic for his crossing abilities. Martial is great for attacking down the wing and trying to get into the box for a shot. However he doesn't cross and nothing suggests he wants to make that part of his game

Furthermore, with CL, i'm more than happy to increase the size of the squad. We were basically running on fumes by the EL final. We need more players for all the competitions in this campaign. Rotating Perisic and Martial is a win-win in my books.

Everyone forgotten Moyes and Fulham already then...

Its because he can't really use his left foot. He actually does cut back to his right and put in a few balls to the back post every now and then, but playing on the left as a right footer isn't going to lead to tons of crosses.

Well Inter are flying out on tour tomorrow, so hopefully this gets sorted today.

On the contrary, getting in BEHIND a defence to the byline is the best way to break a deep lying defence. You can then cut the ball back and shoot (like how martial scored this weekend). Playing through the middle is much harder than stretching a team out. If you don't have quick and very technical players who are good at interchanging you'll suffer, like we did.

Teams have always come to O.T and sat back and defended, but fergie killed them with width, overlapping runs and good crosses/pull backs. Eventually they will break.

That was the point though as I said earlier. I thought the list of these players makes it obvious though....

My apologise, I only read your reply to me and missed your other post.

But yeah, that is my point exactly. People keep harping on about how we should buy player x, y & z but they just aren't realistic. Personally, I feel we have a lot of 'potential' in our team and can do with some proven, such as Perisic.
