Well 90 m is an insane amount of money for dembele, its completely unrealistic when he chose dortmund to develop just last year. Also Silva is gone because Pep called him for his philosophy and sold the dream better, so no point now discussing it.

Also one touchline hugger and work horse in the squad is a must, to provide balance and options and unpredictability. 4141 or 343 or 352 is another system a touch line hugger can be used, 433 wont be the fix system for all games.
I don't know how much of him you know but really isn't in today's market.

Is a must? Since when was that a prerequisite to play quality football?

For 90 m he does not score that much amount of goals as if now for that price. The price is to scare of any potential suitors, and besides we need goals right now so if we are to spend truck loads than better spend on someone who scores so much.

For playing different dynamics against bus parking sides yeah it is essential to have a diverse squad which would include one wide player.

No player is worth £50m imo, but in today's market, this is going rate. He's still young and despite that he really does have some serious attacking influence. His best years are still ahead of him and he looks like his ceiling could be as high as any in his generation. We would need to park the bus too often if we kill off the opposition first. Attacking quality is what wins titles and trophies rather than defensive pragmatism

Then why not sign him giving 20 m just last season. He is good, but yet not that good that he will own this league and score goals galore for 90 m.
Because we are United. We always do things the hard way. Also he wasnt this proven two years ago. But last year he scored like 12 goals and assisted 21. Thats a pretty solid for a 20 year old.

It'll never happen, but he's a dream signing of mine. We'd be getting a better Inter player and a better option in midfield than Matic.
I admit I haven't seen Banega play a single match in years, but he's been relatively poor for a few years now hasn't he? He had all the potential in the world (I'll always remember him as being the only midfielder I've seen go toe-to-toe with 'that' Barcelona midfield and come out on top a couple of times) and he was once a bit of a muppet signing for me as well, but it seems he's never come close to actually achieving the level he could have.

Is there anything to say Mourinho is actually after this guy. Over the past few years I have come to the conclusion that the media have very little in terms of "ITK" from inside Utd.

Media reports from both England and Italy. That's the most we ever have to go on. You're not going to get Mourinho coming out and publicly saying "I love Perisic."

That's my point. People feeling disappointed with Mourinho and his lack of standard etc need to give the guy a break

We are debating who ever we are linked with. Cant fans express their discontent with that? If we have to wait for the club's announcement for everything then we might as well not have a forum.

And if we're counting, I distinctly remember Mourinho attending a Croatia game in the middle of last season, where he apparently met Perisic's entourage, and that's where the Perisic links started from.

Of course you can. But stating discontent matter of factly isn't right. Hypothetical discussions are fair enough as, like you say, its a forum.

There is no foundation to the rumours yet, for all we know Mourinho could be working on a deal for Bale, not Perisic and our fans are accusing Jose of lacking attacking ambition etc etc

Outside of the speculation around Brozovic and Perisic, looking at the reports of that news, I came around that gem from Mourinho:
“I came as a person that wants to relax and enjoy the nice weather, unlike the rainy weather in Manchester.”

Where are the people who lambasted Griezmann?

Maybe these types of wingers are yesterdays men perhaps? There must be a reason that the best teams in the world, look for inside forwards and see success with this approach? I feel having 1 inside forward and 1 out and out winger would be a good combo. Also many are lamenting that United don't have a winger to stretch play, yet their tears are motivated by the fact that Martial, Rashford, Lingard and Miki were so poor in front of goal. If we had a Hazard or Sanchez playing LW but scoring many goals, most would not care that we don't have a traditional winger who stretches play. If Martial was as good as year one, no one would be talking about Perisic and his "tactical suitabilty" to the system.
Football goes in cycle. The pioneer goes before the crowd. When you're using the same/similar tactic to your opponent then you have to have quality that match or exceed your opponent's. Are there any better front line available that match Real, Barcelona? Individual, any central forward that match Lewandolski available? If you're going that way, we have to buy over half the starting line up this windows than just strength a few area & elevating the team as a whole. I meant Herrera will need to get upgraded since as good as he was, he is not specialist defensive midfielder nor unrivaled passer. Mata, & Mkhi needs be upgraded. LB RB (Valencia as good as he is old & not productive enough). Of course the CF position & that wide player position we're discussing. That 9 positions to change including Lindelof as our new signing!!!

You made hypothetical scenario by dismissing tactic altogether to make your point. Sanchez has been doing what he's doing due to Wenger deployed him sometimes as main forward, or using a "decoy" forward who move wide to drag the defenders out of position & create space for Sanchez. On the other wing, Giroud's scoing rate is quite decent but since he's more of a targetman, when he played it stifles Arsenal system. Welbeck even though with terrible conversion rate, gives off a feel that the team plays better. Arsenal fan keep complaining about their forward & the other wing, then those same forwards & wide players complained back that they ain't playing like they want (sacrificing for the team). Talking about Hazard then KDB argument becomes handy. Both need the accommodation, so a competent coach should know it's better pick one or another. Hazard is more influential so often pick. KDB maybe a better player than Willian or at least productive wise, still in a team with Hazard as main man, Willian is a better fit for the team. Willian is disciplined enough to provide the balance for the team. And Hazard is not that adamant to cut inside that much. Cherry on top of that Belgium NT is Lukaku playing as CF who prefer to be the focal point. Conte didn't fancy Willian as much. Pedro was preferred, so what did he do? Remove a central player up the pitch to have 2 primary wide players known as wing back. Pep tried similar with his 3 & 5 at the back. Poch as season went moved to 5 at the back too. Don't forget Wenger as the losing stage of the season. So it again comes back to the same point of following the trend & making wholesale change in your team.

Don't forget football works in cycle. Teams are perfecting their tactic to counter this trend of wide forwards, wide play maker, then once the Ronaldo & Messi tier is no longer. The defense system would then be well equipped to deal with the next successor whom can't reach Messi & Ronaldo's height. It's easy to predict the return of the more classic CF who can physically bully the ball playing CBs & score with some simple direct play.

Not with the likes of Neymar, Dembele, Dybala, Mbappe and Jesus around

Even Neymar is not at Ronaldo & Messi level yet. Neymar is a typical Brazillian player. With their lifestyle, there is doubt he can enjoy a long consistent career as Messi & Ronaldo. The other two still have long long way to go. Their talent is no question, the question is whether they can reach those height.

Dembele is more winger than wide forward btw. Whether he can develop to wide forward is still the question.

I agree, but I struggle to see defences adapting to handle a player of his talent levels. Robben continues to torment defences at 33 and he is the tier below. Ronaldo and Messi are not the only ones to worry about. Hazard and Sanchez level players can quite comfortably keep the wing forward role alive. Bale too.

Really dont see what this guy offers what Martial could not provide if he got the chance.
Getting to the byline and crossing for starters. We have no natural width to stretch the pitch, too many inside forwards that want to crowd the box but give no supply.

Yes, that is an issue. But it's also down to tactics/management/coaching.

A lack of instructions going forward, an unclear offensive structure, no variations of automated passing/movement that have been practiced, etc. In attack, Mou just relies on individual quality to take care of business. There is no distinct identity, there is no fundamental/elementary game plan. It's not a durable method.

I'm convinced that even the current United squad (without any additions whatsoever) under a tactical manager like‚ say, Maurizio Sarri at Napoli (as an example) – would have seriously challenged for the title even in the 16/17 season. For those who've seen Sarri's Napoli know what I'm talking about… and that's with a squad which isn't exactly spectacular, even though they have a few really good players.

Back to Perisic/Martial: most of the time I've seen Martial trying to supply from the left wing (usually with his right foot), his crosses have looked good. I think his passing skills are great and we all know his touch is excellent. Try him on the right wing and instruct him to put in crosses. If he doesn't, bench him. Manage the player. What's the fecking problem… just a general thought, not aimed at you. :)

I agree completely. Mourinho has worked magic for our defensive shape but we need just as much, if not more work on the offensive side. He could almost do with a specialist in Querioz or similar to come in and help get that working a bit more fluently.

For sure. Or a Tuchel. Or a Sarri. Or a Nagelsmann. Or anyone who's tactically astute. Of course, none of this will ever happen. Mou (and managers in general) have their ways (and staff members) of working.

I'm hoping this one was bollocks.

I would rather sign no one this summer than more 'decent to good' players.

I wouldn't say he's been poor, but he's definitely not reproduced the level he was playing at Valencia. Still, I'd still have him down as a very good player who'd improve our midfield for sure, and, at Sevilla and Inter, has still stood out to me as one of the better players. My main hope would be that joining us, and working under José, he'd get back to those levels being in the right environment, but he just doesn't seem to have the right mentality sadly.

You're right, though - those games he played against Barca were amazing. Potential wise, I'm of the opinion that he'd have been on Modric's level as the two of the best CMs of this generation if only he had his head on straight.

Possible alternative, Fiorentina's Federico Bernardeschi, 23 y.o. (1.83m height) Italian forward winger. Left foot and can play in all the attacker positions plus striker. Seems like Mourinho's type of player ~ strong, tall, physically tough in clashes and high energy. Maybe. Impressive football qualities. Interestingly, looks to have similar playstyle with Perisic, minus the better crossing, pace dribbling, space exploitation and technical trick dribbling of the Croatian.

Potential drawbacks: May not help us win titles straightaway. Good age and still not yet prime. Also, LW may not be his best position hence won't solve our left side balance issue. May be limited depending on positions (on LW, he relies more on crossing, but on the centre and right, he tends to dribbles and cutting in). His playstyles seems to be too predictable. Might be a long term problem for Martial.

 Still prefer Perisic, his game is more unpredictable and smoothly effective.

@Reafer If he is a right winger how is he going to be a problem for Martial? Also its not like our right wing is set. We need two proper wingers this window and push Mata to play as a #10.

Huge Juve fan, media from Florenze write that he will sign for them after European U21 Championship. Would be ideal option for our right side, tho.

Or you decided to put an end to a fabricated story.

Its just mind boggling how we are in a transfer saga with a player that is not going to really improve our attacking play, and how lovely he is going to snub a new contract if reports are true. We had problems with our creative play, and Mourinho's solution is a work horse defensive winger

Le PSG peut aujourd'hui espérer le vendre 30 M€ alors qu'il a été acheté 40 M€ en 2012
PSG hope to sell Lucas Moura for €30m, while they bought him for €40m in 2012.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-news-rumours-reds-10694068
Liverpool have received a boost in their bid to sign PSG winger Lucas Moura, with the Ligue 1 side willing to sell the flier for £26million.
That is according to French outlet Le Parisien, who say PSG are prepared to cut their losses on the Brazilian having forked out £35million to land him from Sao Paulo four years ago.
It was reported the Reds made contact with PSG over a potential move for Moura last month with Manchester United also understood to be interested.
Moura scored 19 times last season, laying on 11 more goals for his teammates in 53 appearances in all competitions.

So if you believe Le Parisien (which is not a bad source, not the best either), 25-year-old Lucas Moura will be available for only €30m, while Inter are still demanding €55m for their 28-year-old ivan Perisic!

Am I close..

Inter need 30m by Saturday. So need to sell a player by Friday?

United know this and therefore are making Inter sweat

This saga should be over one way or another by Monday?

Inter might take the fine (which I read is 20 million euros) and then just ask for 50 million for Perisic. I think we are offering about 30 million for him. They do have a player on their hands that wants to move and whose value will not be going up so we are in a good position.

They could of course sell other players. The only player worth more than Perisic is Icardi and they wont sell him. They have Brozovic, Banega and Jovetic available for sale, amongst others who will barely fetch 10 million euros apiece. Everton have been linked with a 20 million euro move for Brozovic, so they will likely have to move him and and at least another player soonish.
