Ivan Perisic

@bucky don't know if you remember our debate about his Wolfsburg days. Watched some of his few games these days on a fast-forward to remind me. Not a big sample but you were right. He was decent to good. Moments of pure brilliance mixed with many moments of bad decision making.

He needs to be on national (world cup/euro) performances where he is a second best player and the biggest threat to other defences. Also, Inter last season. I still believe it could work well if he signs as he thrives in the counter-attacking football and plays much better when he is surrounded with better players as it's the case with the national team. He is also usually good in big games and brings some qualities that we don't have on the wing.

But, yeah, I think your view of him about his time in Wolfsburg is more right.

I do remember and fair play to changing your opinion. How and where did you watch the Wolfsburg games? Is there are site on the interwebs, because I wouldn't mind having the chance to go back to some of the games in the past or did you have them saved? And I agree, he definitely was at his best during those 2 tournaments.

With Morata we were also heavily linked with Belotti, with Lindelof we were also heavily linked with Keane, but with this one there is worringly no alternative link in the ether.

Ill be brutally honest here, besides seeing him playing for Croatia (and that was watching the game itself and not one player) I know very little about him. Wasn't aware of him at all before we were linked with him and the reaction to us seems quite negative so doesn't sound like a hidden gem or anything of the sort. If we don't sign him I'm not going to be gutted but there must be something about him to say that we are after him surely?

More worryingly it does seem that we are not linked with any other player similar to Perisic if we decide not to play Inters fee.

Fernando bernandeshi is a good option. Filipe Anderson suits the Philosophy as well and he will force his move here.

Wouldn't worry about the lack of links tbh the club seems to be ignoring the media more and more as of late. The British press only properly caught onto the Lindelof transfer just before it was done. Other than that they were feeding of scraps from the Portugese papers that will have been fed by Benfica.

Odd their Manager was saying a day or two ago, he doesn't want players who don't want to be there? Suddenly he won't be sold unless someone over pays for him?

Spalleti has spoken to calciomercato

Did you spoke with the board of directors regarding Perisic?

"Inter hasn't won anything for quite some time. That means that we either do something different or else we will keep on winning nothing. Success cant be brought in by just 1 player. Before I have avoided to hide things about Icardi and now you're asking me about Perisic. They are both great players, however they need to be part of a system. I expect all players to give something to the team (he says teammates)

Keep him Spaletti, you need him more than ever.

Have a friend who is a huge Wolfsburg fan and he has some of the games during his time there. Not much, but 7-8 is a decent amount. As I had some free time did watch them pretty much in fast-forward but enough to draw better judgement. It was on his memory stick, will contact you through PM.

It's a little bit underwhelming when you look at it and your judgment did make more sense. It's still interesting because he did have some moments of brilliance in each of the game. Overall, still, not enough for a top club.

No need, thanks. I was wondering if you had a good source on the internet, where I perhaps could have watched different teams. Wolfsburg from that time period isn't something of interest to me. ;)

Perhaps, I just thought it was interesting that with our other targets a clear picture of the options formed, where as with the wing we are not hearing rumours on anyone bar Perisic.

Well, I don't trust what most journalists are reporting, so I don't see it as a clear picture. For example I can't imagine us not being interested in Fabinho, especially since Mourinho gave him his debut.

That's the reason I watched it on fast-forward.

I think Mourinho's goal was to bring in either Willian or Perisic. Since Willian seems keen to stay at Chelsea the focus has moved onto Perisic.

It's just with each we've had a constant set of limks to Morata/Belotti/Lukaku and then Fabinho/Dier/Matic, where as Perisic is the only winger we are being linked with. Like you I am hoping it's a case of us doing something under the radar.

That's pretty disheartening if true, sacrificing what should be a dynamic flair position, for a workhorse winger.

Dynamic flair also needs workrate to be effective. I wished lvg had signed mane that summer Pedro went to Chelsea.

There was a huge outrage when we were linked to mane that summer. Similar to this Perisic saga. I bet all those posters wish he came. Most of the time people dont know what they want or whats best.

They both don't even play the same position.

They are not similar.

Young rarely/never uses his left foot. You can't tell whether Perisic is left or right footed.
Both are touchline huggers who try to beat their man using hesitations/fakes to get an open cross. They are similar.

I don't think the Perisic drama will be settled until the June 30 deadline for Inter raising 30m euros to comply with FFP. If they can't raise money from selling other players, they'll have to raise the money from selling Perisic. If they have to sell Perisic, they lose some leverage in their bargaining position. At that time, they would probably consider an offer of 40m euros (all up front) very generous.

Clearly Jose wants a player in his sort of mould. What are the realistic alternatives to that type of player? I really can't think of many/any.

Lucas Moura, Willian, Douglas Costa, Felipe Anderson. They're all quicker and better dribblers than Perisic, but Felipe Anderson aside, can't match the Croatian's defensive workrate.

Pretty much what I meant by in his mould. By the sounds of it, for better or worse Perisic is a very specific type of winger. Not saying Valencia was the exact same but it would have been difficult to find a winger with his work rate in his pomp. I feel like that's a key part to Jose's vision. Or was at least.

Willian is impossible to sign. Costa isn't better. Anderson I remember when we were linked with him under lvg people being just as indignant.

Jose must rate perisic quite highly if he went to Croatia to discuss terms with him

None of them even have the end product like Perisic.

Willian's a different player and unlikely chelsea will sell. Douglas doesn't score as much, Lucas is another very difficult transfer, felipe anderson is worse on the left than perisic

Dembele, we should pay the extra and put all our chips on him. He'll be better than Neymar and United fans were gutted when we missed out on him. He's exactly what our team is missing.

Perisic would be a decent signing for Southampton, West Brow or at a push Everton, not for Manchester United.

Good post. Love that quote.

Not getting in to who I prefer or who'd be better but Dembele isn't even close to the type of player Perisic is. My question wasn't who'd make a better winger, it was if there were any realistically attainable players in a similar mould.

Both are touchline huggers who try to beat their man using hesitations/fakes to get an open cross. They are similar.
So they are both wingers? That's where the comparison ends. The style of play is different. One has 2 feet and a level of power and skill. The other cuts in on his right 99% of the time.

Care to explain what type of player you think Perisic is from when you've watched him?
