My questions are more rhetorical actually.
To elaborate: it's comedic masterpiece. The humor is actually very intelligent in the sense that it contains subtle(and sometimes not so subtle) social commentary, without necessarily taking a clear stance. It's a bit like South Park, now that I think about it.
But the
real genius, in my opinion, comes from the way the episodes are constructed. Once you get used to the pacing you'll start to get excited when the episode is approaching the end, simply because you're dying to know how they are going to feck things up this time. My favorite episode(
The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention) is a perfect example of this. There's a clear storyline, followed in two seperate groups. The setup is simple but funny. The jokes in the beginning/middle are both funny
and serve as build-up for the end. The last 6 minutes of the episode are pure gold. Pretty much every line is a joke, one greater than the other, and it's all because of great writing and build-up.
Other elements that generally make for great comedy:
- Despicable characters that get progressively worse each season.
- Random, absurd and disgusting humor to balance out the social commentary. It makes for a great combo.
- Hilarious side-characters that often return in later seasons.
- Great running jokes.

All the main characters are funny. Most people have a favorite, myself included, but I can honestly say that they all make me laugh consistently.
