Television It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

I've tried to like this show so many times, probably started watching it about 4 times, just never did it for me.

Several leagues below Arrested Development, The Office, Parks and Rec and Community.

How far have you seen? It doesn't really start to get good before season 2, where it slowly but steadily picks up pace. It gets amazing in season 4 and stays that way all the way up until now(season 12).

When you only watch 1, 2 or even 3 seasons, then you miss out on the two arguably best aspects of the show: the running jokes and the characters road to full insanity. In the first couple of seasons, the gang is pretty damn vanilla compared to what you see in later seasons.

I love all of those shows, but I don't think I could disagree with that statement more.

I'm not even happy with you putting Parks and Rec and Community on the same level as the other two!

The latest episode is so good  The consistency of this show is just unbelievable, I think it has just surpassed The Office (UK) as my all-time favourite.

Same. It tries too hard and Danny DeVito ruins it.

Arrested Development > Sunny > the other 3.

"Okay I stepped in the shit on purpose, happy?!"
"LESS HAPPY!"

 Dennis' incredulous reactions always get me.

That last scene was epic:lol:

but that last scene was dark and it had me rolling...kind of saw it coming, but it was perfectly executed

I saw it coming from a mile away, but I never expected it to be Dee's plan all along:lol:

Dennis is right: that is possibly the darkest thing Dee has done so far.

Dee has made the total transformation. She used to be the normal one, the one that may have actually been a redeemable individual

Now she is as manipulative and as big an asshole as the rest. Mac is almost the "straight" character now that he is totally gay

Darker than faking her baby's death? It's arguably worse because her only real victim there was the IRS, but in terms of dark, that was pretty damn dark.

Saying ni**a and cu*t in the same episode was phenomenal. Ballsy.

And the opening scene of the last episode. The stripper realising he got rock bottom in the middle of banging Sweet Dee. Amazing. Her gradual reaction was hilarious.

Only one barrier left to break down.

Full penetration.

Remembered this scene earlier, cracks me up when Frank runs in and just wolfs down the cat food

Well, that's it for season 12. A solid season, better than season 11 and more consistent than season 10.

But obviously there's the sad news emerging that Glenn Howerton's probably leaving (at least for a while) to star in an NBC comedy with Patton Oswalt, and that Sunny's going on hiatus as a result.

If this is it, then it's been a superb run.

Damn. They're all great characters, but I could see the show continuing without one of them, except for Dennis or Charlie, they're irreplaceable.

I can see the show really suffering without Dennis. I mean, how would they even explain his absence in the show without it feeling horribly forced. I agree Dennis and Charlie are the 2 that are totally irreplaceable.

I think if Howerton's new show is a hit, then this may spell the end of Sunny which is absolutely gutting but like the previous poster said, what a hell of a run. Easily the best comedy series ever for me.

Dam I just thought it was a plot point. I'd rather they go on a hiatus than do it without him. Let's not forget he's a writer and producer on the show as well.

Hoping that pilot with Oswalt fails!

Yeah, I thought they were just going to make some jokes in the first episode next season about how sitcoms replace main characters but then eventually Dennis would return and all would be back to normal again.

Dee's comedy show on Fox was picked up recently for a second season as well

Oh well, hopefully they'll return eventually, might just be in a few years

Haven't seen the last ep but heard about Glenn Howerton. I'd rather they go on hiatus for a few years than try to carry on without one of them.

Wasn't a huge fan of this season. I heard Megan Gantz was one of the writers which explains the kind of Community feeling a lot of the episodes had (Musical, Cricket's one), but I also realise they need to try and keep it fresh.

I don't want any of them to leave. Especially not Glenn!

Just let this be the end of it. I'd rather have this be the last episode than to see the show go on without Dennis, who is the best character by far.

Last episode was great

Charlie saying Dennis was left handed and then the little Ok sign cracked me up. Was a classic Sunny ep.

Decent season all told. Wouldn't be too bad if they took a break and refreshed. They are signed up to two more AFAIK, so better if their hearts are all in it.

Just finished season 1. Thought it was fine but nothing amazing so far. Is that a comparably weak season, or am I likely to find the same for the rest?

The very early seasons are the weakest. Stick with it, and if I remember around season 3 or 4 it really comes on.

I like it from Season 2. The addition of DeVito just gives it what it is missing and some of my favourite episodes are in S2. I always skip season 1 when I binge through it.

I actually gave up on it during season 1 and picked it back up when the hype hit a few years later, re-watching it now I know the characters and all I actually really like season 1.

It gets better in season 2 and then keeps on improving after that. I think it reaches genius levels around 3 or 4.

Season 1 is fine but each episode is just putting the gang in awkward situations, watching them say naughty things in front of normal people and then watching what happens.

Season 2 onwards is fantastic.

The addition of Frank and them having Dee be an actual character improved it tenfold.

The first episode I regard as peak sunny is in series 3, the north korea one, but after that you have pretty much classic episodes 4 out of 5 times for few seasons. Seasons 1 and 2 are fine but when I'm rewatching it I skip them completely. You do need to watch them first time to get to know the characters although they do change quite significantly as the writing gets sharper.
