Television It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Watched the clip where they share a resume the other day

I find it helps that with every watch you notice a reaction or something somebody says in the background that you didn't see before and it becomes just as funny all over again.
After watching the bloopers, I found that most of the time when someone is hiding their face in a scene, it's to avoid ruining a take because they're laughing.

I've seen Mac do it so many times now. Like right at the end here...

No Dennis will be strange. I already miss the golden god.
What? when did that happen?

No way they'll do the show without him, just wouldn't be the same.

I'll put this in case you didn't see the last episode of the last season...

The character left Philly to live with his newly revealed wife and kid. The other actors have hinted that he may only be back for some of the episodes
The bloke who plays Dennis is in another TV show as well.

Charlie said recently he's definitely going to be in it. I think they've quite tactfully kept him out of all the promo stuff though, as the big storyline is whether he's gone forever or not.
or else definitely going to be in it as a sex doll

Mac has always been Dennis' underling. Without Dennis around, Mac flourishes. Dennis returns and gets insanely jealous.

Would be hilarious if he returned and Mac got fat again in the series after. And also incredible dedication.

I don't like watching the trailers for comedy shows so I haven't but I am hyppppee.

I'm not sure I can watch the new series. My Mrs fancies Mac - even fat Mac! If she sees the new series it'll be over for me
 yeah tell her it got cancelled.

Ripped Mac doesn’t make sense, his character is supposed to be pathetically delusional about his shape and fighting ability, so if he’s actually ripped what’s going to be funny about Mac?

They've spent more than a decade telling stories about him being delusional about his body, it's interesting to see what they do with this!

I hope they don't take the Mac being gay stuff too far. It was funnier when they just alluded to it and I get it had to come out at some point but jokes about him using dildos and sex dolls are pretty low hanging fruit in terms of comedy.

Yeah, I thought that with that dildo exercise bike. It’s obvious what they’re trying to get at and it’s not really that funny. What is funny is Mac going to the Rainbow gay club to search for a pot of gold  and coming back covered in glitter.

They need to keep it clever, otherwise it’s just a same-old American TV comedy.

Yeah it's in danger of going down the in your face 'funny' stuff that other comedies do, with that aspect of his character anyway.

I don't really think there is any danger. The latest season showed they have a lot of ideas to work with without being too on the nose. The Gang Turns Black and Making a Murderer episodes especially were very different from what had come before it without cheapening the style of the show. The tone of the season was very diverse.

I'd rather they continued to take the show in new directions. There's only so long certain storylines could keep being used, like the waitress hating Charlie and the jokes about Mac being gay, otherwise it just gets tired. There needs to be conclusions and new arcs.

Decent 1st episode
He's back

The moaners on the UK Sunny Facebook group are calling it the worst episode ever. Bit of an overreaction. It's decent. Not great, but certainly not terrible.

I liked the typical Sunny anti-climax ending, especially after a year or so of speculating if Dennis was going to be back, he's just back.

Reddit has a theory.

you know what, I think it was meant to be this way. I can respect it being a poor episode with the message it sends.

Think about it, the episode was poor overall, none of the jokes are landing. The theme is moving forward, letting go of Dennis, it just doesn't work. Mindy Kaling is not working aswell. So in the very last minutes they kind of give us a "don't worry" sign with Dennis' return.

It's like "what the show could have been", it's messy and lazy, but by the end of the episode everything is back to normal. The waitress dumps Charlie, Dennis returns, the gang is back. They kinda undid the final episode of last season with a clear statement: "this is the way the show works, and it's not gonna change".

Lol. It's a smidge too meta for my tastes but it'd have to have gone a long fecking way to be worse than Frank's Brother.

I think this is right yeah. I found myself thinking it wasn't a great episode until pretty much immediately when Dennis was back, and then the chemistry just worked and everyone's random mutterings made me laugh. With the waitress dumping Charlie too I'm hoping it will revert back to how it was.

Finally watched the new one, honestly thought it was painful and probably the worst one I’ve seen.

Last year the season started in January and came to Netflix in May. So maybe by about January 2019 it'll be on Netflix, at a guess.

4 or 5 months seems to be the norm for non-Netflix originals. Brooklyn 99 takes about the same time too. No idea why FX doesn't get Sunny in the UK though, since it's an FX show.

I think it was purposefully done. Every joke felt forced and unnatural, and when they're in the strip club they realise they're forcing it. When Dennis comes back everything is right again, and it's showing that the show doesn't work without him. I think it was a commentary of how shows try to continue with brand new leads and they end up being shit. Mindy Kaling was always meant to flop.

Not saying they're geniuses for the underlying commentary or that the merits of using a whole episode to show this were worth it but I can see where they were coming from.
