I'm not sure the Intercept reporter intended manipulation, it's not easy to understand that someone would call prisoners supposedly being treated well as vile and abominable.

It's hard for me to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think when you read the translation it becomes very easy from the context to understand what Gvir was saying, and very difficult to conclude that he was referring to rape and torture.

Yes, he feels they were too comfortable before he came in.

I've been doing my best to avoid sources that document their constant atrocities to stave off the depression and yet even sticking to the big mainstream news channels I can't seem to escape the documentation of further evidence of their cruelty and depravity.

yes

see a photo of possibly-palestinian children on twitter and without reading the caption you know what it means

Seems like the Twitter translation isn't accurate either and it's "sailing conditions" and not "abominable". Maybe @Amir could clear that up.

Interesting to see how the United States and their alleged commitment to the two state solution spin this one if such a resolution does pass. Ensure us they're very cross and disappointed with the Israelis, and making their dismay known quite clearly by signing off on more weapons? Or do they finally stop pretending to care about a two state solution and just chaperone the Israeli stance?

Precisely the reason I find most of the chatter around Israeli politics irrelevant to the Palestinian cause.

If Trump wins, I think the US might change their official stance. If Democrats win (unlikely), they will do the other things you mentioned, in addition to protesting Israel's resolution by vetoing a UN resolution that condemns the Israel resolution.

"we continue to work with our partners in israel on a pathway to 2 states ...."
"we have not seen these reports, we continue to work with our partners in israel ... "
"i can't comment on israeli internal matters, we continue to work with our partners in israel ..."
"you will have to ask the israelis for that, we continue to work with them on .... "

But this would be an entirely different ballgame, it would become legislated within Israel via a parliamentary resolution. It's not a video clip which the US can easily and predictably swat away by pulling a Wenger and claiming they haven't seen it. It would be baked into Israeli law, as objective as you like.

For the 1000,000th time: when it comes to the Palestinian question, there is no real opposition in Israel. Some voices here and there, but that’s it.

Even the government that replaced Netanyahu for a year or so was full of right wingers.

I know - this guy was part of that govt in fact. there is or was this feeling that Bibi is a unique insurmountable obstacle, because of his court case, but it's hard to see any democratically elected govt that wouldn't have similar stances.

Absolutely. Some talk about Netanyahu, Ben Gvir and co. as if they are outliers on this issue. They aren’t.

Some reports that Hamas agreed again to the ceasefire proposal and dropped some previous demands.

There was a poll from about March which showed that 30-40% of Americans believed more Israelis than Palestinians have been killed since Oct 7. All these small headlines, wordings, etc add up.

...

they seemed to have agreed to the suicidal "stages" thing- i don't see how israel ever follows that. they have no incentive to stop bombing once enough hostages are out!

"Hamas still wants written guarantees from mediators that Israel will continue to negotiate a permanent cease-fire deal once the first phase goes into effect, the officials said".

Not sure how much a written guarantee is worth here.

How can anyone one be asked to respect such media? I have no respect whatsoever to western media, it is all agenda driven. I have more respect to a taxi driver making up shit about some conspiracy theory than to those nauseating media outlets.

But you've quoted Western media plenty of times in this thread though?

The main problem with Western media here isn't necessarily what they report but how they report it.

The NYT, BBC and others have been complicit in playing with language in an attempt to show a different reality or absolve Israel from responsibility.

Of course I quoted them, because I know how to navigate their news, it's the gullible people who I am worried about.

Also this thread is not just for me. It is for everybody, so to convince you this is not some shit we make up, we have to quote sources you classify as trustworthy.

Exactly. 15 young adults died in an explosion in Gaza, is not the same as an Israeli strike KILLED 15 children.

I saw a presenter on CNN talk about six year old Hind who were killed with her family with 355 bullets, they called her a women, not a child, just to decrease the cruelty of their beloved IDF war crimes and the image of them murdering a 6 years child.

I have zero respect to them. Incredibly biased as shit.

When Western media publish a negative article on Israel, you yourself don't think it is trustworthy? You're just quoting it for the rest of us readers?

This why people like me, a registered Democrat in the U.S., have stopped watching or reading leading networks or newspapers. No more CNN, NY Times, Washington Post or even MSNBC. The moral failure since October 7 has been shocking.

When Western media put Israel in a negative article of course I have to share it, because that means it reached a level even western media can not twist it any further to defend/ justify Israel crimes.

Of course they have to appear as "unbiased" as possible and report a few negative eventson the Israeli side, but take a look on these papers in general, word twisting is essential in their disgusting reporting but that does not affect me, someone who have enough knowledge about the conflict, it affects the neutrals, it's all part of an obvious agenda, not even "stupid conspiracy" anymore.

You want to check the moral values and the bias if western media, look no further, just go look at the day Israel freed 4 hostages and killed 270 Palestanians including 100 child. Go read how they reported, you will understand why I disrespect these publication after 9 months of disgusting biased reporting.

Its truly bizarre though. The idea that all the editorial big cheeses are enforcing a measure to not implicate Israel directly, even in open and shut cases where its obvious they're culpable. Wonder if its external pressure or they themselves are desperately inclined to absolve Israel at every given step.
