Israel - Palestine Discussion | Post Respectfully | Discuss more, tweet less

the only poster left from the other side with whom one could have a decent, level-headed discussion.
Yeah.
@Amir weren't on no Elon Levy propaganda BS from what I could see but haven't checked much of his previous posts.
Would have been good to hear his reasoning as to why Israel are acting the way they are as well as the way they view a resolution to all this.

Oh definitely, we need to keep talking about it and denouncing as much as possible. They will achieve their goal, but at least with as much shame as possible. Not that they care though
It isn't set in stone yet but you're probably right, they'll get away with it. No doubt in a few years we'll be called antisemites for keeping the story alive.

You should check out his posts in this thread. He didn't come across as hasbara to me, he came across as someone desperately clinging to the illusion that Israel is a decent place, fighting the good fight. Towards the end I think he was looking for a way out of the thread because it was dawning on him just how despicable a regime it is that he was defending.

Apologies if I've got any of this wrong but I do think he was genuine.

I'm sorry you, and others, feel that way. He was looking for a way out and he found one. It's called running away instead of facing up. Let's not get all precious here. I didn't bully him, if I did report me.

You might have been taken in with his next level hasbara, but I'm not. Guess what, I.M.H.O. See that's how it works, it's imho.
I think he was genuine but it's frustrating trying to discuss anything with supporters of Israel.

No, I did not look for a way out. Why would I need one? I could just stop posting without telling anyone. It's just an internet forum.

But difficult discussions are one thing. Personal snides by people who judge me even though they don't know me is another thing altogether. I just don't need it.

I have been very critical of Israel and the Israeli govenment - here as well - in recent years and also in recent months and weeks. I'm far from being an Israel supporter, but I feel that unless I turn 100% against it, it won't be enough for some people here - who tend to ignore my criticism of Israel and what it's being doing and focus on all the rest as if it's the only thing that represents me and my views.

I'm trying to explain people what Israelis - in general - think or feel, but I'm being rebuke by people who insist I am wrong because they read differently on a Twitter post. They think I'm brainwashed by Israeli media, when the only outlet I regularly read is Haaretz - which is about as left as can be. It's all a little ridiculous that people here also try to claim they know me and what I think better than I do, but I'm still happy to try and enrich people by trying to give them some sort of inside view that no longer exists here. But if I'm gonna be personally attacked and portayed as something that I'm not, then you are welcome to continue to agree with one each other and focus on Twitter posts and saying how evil Israel and Israelis are.

Cool Amir. For the sake of everyone here I will not comment about you or your posts or reply to/mention you again.

@Dumbstar Congrats on your last braindead take and ad hominem attack. You successfully drove off the only poster left from the other side with whom one could have a decent, level-headed discussion. Of all the trees you could've barked up @Amir definitely was the wrong one, and that's the only contribution you've ever brought to the table in this thread.

I'd take one of his posts over tens of yours.
Agree that he shouldn't be sniped at, but @Amir is essentially a liberal zionist.

He may have some sympathy for the Palestinians, but fundamentally, his and his people's right, security and exclusivity comes first, and if that means the removal of Palestinians from their land then so be it. He has made arguments for ethnic cleansing. And whilst he is a a lot more palatable than the likes of Fearless, gfactor, GiggsyPO, and that other one, if Israel was filled with people only like him the status quo wouldn't fundamentally change. The boot on the neck of the Palestinians is what they want.

I'm sure there were Germans sympathetic to Jews in Nazi Germany.
I'm sure there were white Europeans sympathetic to black Africans in the slave trade.
I'm sure there were white South Africans sympathetic to black South Africans under apartheid.

Sympathy doesn't change anything.

Let the man speak his mind, there's so much to learn from him, even if one doesn't agree with him and I personally happen to, on many points.

His insight is invaluable and helps us outsiders to understand what's truly happening inside the Israeli society and that's something none of us can provide. His grievances are worth listening to, no matter how much you might dislike them.

Apparently it's based on an intelligence estimate that suggests the viability of Netanyahu's government is dubious and Biden's growing criticism of Netanyahu. Biden's not actively trying to overthrow Bibi in some sort of coup, but he and the administration are intent on increasing pressure on Netanyahu. The headline is just hyperbole from a right wing paper though.

The meeting @Raoul mentioned with Benny Gantz and general criticism from Biden suggest that the administration would much rather deal with a less insane government. Obviously Netanyahu's prolonging the war to stay in power since he would lose any election in the near future.

Again, Biden is not mad, biden didn't stop speaking with netanyahu, Biden will do absolutely nothing that is not support israel. All this news/tweets are electoral propaganda to make look like Biden is not absolutely in to the genocide and is critic with what is israel is doing.

Is just a bunch of lines

Sorry, I did say please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for doing so.

Yeah it's nothing to do with stopping the genocide, the spin is now focused on post war normalisation. They'll pin all the atrocities on Netanyahu and then pretend Israel is now under moderate leadership. Its so predictable that i imagine Netanyahu is probably onboard with that plan.

Different in literally every way.

No it's not.

- Israel associated the red pin badge with the bloodied hands of terror group responsible for the Ramallah lynchings.
- Palestinian supporters associated the M&S (and Zara) adverts with hatred towards the Palestinian cause.

The former was considered to be "pathetic".

It is no longer only Hamas or Israel controlled information that comes out of Gaza. Many western doctors and other volunteers with impeccable reputations are now returning home and telling horrifying stories on big news networks about what they have seen in Gaza with their own eyes. I hope pressure will mount for this madness to end.

100%

On the optimistic side of things and as someone who's been invested in the issue from the beginning, I do have to say that this has made a lot of people wake up to the cold hard facts of Israeli aggression. As someone living in the UK it's quite incredible how the general population views this conflict as compared to even 5 years ago and I'm sure it's the same in the rest of the Western hemisphere.

Hopefully it's not too late and international pressure can force a 2 state solution.
He directly said he was ok with palestinian civilians being killed by the thousands.

No, he was looking for a way out of the thread because he is exasperated. It gets tiring putting a point across and then immediately getting attacked and put down by the pack of hyenas in here.

Yeah when people are ok with terrible things that tends to happen.

It's a damn shame that our most reasonable Israel supporter left and the more extreme ones stayed.
