Disgusting behavior. Israel will never start to behave until the West puts pressure on them, and places conditions on the massive amount of military support they are being given. It's just not going to happen, when everyone in power in the west is so cowardly.
They're going to make too much money from infrastructure projects to 'rebuild' Gaza.

And a highly traumatised population with not much hope will be ripe for narcotic consumption.

Look on the bright side. There's a fortune to be made here!

Do you have any numbers that support the notion that Gaza is in any way financially profitable for the West?

Not only western weapon companies profit from this bombing (the amount of boms being dropped is huge) but also the testing of new weapons making Gaza a laboratory is well known fact for weapons manufacturers. It is inhumane and disgusting.

Is Israel still "defending" itself??
If by defending themselves they plan for no Palestinians to remain in Gaza, then the plan's working. They've learned there's no repercussion to slaughtering 5000 women and children, so they might as well complete the course. The US, UK and various allies have determined that a ceasefire only benefits Hamas, so its in the world's interest that Gaza is turned into the world's largest graveyard. Hopefully that finally forces the remaining Gazans to all scupper to the Sinai desert, so the Israelis can swoop in and build something (and to quote Ben Shapiro, Israelis build things, Arabs just blow them up). And once that's done, the Israelis can go full speed ahead with empowering settlers to ethnically cleanse the West Bank too. Then and only then we'll have peace and stability for the region. The Palestinians started this whole conflict on October 7th, so the Israelis will finish it, backed by the benevolent might of the US and various allies. So there's hope.

Was discussing the situation with someone, where he was firmly in the "Israel is defending itself and showing restraint, Hamas and Fatah are terror orgs and have broad support among Palestinians" camp. At one point he called Palestinians a "horrible people", and when I called out that rasist statement he called me a Jew hater in return.

Great bit of defending from them it has to be said.

How did you guys finish the discussion?

That was the end of anything resembling a grown-up debate. He was so incensed at the suggestion that he said something racist, and I was to busy trying to find out what I'd said that lead to him calling me a jew hater.

Interesting post. I saw this video recently and you get to see how different people from different backgrounds and ages have justified and internalized this

Israel's propaganda machine is certainly very impressive. They've managed to convince the world they're the calm, civilised, reasonable party in this conflict while the Palestinians are nothing more than brutal, barbaric animals that can never be reasoned with.

It's honestly chilling how calmly and casually they talk about obliterating and wiping Palestine off the face of the earth. Repulsive.

Listen to their officials, they are not trying to hide, this example above is one of tens of videos of officials showing their true faces. But the problem is not them, because we already know their true colours.

The problem is the international community, because they have the power to stop this madness, but their response is not good enough. When someone like the ambassador above talk like that, he should be challenged on spot and aggressively, but it is obvious, people are afraid to do so, because they will get canceled.

The irony of the Israeli UN ambassadors theatrically wearing yellow Stars of David to invoke the memory of the Holocaust, while they engage in calling 2.5 million people enemies and justifying killing 50,000 of them - it's of the fecking charts.

I don't even know why I'm posting in this thread. Everything is so incredibly dark and depressing, I don't think anything knew will come to light that will really move my position, and Israel will surely continue to do exactly what they want with impunity as the west looks on from the sidelines. I can't imagine where we will be in a month from now, but it can only get worse - both in Gaza and elsewhere.

Someone earlier posed the question about whether we are any better as a species now than in previous centuries, and I'm honestly not sure. There may be less war and atrocities going on overall, but it's also clear that whenever there is a dispute over resources, a dispute over land, racial/religious tensions, or some longheld grudge, people will always be capable of incredible barbarism by reducing their opponents to something less than people.

This is the biggest problem and not just in this conflict , the media which is supposed to be the people's extended arm (at least in democracies), is acting on behalf of their government instead, pushing political agendas, not asking questions or only asking the questions that push a certain viewpoint.

Trouble is, not applying international law consistently just further emboldens the AS stereotypes that the Jewish lobby has this soft influence over global power structures.

You know when 9/11 happened and we were all shocked and wondered how someone could do this? To this day, as a Muslim, I can't believe some people thought it was ok to get into planes and crash them into buildings killing themselves and killing people who were innocent

Watching this killing going on in Gaza currently and the stances of various governments would anyone be really that surprised if a kid growing up there, with no ties to Hamas etc grew up to be a terrorist?

Its inevitable. You cannot bomb people into accepting occupation. We tried it in Iraq, we tried it for 20 years in Afghanistan (and the USSR did for a decade before that). The taliban are back in control and Iraq is turfing out the US with the same warlord types in charge.

All bombs do is create the next generation of terrorists. Or do people really think a 14 year old that is the only survivor of their family is going to grow up and work on an olive farm?

Once everyone is wiped out and Israel says their blood thirst has somewhat subsided for now, US will step in and say they have successfully negotiated a ceasefire.

The West has no incentive to do this. It is not like their citizens are on the streets and forcing their govt and elected representatives to answer for the barbarism. It is only a minority on the internet expressing shock and horror. And some minor street protests that they can handle.
They know from experience that people will soon forget and move to other news.
On the flip side, siding with the lobbyists helps them personally or otherwise. Not to mention the number of weapons they can sell to Israel.

One of the issues is "the West" isn't an actual thing. Its an invented construct used primarily by non-Europeans to refer to Europe and the US or NATO. Each country therein has different geopolitical priorities when it comes to nations in the middle east, which obviously includes Israel.

The West comes from the Orient-Occident dichotomy which isn't a term primarily used nor invented by non-Europeans. Occident is and has been used for centuries by Europeans to describe themselves and they used Orients to described cultures that are on the eastern side of Eurasia.

And in the context of geopolitics every single term is an invented construct.
