Is Gareth Southgate a shiite England manager?

A) Kane had already scored one, why would you stop him taking a second?

B) none of those take the job, so again, who replaces him?
A) a fair argument and im sure the opposite of mine would have been made had his replacements missed.

But you got to admit taking a second penalty against a keeper who knows you so well isn't the best idea, especially under that pressure and I also think there's a higher chance failure on the second pen but I don't have the stats to prove it.

B) they haven't been asked so how do you know?
There are other options as well like conte if his season goes south who has already taken an international job with decent results and the likes of Eddie howe.
You will surely find better managers if you look hard enough, he isn't exactly the cream of the crop our lad Gareth.

He’s basically Ole. Fantastic vibes, at their peak can be a match for anyone, but ultimately destined to come up short. Not to say that I think the likes of Deschamps are any better. International football is pot luck at times.

I'm not the person being asked but to me it's obvious - Poch or Tuchel.

Tuchel is not allowed back in the country with no job, so he'd jump at the chance.

If it's about which British manager, then there's no one because the FA just waited too long and both Potter and Howe are gone (although Potter might be back on the market soon...)
Not sure if realistic but poch and tuchel aren't even employed right now. As long as we can get past their nationalities.

Even brenton would do a better job IMO. At least he isn't a defensive cowardly manager.

Potter and Howe as well if we went with the top English managers in the game right now.

OGS as a darkhorse.
Poch and Tuchel there’s absolutely no chance. Potter and Howe both have jobs so also ruled out.

Brendan is a hilarious shout, just no.

We literally allowed them back into the game by not making changes to kill the game off when on top.
Power of hindsight is everything, France scored against the run of play. I take what you're saying, but leaving a team who looked comfortable wasn't a huge crime. His lack of subs wasn't why France scored (was a great ball and Maguire maybe culpable).

And your statement is based on what exactly? Poch for sure is settled in England while Tuchel wanted to stay but was kicked out by the C*servatives' immigration rules

Look, we’ve had world class managers before. Just ask Sven. Or Capello.

Oh wait, Gareth has outperformed all of them.

Go back through the match thread and see how many of us were calling for Rashford on at the 60th minute

We were on top though, what would have been the point in changing something that was working?

We basically matched it not marginally outplayed one of the best sides in the tournament and went out because of a defensive lapse and a missed penalty. Anybody using this as some definitive proof that Southgate is a fraud needs to give their head a shake.

Here's the thing. When england were on top in that spell, you just KNEW france were going to score.

He has had enough time time with a huge talent pool. Done some good work but not enough to get England over the line. It’s time for a change.

We never once looked like we could win the game... we were always playing catch up.

Don’t agree with that at all. From 1-1 to when France scored you had multiple chances that could have been a different story on another day.

2 minutes of ET for Grealish, 5 minutes normal time for Rashford.

Takes off Saka who is single handedly terrorizing the entire French team to get "his guys" on the pitch who have been shite all tournament.

Just another mediocre plodder manager who needs star players to clutch it for him, cant break out of playing the same players in the same formations despite an enormous talent pool.

What do you think about trying to get Tuchel? He seems to reach the final of every cup.

It was. France looked rocked when we came out and started fast in the second half, we scored and had all the momentum but ultimately didn't use it, it ran out and they scored. Southgate wasted that period of the game by being too cautious and then bafflngly brought Sterling on for Foden when 2-1 down.

2022 Nations League apart, England have been very decent overall under Southgate.
Let's not forget France are WC title holder, this tournament cannot be considered a failure imho.

He deserves to stay until next EURO and then I'd renew his contract only if he does really well in Germany
With 5 of their starting players side-lined. If England were ever going to bet a top team on foreign soil in a play off round this was the time.

His subs were terrible.
This. He cannot make subsistutions to save his life. Saka had been troubling the French all game long and he takes his out. And has there ever been a more meaningless player than Mason fecking Mount?
Take a bow and leave Southgate. England has a real good generation of players and they're wasted on him.

For feck's sake. That was the best game of this WC, and an absolutely first rate performance by England, whom no one could accuse of playing with excessive caution.

Terrible subs. Should have brought on Rashford sooner. Sterling was never going to make a difference.

Rashford didn't actually do much when he came on though. I don't think there's much reason to believe we'd have been considerably better with Rashford on earlier.

This. So poor. Urgh. Just annoying of what could've been with a more proactive manager.

Not a fan of his but I think England was good today

He left it too long and France grew in confidence after a ropey start and went back in front obviously.

Tuchel is an odd one.... is he gonna utilise the talent Southgate gets stick for not utilising? I mean he'd likely be better, but he'd also come with higher expectations naturally. Zidane or Poch would seem more natural fits. (from an foreign perspective).

I think the timing will natural align and Howe will become available in 2024 when Newcastle start to get truly demanding. So give him one more run.

I’m just not dumb enough to think they’ll take the job when they can sit on a beach and wait for a club to come knocking. International management is basically semi retirement that they won’t take.

So you're literally saying that the bookies are wrong

interesting take.
