I'd be very tempted to play Rahane at number 3 or at least 4. He's shown more patience and form than the incumbents.
They'll win tests I'd say. Even if we fix our batting, our bowling is utterly toothless.Anderson and Jadeja found not guilty. England will win the series now.

Not so sure about that, an excellent performance though the last test was, all the problems we've had in the past year haven't suddenly gone away in one match.
Still, the bowling attack would have been very toothless without Anderson. Now we can ignore this problem till when he retires probably next year. Hopefully Woakes keeps his place, on another day he'd have got a few wickets and generally bowled well, whilst Stokes should be recalled and kept in the team instead of Jordan. Even though his batting has gone terrible, Stokes is a bigger wicket threat than our other bowlers beyond Broad and Anderson and that alone should have him in the team. Plunkett is not a long term option, and neither is he so good he demands a place in the side hence we should look to develop Stokes and keep faith with him.
Good stuff. Always seemed massively overblown.Anderson and Jadeja found not guilty. England will win the series now.
Why so soon?
Anderson and Jadeja found not guilty. England will win the series now.
Is there any footage of the incident which caused all this?
Funny that in many other cases, people have been found guilty and punished based on just testimonies...Nope.. the cameras were there but they weren't working at that time..
Well he'll be 33 next year, England put a lot of workload on him too. He'll also overtake Botham's record for most wickets sometime in the next year (and reach 400 test wickets). Not too mention it's also the world cup next year.
Maybe he'll stay on, but the Ashes next summer strikes me as a natural end to his England career, particularly if England win the series. I'm not sure how motivated he'll be to stay on beyond that given he'll have achieved everything he's realistically going to achieve for England by next summer.
No reason for them to be on.Nope.. the cameras were there but they weren't working at that time..
Usually spins. Panesar/Swann generally did a good chunk of the work.Anderson's stats on SSN.
Best innings for England at OT: 4-118
That's surprised me. I'd have thought he'd have had far better figures than that in at least one of his 4 tests there. Has never failed to take a wicket in an innings though, so that's a plus.

They turned the whole square round 90 degrees. It's been slower than it used to be.How has been OT pitch's nature recently? It was relaid as well few years back, right?

Why would you need them on during a test match? They're not for spying on the players. What?
What's the point of having security cameras there, if they aren't on, during the test match.

My assumption would be that this isn't a security camera, given there is no need for one, and that it's there for media use when needed. The only references to it being a security camera come from the Indian press. Notts just said "yes there's a camera, no it wasn't in use" which backs that up.
You can keep fantastising about conspiracy if you want but there isn't any basis for it.

OT is a quick pitch, certainly for the first couple of days of any game. Days 3 and 4 the track does become far more conducive of spin though, but still retains it's pace. Day 5 is a spinners paradise. It's a big toss to win. I wouldn't want to batting on the last day chasing 250+.Usually spins. Panesar/Swann generally did a good chunk of the work.
While all eyes are on England's third Test against India at Southampton, Matt Merchant is making sure Alistair Cook's men have the perfect pitch for the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford.
Lancashire's head groundsman has today started to put the final preparations to the wicket which will be used for the Test, which starts on August 7.
After Nottinghamshire were criticised for the poor wicket they produced for the opening match of the series at Trent Bridge, the pressure is on Merchant.
And although he is keeping it under wraps for now, the 40-year-old is happy with the way things are going.
"Hopefully it will have some pace, bounce and carry and a little bit of turn thrown in there. That is what this ground is known for," he said.
"You want an entertaining pitch but, financially for the club, we would like it to go the full five days too.
"It is a fine balance. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you don't as we have already seen at Trent Bridge earlier in the series.
"There is always a lot of emphasis about the pitch for any Test and that does put the pressure on, but at the moment I am quiet relaxed about how things are going."
Merchant and his team haven't been helped by the recent heatwave as they battle to ensure the square is protected from the sun.
"We have been giving it bags and bags of water recently because of the hot weather we have had," he explained.
"Three weeks ago we cut it down, overseeded it and since then it has had some TLC and bags of water. I can't stress how much water we have had to use on the square.
"Baking sun can have an effect on the pitch. Rather than being quick and bouncy, it will be as dead as a dodo, so we need to be careful."
Merchant was praised last year after producing an Ashes pitch that, if the weather hadn't intervened, would have seen the game head into the last session with all three results still possible.

There is. There's what the people who own the cameras have said which differs from the words used by people whose job it is to make stories out of nothing.Aye sure and you can keep making assumptions but there's isn't any basis to it.
No conspiracy but the insistence that there was no reason for cameras to be on is extremely funny.

I'd agree with that (see?).Anyway glad this is over. Dhoni got emotional in the pre match conference before the third test, we should hopefully move on from this.
England should rest broad now that Anderson is playing. He looked absolutely tired.

You're much more fun than anyone else in cricket threads. We're far too polite too each other in here, normally.

FAO Indians - does Dhoni still have a Bollywood-like status, like he did a few years ago? I think he was bigger than Brahma himself at one point.
Was it after the one day world cup that he said he was going to quit Test cricket in a year or so?? Wonder if he still has those plans..Not as popular with the general public as he was back then.
His popularity peaked after WC 2011, but his stock took a downfall after 8-0. I love him in the One Days mind. No better finisher than him right now.

I agree on England performance being very good. I can't say if same level of performance would have been enough to win against SA or Australia, but this kind of spirited performance would have meant a close match against even the best team.
Botham called the whitewash before a ball had been bowled, even my brother did. I hate going down there. Look at all the English dick swinging after the 05 Ashes win at home, we went down there the next winter and got whitewashed again. The only time I can remember us doing well down there in modern times was the series Cook scored a glut of runs a few years back. Doubt The Aussies would beat us 5-0 in England...in fact I doubt they'd even win the series tbh. I don't see the relevance in your statement tbh.
Gambhir/Rohit, Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Dhoni, Ashwin, Jadeja, Ishant(if fit)/Aaron, Pankaj and Bhuvi should be our team for next match. Anything else would be stupidity.
You are not being critical about our bowling simply because we've gotten used to them being shit. They don't rush the batsmen, except on Ishant's good days and that is needed on pitches like this. Likes of Australia wouldn't have let England score 350+. Or drop catches like we do. They put relentless pressure.
Ummm, I was talking about England.
As far as India is concerned, Yes our bowling was bad and they could have done more but as I have said before, every time we can't put whole blame on bowlers. Yes you don't win a test if you don't take 20 wickets but it is as much true that you lose a test only if you lose 20 wickets and India has lost considerably more tests than drawing. If India had scored say 450 in first innings, this match could have been draw. England's bowling was good and spirited but it wasn't as relentless as we have seen Australia bowl when there is no breathing space.
He was never that popular really. All the top Indian players get treated like proper "stars" so he's definitely been one of them. But I wouldn't say he gets the deity treatment as say Tendulkar has. Then, again, noone really has.FAO Indians - does Dhoni still have a Bollywood-like status, like he did a few years ago? I think he was bigger than Brahma himself at one point.
