India's tour of England

A team is out of the match when your bowling concedes 500+ in the first innings.

Making 450 in the first innings is a lot tougher with scoreboard pressure, than without.

See, that way there is pressure on everyone..batsman, bowler etc.. that can't be excuse. Team still reached 330 odd. Lots of batsmen in first inning got out to not showing proper application. These batsmen have chased 350 odd multiple times in one day so talent is there, the application part is missing. Pressure or whatever, that needs to be done. Yes, it is no excuse for bowlers to keep conceding 500+ as it means you can only draw the match at best most of the times but my point is batsmen were equally responsible for losing. Some more application with bat and India would have maintained 1-0 lead.

I can't see Finn jumping above Stokes in the pecking order when he hasn't been included in any squads since the Ashes. Is he even ready to come back in? I haven't actually seen him this season but the last thing we need to be doing is rushing him back needlessly. Hopefully he'll have an Anderson like resurgence after England's bowling coaches did their best to ruin him, but its important he sorts himself out properly before being thrown into the spotlight again.

He's the third highest wicket taker in county cricket this season. I think Anderson, Broad and Finn will be the main bowling attack looking ahead with the rest of the bowlers fighting for that 4th spot.

I don't think they rate Stokes as a bowler enough to have him in the team when he doesn't bat well enough.

Ashwin and Aaron in for the fourth test. According to cricinfo, they'll probably drop Dhawan and promote Pujara as an opener. Rohit will be retained and pankaj Singh will be dropped.

In other news sanju Samson is called in for ODI squad. Great news.

This Anderson affair is becoming farcical. Dhoni's making himself look really silly now, still crying about it.

Didn't see this moral righteousness when Sreesanth, Kohli, Harbhajan acted like wankers under him.

Yeah we should move on even though Anderson is a full fledged wanker.

Really looking forward to this test, couldn't be better poised... 1-1 and coming just after a line was finally drawn under the Anderson - Jadeja saga. Both sides will be fired up, Cricinfo reporting light drizzle but confident of starting close to, if not on time. Overhead conditions apparently looking bowler friendly, but the pitch described as a bat first one!

Weather doesn't look good going forward, hence odds of 4/5 for the draw.

i really like India's lineup. Nice to see the forgotten man Gambhir back. Ashwin should have been picked since the first test. Nice balance to the team.

Am i the only one here who thinks Jordan is seriously over-rated?? He is a one-day, 20/20 player. He is definitely not a test match player. The selectors are clueless. GET FINN BACK IN THE TEAM. I like Woakes, he has real potential. I don't rate Robson either. Prior's career is most likely over because Butler looks very promising. Ali looks like a proper player too.

Yea. India has a good balanced team. If it turns a bit, that's going to be a good bowling attack. Needs Jadeja to buckle down, but seemingly he's encouraged by Dhoni to bat like a lunatic.

Jordan seems ordinary in tests, yes, but the selectors aren't clueless imo.. they got some important decisions correct. Ballance at 3, Moeen Ali, Stokes and Woakes all look extremely promising. That's a lot of really promising players England have got in place in the matter of 2 series.

and Gambhir goes.

Really not a fan of this selection. Would prefer anyone over Gambhir. Proven time and again he's shit away.

Good start. We need to build on this now.

Double figures motherfeckers!!

Wtf

Edit: India won the toss?!

You not first I've seen complain about him, whats the deal. He averages 44 over 54 test matches and thats still not good enough. Just read your post properly, "away" you say.

If you slice it by countries scored in, you'll see good numbers in SA and NZ. NZ came on the flattest pitches we've seen in NZ -- average scores for the series were really high. He played an excellent knock in Napier to save us the match, but the pitch was flat and it was runs from temperament and not technique.

SA he made good runs in 1 test on a flat deck and good runs in 1 test when trying to save teh match -- his one good innings away.

If you watch videos of him playing in Aus, Eng or any other pitch/conditions where there's help for the bowlers, you will see he is very weak outside off. He stabs at the ball instead of leaving it and plays with an open face to gully a lot. Always nicks it there.

Just not a test quality batsman.

Unless he's sorted out his weakness outside off -- first innings dismissal seems to indicate otherwise, but maybe he'll do better 2nd time.

surely that applies to most of the Indian batsmen? If you take away the runs they get on flat pitches in India, then surely the averages drop significantly? Apart from legends like Sachin/Dravid ofcourse. Same with most sub-continent teams like Sri Lanka, Pakistan too.

Nope.. Likes of Vijay, Pujara and Rahane have gotten some excellent 'tough' runs. Some would tell you Kohli's done that but I'd not agree with that apart from 1 innings.

Pujara's done awfully here and in NZ but in NZ he got some really good deliveries and in England he's just been shit.

It is too early to say anything of course, but those 3 in particular look very promising, imo.
