India's tour of England

He was awful away in India in his first test series as captain and in the Ashes last summer was he? Not much he could have done down under when the whole team was shambolic either. You sound like Piers Morgan.

Comparing David Moyes to Alistair Cook? Okay then mate
I'm not comparing the men, I'm comparing the situations. One good result doesn't make up for the consistent poor results and distinct lack of pro activity in his captaincy.

Question to fellow Indian fans: is it just me or has anyone else felt a distinct lack of enthusiasm towards this series? I mean I used to really follow all overseas test tours with interest, even when we've got no hope of doing well. This time around though, I just can't be bothered.

It's really stupid to start a match on a Sunday. Haven't seen a single ball so far in the game and only watching today because of the strike here.

Been following it keenly actually and I rarely follow cricket these days. This is a fresh new generation for us so it was interesting to watch what they can do in an away series.

Ya, I have lost interest after the previous generation retired and don't feel any attachment with current Indian team. Watching or following the game depends on mood. Otherwise I just check scores intermittently. Had forgotten that there was match on first day of the series!

I'm quite the opposite.

I like this team, perhaps not as talented as the previous Indian teams but they've a fighting spirit.

Just watch Sir Jadeja score a double hundred to win it for India! :wenger:

Highest paid cricketer in the world and the 22nd highest paid athlete and the captain of the team. Who cares about winning matches for the country when you are getting 30m every year for doing that, eh MS!

Just as long as you don't burn his effigy in the street this evening. :smirk:

General Indian public doesn't care much about test series or losses in tests. It is generally World Cup where failure leads to those kind of stuffs.

That was diabolical from Jadeja but I'm not sure anyone predicted Moeen Ali could be this effective. And another!

It's pretty obvious our batsmen have taken him for granted and looked to play recklessly against him. He hasn't really looked threatening but our batsmen seem to think they just have to play out Anderson and Broad and attack Ali with no fear and time and again fall in the trap.

Yep.

That's definitely true for his first few dismissals this series but I think most of your batsmen have now realised he's a bit better than they thought and they're still struggling against him.

Jadeja is not a test allrounder or even a test batsman by any stretch of imagination. It is impossible to expect him to play out 200 balls in a game. Probably the best India can have a Ashwin is not effective in away series either.
That said, Bhuvi has shown better application at times in this series and there are no excuses for this play by Indian batsmen. Indian team just need to look at South Africans. So many of their attacking batsmen curbed their natural instincts to not let team lose last game. It was incredible and they have done it thrice recently.

Jadeja and Dhawan will go out next game I think for Ashwin and Gambhir. Sir Rohit will stay I guess.

England have many left handers. I would play Ashwin.

Ya. Given the amount of sun and nature of pitches, Ashwin can be effective.
England people...will it be raining in Manchester next week? :wenger:

Finding it hard to know how much to make of that match. I can't help but think that India were worse than England were good.

Good to see Moeen getting a first five for, anyway, and the runs for Cook help a lot.

Credit where credit is due, Cook lead by example in this test and got everything right. I genuinely hope he can kick on from here and he has finally turned a corner and I think his runs gave the rest of the team confidence to go out and get runs as well. It's not over by any means, but I do hope he can consolidate what he did here and move on from it.

Similar can be said about India's Lord's win. So, credit to England for winning so handsomely after Lord's game.

Agreed. England have missed his runs more than anything else of late. He needs to make sure he kicks on from here.

Lot depends on Anderson's availability for remainder of series on how it progresses from here. What is the word in England? Will he be banned?

I think he will be. The fact they weren't lenient with Jadeja makes me think they won't be lenient with Anderson, either.

both of these teams would get absolutely thrashed by Saffers or Aussies but still it's been a good test match. Anderson finally looked at his usual best and that was the main difference IMO. I still don't rate Moeen Ali as a bowler but he did well. England were a better side by a margin, Cook deserves all the credit for his innings after so much criticism. Can't help but be pleased about him.

Gambhir and Ashwin to come in and Dhawan and Rohit to go out. I'd even drop Shami and retain Pankaj Singh as Shami has been quite frankly pathetic so far,
