India's tour of England

What the hell are they doing out there? Run rate of 2.3 from the last 10 overs. It's like they're batting out for a draw. We have some sort of aversion to batting above 3 runs an over.

Very good from Bell. Hope he keeps it going as he could get this run rate looking rather better.

35 overs left. Bat 20 and declare at 550 or plough on for 600+. I'd favour the latter to set India 400+ to avoid the follow on.

England might go for former. Batting 13-14 overs after being on field for almost 2 days is bit difficult and often results in wickets even on good batting pitches. To get to 600, England will need to go with 6+ runs an over as they will be looking to give at least half an hour to India to bat today.

Have to have a bowl at them tonight, let Bell get his 150 and maybe Buttler his 50 if he's close enough, then go for it. The timing of that should work out.

Tbf to him Woakes does look like he's bowling quicker. Guess there's a difference running in hard knowing you're only getting 1 over and bowling a spell though.

Woakes was getting some serious carry.

We're in deep shit but I am still hopeful we can eke out a draw.

Something needs to be done about slip fielding. Really good fielders but concentration is deserting them.

I suppose at least the changes for next test are self evident -- even if there are going to be more than a few.

Dhawan out for Gambhir, Ashwin for Jadeja, Aaron maybe for Shami. Don't like the idea of going back to Gambhir though.

Moeen could be in trouble, over wearing wristbands saying "Free Palestine" and "Save Gaza".

He's quite clearly broken the rules. Whether or not the ICC is really going to want to punish him, I am less sure, given I imagine large portions of the cricket loving world would be very sympathetic to the cause.

@KM

Thoughts on Vijay? I know you actually watch the matches, so wondering what you think.

Finding this really weird that people are talking like this is a new thing -- he played this well against SA but got the 3 runs he missed out on in Durban.

And he played other good innings even though it was 30 odd or so.

Had no idea Woakes was this good at bowling.

I saw him bowl in the VB series in the Ashes series time before last and thought he was just an ordinary seamer.

Genuine all rounder.

Lack of DRS strikes again, England seemed convinced they got Rahane out off the glove.

It's a joke that India were even given the option of whether to use it. Should either be made compulsory by the ICC or up to the home side at their grounds.
It makes taking dodgy wickets against them extra satisfying, but also very annoying when it goes against us!

Both Kohli and Rahane look a little edgy.

Avoiding the follow on looks a long way away.

Extraordinarily brainless dismissal. I feel like he just threw away the match. Not been this pissed off with a dismissal in awhile.

Rahul Dravid was really controlling himself during commentary from abusing Rohit

He could have easily got a big score here had he used brain a little.

Missed most of the session. Saw Sharma showing why he's not an automatic pick, though...

Was Woakes any good? I'm assuming Jordan wasn't...

Rohit fecking Sharma.

Brainless.

Woakes looks good. Has good pace as well. Jordan's run up looks uneasy, not a fast bowler kind. Thought it yesterday too and today commentators on Star network were discussing it. Stokes seems a better bowler.

If there was an IQ test, our batsmen wouldn't be coming out on top.

How many wickets to Moeen Ali? Ridiculous

Ridiculous batting. Pathetic.

Our batsmen have made it a habit to give wickets to opposition part time spinners in recent years.

It's not even a foolish shot. It had to be hit. It's just astonishingly poor execution. Must've just lost concentration.

EDIT - Short sentences. They are cool.

Yeah. You can say that difference between Rohit and Rahane was that, Rohit's was more foolish and unnecessary shot, especially with 5 minutes to tea and India needing to bat as long as possible. Rahane's was more down to poor execution.

The batsmen seem unable to bat out 1-2 sessions which is what is needed when the other team has scored 570 runs. Agreed, England have been bowling really well but some of the batsmen are not applying themselves much. Sharma's dismissal was shocking.

Assuming we can get the last wicket quickly, to follow on or not? I'd say stick them in again - bowlers are fresh and they still need over 200 runs to make us bat again (watch them coast past the follow on target now).
