India's tour of England

On the DRS, absolute joke as I've put before that India even had a choice in it. Several shocking decisions over the 3 matches so far would have been undone.

With regards to the follow on, convinced they should have taken it, that could be India 2 down at lunch and we'd be well on the way to victory.
They would have had to have batted until halfway through the final session just to get the scores level. Safe to assume 2/3 wickets down minimum.
Then tomorrow, fresh start and finish them off. Any target would be minimal. Now we're left with the distinct possibility that Cook won't give the bowlers enough time to take 10 wickets.

Surprised England didnt enforce the follow on, always think captain miss a trick when they chose not to do so. You should always back your batsmen to chase a lower total than your bowlers to get 10 wickets with the overs running out.

After his latest dismissal, kohli has an average of 38 away from home. In an era where the quality of bowling has seriously dropped and most of the pitches are batsmen friendly. Anyone else think he is a tad overrated as the best batsmen of this generation?

Cook's in a no win position, if he'd taken the follow on people would have moaned it was the wrong decision too. As it is we'll likely be bowling at them for the final 4 sessions of the match, if we can't get them all out in that time, why on earth would you think we'd have got them all out in a sensible time by making them follow on when the pitch should in theory be easier to bat on with less fresh bowlers?

The only reason to enforce a follow on in situations like today is if the weather looks dicey. As it looks fine, the only sensible decision given the situation is to not enforce the follow on, and use the rare opportunity to really crush India in the ground. England haven't been on top like this in a long time. I could understand if we'd batted again and gone along at 2.5 an over, but the run rate at the moment is perfectly fine.

I love Anderson's rhythmic run up, action and the release. It is like Clockwork.

Surely one of the best bowlers in the last 10 years.

Some really stunningly dumb play by India in this match.

Farcical decision to not give Dhawan out off Ali, pretty much as clear a LBW as you can get.

How brilliant would it be if England won this series with Cook as captain? Massive middle finger to the haters.

Not sure what you're on about. He's captained well this game, but that doesn't change the fact that he's been awful up till now.

I am rather hopelessly optimistic when it comes to cricket. Still think we can draw this.

Yeah, it really is a series that England were expected to win, even after the second test.

Watching Rohit Sharma just makes me laugh for some reason, don't know why. The Chavez Jr of cricket.

How? Even before series began it was clear that this England team were in their worst phase for long time, not enough proven players and those few who are, were out of form. In fact this is India's best chance of winning an away series in long time. Except Lord's, pitches haven't been too bad to bat either and Lord's was a sporting one not totally bowler's paradise. It was India who have to be favourites to win series and more so after 2nd test.

Because their seam attack (on paper at least) is vastly superior. Even if England are the weakest they've been for a long time, it's still a home series against India - an Indian team that hadn't won outside of the subcontinent for a few years.

See, history doesn't matter. It used to be tough winning in West Indies for India or for most countries for that matter, not anymore. Now, I am not comparing England to West Indies, they still are a much better unit but they too had lot of unproven batsmen to begin with. The vastly superior bowlers on paper came 2nd best against Sri Lanka and were woeful in Australia. Add to that, pitches and conditions are lot easier to bat than 2011. Indian batsmen did well against SA and NZ away overall. The overall fast bowling unit, though not best in world by any stretch of imagination, is potentially best of India in long time.
So, all this considered, if this India team still has England as favourite even after winning 2nd test, then they will never be able to win a series away.

Good points there - I think I'm more guilty of underrating this Indian team more than anything. While that might be the case, I'd still have England as favourites based mostly on talent and skill in English conditions. Recent form of both sides provide a strong case for India but I'd still give the edge to England.

He was awful away in India in his first test series as captain and in the Ashes last summer was he? Not much he could have done down under when the whole team was shambolic either. You sound like Piers Morgan.

What were your thoughts on Moyes after home leg vs Bayern?

Comparing David Moyes to Alistair Cook? Okay then mate

So we lost 4 wickets in the second innings to a run out, moeen ali and joe root?

Well fecking done.

That was what struck me. None of our frontline bowlers have even chipped in yet, this innings, and we're closing in on victory.

India just haven't turned up in this game.

Our team selection was diabolical IMO.

I said that Ashwin should've played instead of Rohit.

Anyway next test should be interesting. Anderson should be banned and Broad looks very tired. Losing Anderson would be a very big blow.

It would. At some point we need to face up to the fact the two of them can't keep doing this, anyway, so it could be a blessing in disguise in the long run, but it certainly will leave us a lot weaker right now.

I'm baffled with how well the last few days have gone. All those that needed a performance have given one. Would take something truly diabolical to screw it up from here.

Very harsh on England if Rohit Sharma chooses tomorrow of all days to play a worldie.

Up till this test, he has been the worst captain I have seen on a cricket field.

And yes, he was bad in the first test series in India and awful in the Ashes last summer.

Just because a team wins, it doesn't mean he captained well.

The run out was unbelievable. There was never a run there, it was like when I press the run button without looking where the ball has gone when playing DBC14.

Taking that risk when you are saving a test. :wenger:
