India politics thread

Not even an original retort. As long as there is persecution of both communities the law should not see them as inherently different. Discrimination is discrimination. Unless you wish to look at Hindus and Muslims differently which would say more about you than them.
Not worth replying.

I agree. The persecuted sects in Muslims/atheists should also added to it.

From what I have read, the CAB bill reduces from 11years to 5 for non Muslim migrants on the grounds of religious persecution. It is not stopping illegal Muslims from gaining nationality.
Did you read what I wrote? It should be mandatory for any person from say Bangladesh to prove persecution. I do not believe vast vast majority have been subjected to it, Hindu or otherwise.

So, "the religious minorities under persecution" isn't mentioned anywhere in the Act Gazette. Hmm.
Didn't think it would be. Were that the case, immigrants would have to demonstrate that they are persecuted. The Act seems to proceed on the basis that being a minority in the three countries is enough to grant citizenship submitting they want it.

Wonder why the HM kept beating the "religious persecution" drum at all times then.

The beginning of the end of India as a secular and free democracy. The Congress is so bad because the leadership is so bad. They should elect a dynamic leader who can challenge Modi. I am shocked to see how right wing India has become.
This bill will be obviously challenged in the supreme Court.

without including the reason in the Act itself.

Wondering how these guys are gonna prove themselves that they are Hindu/Christian/Buddhists/etc.
Saying Jai Shree Ram should do the trick. Like a keyword to enter a secret hideout.

Post CAA, BJP-Linked WhatsApp Groups Mount a Campaign to Foment Communalism
In contrast to Amit Shah’s public utterances, a torrent of messages have sought to advertise the Act as a tool to ‘kick Muslims out of India’.

There core voters know exactly what they're doing and they are happy. The people who say this only affects immigrants are either retarded or are liars.

Yeah I have had debates with many folks around me and in the end the whole argument boiled down to the fact we dont want Muslims in our country which as a Muslim was very disheartening to hear from people I considered friends.

You need better friends. This bills real purpose along with nrc is to strip the citizenship of Indian muslims rather than to bar foreign/migrant muslims from getting Indian citizenship.

I do live in a liberal bubble tbf and most of my friends and collegues are against the bill, but yeah strangely there is a pretty sizeable group which are pro CAB which was very suprising.
Yeah I'm well aware of that fact.

I am not Indian but have many friends whom I thought were educated and open-minded but I am shocked to find the how bigoted they are.
They were never like this before. It was only after the election of Modi that set them going. Yes India has major problems with Pakistan but it's a political issue and not religious. How many Indian soldiers who are Muslim have given their lives for India fighting against Pakistan. I am sure lots have given their lives.
Modi oversaw the massacre of Muslims in Gujrat and that has not diminished with time his agenda.

I overheard a conversation at office the gist of which was as follows.
  • This is all a reaction to article 370 and Ram Mandir and has no basis.
  • Jamia is a haven for unruly students whose education is being funded by Pakistan.
  • JNU students are brainwashed as a culture to be anti India. They all want to not study but become politicians who would then flame anti India sentiments/break India. Why are these institutes allowed?
And I work at a big 4 accounting firm. Grim hearing to be honest.

Edit : I'm not sure what much of the above has to do with the actual law enacted /being proposed.

Just gonna say it but any indian supporting NRC is a massive cnut.

Also are you sure that Assam wants NRC?
I think they did. Their idea was to have no illegal immigrants, irrespective of background and NRC was their solution. Unfortunately, they received a surprise gift of CAA cause BJP doesn't want to lose their core voter base.

Also, to a certain extent, we can even call the implementation of NRC Assam as botched, given the exclusions.

NRI's played a big role in getting BJP elected. Its strange because they complain about racism in US/UK all the time. I reckon its the propaganda being played on Indian news channel 24*7, hard to differentiate between state sponsored lies and the truth when you're so far removed or they are just bigots but I'd like to believe its the former.

Yeah I've heard those statements being thrown about on Twitter and Instagram. Students should concentrate on studying and not get involved in politics which is such moronic gatekeeping, they cant defend the bill so they try to discredit the protestors. Questioning the government and exercising your constitutional right to protest is now considered anti India.
The amount of hate and racism I've heard from educated upper class Indians is truely staggering. Guess no amount of education can turn you into a decent human being.

Some of the images coming out at the moment are absolutely horrible. A standing protesting crowd in Lucknow has been lathi-charged.

Unfortunately the people I have met do go back to India a lot and are educated people who have their own business abroad and live abroad. So I feel that now they are showing their true colours. It's one thing to blame Pakistan for terrorism problems in India but another to blame everything on Indian Muslims and the non BJP citizens.

The biggest reason Modi got re-elected was because of weak opposition. No one wanted Rahul Gandhi and no one will want him in future too. If the election happens again today with Rahul as the opposite candidate, chances are Modi will win again by default.

I'm seeing it (bigotry) come to light now and from the people I wouldn't have expected it really. But principals and beliefs often don't correlate with your economic standing. Then again, I do think the BJP misinformation machinery plays a huge role.
