India politics thread

Creating whatsapp message:

Gone are those days when Indians used to be indirectly under the Islamic and Christian rule facilitated by Congress.
Modiji has done such a thing that even US is now afraid that Christians and Muslims are losing the grip over India and all our money will be now under the control of our own people.
So proud and blessed to be under the rule of that great man.
 Perfect

There's more, in specific

I still believe the country needs a strong congress party who can challenge and dethrone BJP especially Modi. It's like people have given up on Congress. BJP has been getting a free run and from the look of it Congress won't change a thing. So let us accept Modi till 2029 and keep moaning about them. Ultimately the left can all blame Modi for destroying India but the fact that Congress were equally hell bent on not changing their ideology and prioritizing Gandhi/Wadra image then they deserve no sympathy too and why should one trust them.

I care little about arnab, if you call that defending him then so be it. We can all have 20 pages discussion about arnab and other stupid journalists, would not matter one bit. But what matters is the lack of opposition to dethrone BJP. I still think Kejriwal showed BJP can be defeated. Yes it was in Delhi where he was already popular but still he hit the right notes and connected with the people.

This whole idea that Modi is untouchable is bs. Start preparing for 2024. Congress has already wasted 1 year. 4 more years to go. Bring a fresh face who is not a gandhi or wadra and things might start to look better for the party and Modi and co. might start feeling the heat.

Ok, I will tell you how bad the Congress is. You think the rot is with the Gandhis. That's not the full picture. Scindia was one example, but there is more.
In Maharashtra, about a month before the assembly elections, the State PCC in-charge changed to get them ready for the polls. Some people went to him, saying we want to volunteer for Congress, where should we go? He says - I'm new here, I don't know anything, ask somebody else. Strong candidates in Mumbai had nobody on the ground and lost. This guy is Balasaheb Thorat and was their in-charge for negotiating with Thackeray/Pawar and is now their senior minister. Whatever seats they won (45 out of 288) was because of the individual candidate alone with no help from the state or central unit at all, including no money (lack of money is a problem for most non-BJP parties today). The different state units do not coordinate with each other, and are internally divided - again, see Scindia and MP Congres with Digvijay vs Kamal Nath vs Scindia, also Karnataka (Siddaramiah is an outsider in the party and was unpopular with other leaders), Haryana, Punjab (there are big factions opposed to Amarinder/Hooda), Rajasthan (Gehlot vs Pilot). In Maharashtra the situation was so bad after May 2019 it was probably a misnomer to call it a party rather than a collection of candidates with the same symbol. I think the same is in Delhi.

The damage to Congress has continued since Indira Gandhi in the late 60s and I cannot see how it can be reversed.

Any other government and people like Arnab, Amish Devgan, Sudhir Chaudhary would be either in jail or the channels would have been shut for creating divide between communities. They have probably done as good a job, if not better, as British would have done here while adopting 'Divide and Rule' strategy. Their news even right now is focused on Hindu-Muslim, how Pakistan is dealing with the virus, how Imran Khan has said xyz or a Maulana in Pakistan was crying and praying to God to save humanity.
Add to that their IT cell has done a great job in brainwashing people that foreign media outlets and organizations are all anti-India as they fear India with Modi as PM. Modi to India has been like Mourinho at Utd. Dividing the country with half the country wanting him gone, while the other half resides in his arse. The damage this guy has caused to the institutions, the changes that we've seen in the way people think and talk in his tenure would require a next government a good chunk of time to just turn the clocks back, if that is even possible.

Mourinho is a very good comparison. You had lots of groups; like the ones who were fans of his before he came to the club, the ones who backed him unconditionally because he was utd manager, the ones who ignored his behaviour as long as the club was doing well, the ones who hated before he was even the manager, the ones who were adamant that he would be a disaster...

Has anyone seen this?
https://m.economictimes.com/news/de...as-chinese-territory/articleshow/75415618.cms

Parts of Ladakh (Aksai-Chin) in the China section of the WHO website has been shown as part of Chinese territory with a dotted line and colour code. Also, Jammu & Kashmir and the rest of India are depicted in different colours. A part of J&K — Pakistan occupied Kashmir — is marked with a dotted line, suggesting it as a “disputed territory”.

Many UN maps show parts of Kashmir as “disputed”, but this is probably the first time J&K and Ladakh are shown in different colours than the rest of India in the map of a UN body.

China is really flexing its muscle now in middle of a pandemic.

Its both sides really. No one from either side of the divide is doing enough to reassure the other that they have India's best interests at heart. So while you might term Narendra Modi a mourinho, someone else might call Rahul Gandhi a Mourinho(dumber version of mourinho).

Probably ironic then, that Gandhis are actually the glue that's barely holding congress together right now.

How is it both sides ffs! One side is favouring the majority and spreading hatred against minorities, other is favouring the minority, and not spreading hatred. What BJP is doing is ouright dangerous and will eventually result in riots. Rahul Gandhi here is Moyes, not a mourinho. Will cause damage, but that can be corrected by a series of wise decisions

Article tries to be complimentary, but stops each time it comes close to praising the countries efforts.
So so insecure. For one, it isn't an editorial. Also, the article points out over and over again how India has responded faster and better than other countries. What more do you want? Specifically say India iz awesome and it's PM is so kewl?

Do you also have an issue with lack of articles and reporting about how hard the state machinery is working by Indian media? I'm guessing not.

You can't just expect everyone who doesn't see the world from your lens as biased.

Well that's a great insult to Moyes. Atleast moyes worked his way and proved his work with Everton. What has Rahul proven apart from losing election and being a failure since his entry in Indian politics. If he were not carrying gandhi surname his existence would have been long forgotten. The man went on to lose amethi, and he dreams of winning India. A common man with better ideas would do much better than Rahul.

He's very goof at this pmqs stuff. Raab looks like a competition winner.

USCIRF has been denied visa and not recognised by India long before BJP came into power. But I guess validation from any agency which toes the same agenda line is important no matter who they are.

Which national level policy has been framed by Government which discriminates against minorities?

SC ruling was on land dispute case and not on Babri Masjid demolition. Land dispute case is almost 100 year old and possibly even older case. How is that impeding on minorities right?
It's Hindu's holy land. Has been for centuries just like Mathura and other places.

CAA does not even address Indian citizens and is only for religious minorities of 3 Islamic country. It's not like this was never in discussion before BJP. Muslims from these 3 countries can still apply and become citizen. It's just process for others has been fastracked. Not sure why this is an issue at all.

Assam NRC is seperate case and national level draft on NRC is not even there. Every other country out there has the right to keep registry of their citizens but India shouldn't. We should not have equal law also and should have religious specific laws otherwise government is communal.

Curbing of freedom in Kashmir is quite stupid example. Article 370 had to go and if by stoping internet for few months can keep people from dying, then it was worth it. Not every location is same so this western notion of freedom can't be applied equally everywhere. Or maybe they prefer people to die so that they can pin the blame on India for the same. Ironically the article that these groups keep crying about condemned 5 lac Valmiki's to cleaning job for 5 decade with no rights. Not a peep from any organisation out there. Shamefully nothing from social justice warriors inside our own country. But internet service for 6 months is a big issue.

Before people jump on it, I just mentioned the specific points which was flagged by this organisation. India has serious communal problem these days. There is absolutely no doubt it. But to group India's issue with Pakistan,China,Iran etc is seriously diluting their country attrocites on their minorities.

Well said but too much sense for people to think rationally.

Let's be honest here, the only difference between Gandhi and Modi is good PR work and oratory skills. Both have said extremely stupid things, lack ideas that can be implemented successfully, and are distant from the ground realities.
Despite not being in power, our news channels target Congress more than BJP, more questions and harsher questions are asked to Congress/opposition leaders. The 9pm Primetime drama hardly ever targets the BJP even though they have a fecking majority. The character assassination of Gandhi was the only thing the BJP has executed perfectly in the last 6-7 years. I don't rate him as a leader as he doesn't know the audience, but he is much better than how the public perceives him.

Morally corrupt police force

The FIR mentioned four sections under the Indian Penal Code: 147 for rioting, 148 for rioting armed with deadly weapons, 149 for participating in an unlawful assembly and 120 B for criminal conspiracy to commit a crime. All these were bailable sections.

Three days later on March 13, a Delhi court slammed the police for failing to award bail to the accused at the police station itself. The FIR of March 6 did not contain any non-bailable sections and thus the accused were eligible for bail at the station.

In her order granting bail to the three PFI members, Metropolitan Magistrate Prabh Deep Kaur said: “There is no explanation by the IO [investigating officer] as to why he had not offered bail to the accused persons at the first instance as per the constitutional as well as procedural mandate. Therefore, let a written explanation be called from the IO concerned with respect to his failure to offer bail to the accused persons in bailable offences as per the constitutional and procedural mandate returnable on March 17.”

Subsequently, Delhi Police went on to add several non-bailable sections to the FIR, invoking the dreaded Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Zargar is one of several student leaders who have been arrested under this expanded FIR.

As Delhi Police crack down on student leaders, courts cite lockdown to justify lack of scrutiny

https://www.businesstoday.in/latest...-aarogya-setu-app-mandatory/story/402603.html

Despite privacy and surveillance issues around Aarogya Setu mobile app, the Centre may soon make its usage mandatory for every individual. The government is right now weighing in all options to put a stop to coronavirus pandemic in India, which also includes making the app mandatory for people who want to use government services such as flights, metros, etc, reported NDTV, adding the final decision in this regard was yet to be taken.

Notably, the Aarogya Setu app has already been made mandatory for all central government employees so they could get real-time information about any contact with the COVID-19 affected person.

So what do people here think of the Government's handling of the crisis. Despite being massively anti-BJP I wasn't criticising them until now because I genuinely feel that no Government in the world was quite prepared for it even though some have responded way better than others. Their date for implementing the lockdown also was perfect. Stopping the virus from spreading too much. But as time passes I increasingly feel that the Government is absolutely clue less. They have yet again extended the lockdown, their doesn't seem to be any clear strategy on exiting it and the absolute lack of any kind of relief package for MSMEs is absolutely destroying the economy. My City is in red zone despite less than 10 active cases. Now don't know whether I should blame the state government for that or not but it seems we are in a much better position than other states and the lockdown should have been ended as we still have under 50 cases overall since counting began.

Pretty much the same with my country, lack of decisiveness, flip flopping between 2 policies. Lack of coordination between central and district etc.

Wouldn't blame them too much, there are parties that raises their own interest within government, there are politicians that tries to milk this situation, Plus the government are also blind, we have the luxury of seeing things in past tense, they have to pick a decision without knowing how it'll pan out. You also have to know that those at the top are reading a different briefing compared to us. My guess is that they see things we dont. Not to mention the party in power have to take note of opposition looking to blame them on every corner. Factor in Human factor, factor in religious tension, factor in stupid people, factor in human error.

I agree with what you said : no Government in the world was quite prepared for it

I don't think anyone in India can do anything. No matter which party is in power this situation would be as it is. India is the world's largest democracy and no matter what there will be millions of people who are not listening and who are not happy with the government of the time. Plus they are used to rioting at the drop of a hat.

About 300m people in a population of 1.2bn have smartphones. What are the 900m supposed to do?

e- genuine qs, i have no idea what the sceme is supposed to be at all

I think the Indian government has responded very well to the crisis so far.

More than 2 months since the first case, and we have official infected cases at less than 40,000 and just 1400 deaths despite gradually increasing our testing to above 60 per million. The partial Bhilwara model adopted with zone demarcation and lockdown rotation is one of the most effective responses any country has come up with. The sheer magnitude of contact tracing made sure we had an extremely high visibility on clusters. Local medical research institutes and labs have played a strong role in expanding testing as well. I don't think the duration of the lockdown is too long, either - there were studies from Cambridge very early on which proposed a 50-odd day lockdown in order to prevent a catastrophe.

At times of crises like these, you need the people of the nation to pull as a one unit in the direction of the leadership. It is one of the rare cases where the people's blind support for Modi has actually helped the cause. For the most part - India has adhered well to the lockdown restrictions and co-operated with the government who are in very close communication with medical experts (ICMR) as part of the process of planning exit strategy. As one of the largest vaccine and drug makers in the world with dozens of million dollar companies and extensive international partnerships, we are going to play a key role in vaccine development and distribution.

I am not claiming it's all hunky dory. The BPL population has suffered extensively due to the lack of effective stimulus packages. There are going to be scores of documentaries in the future about one of the nation's largest exodus movements when the migrants moved on foot from cities to rural backgrounds. Communal fear-mongerers have found the perfect disguise to spew their propaganda and the police have unchecked control over human rights while the courts passively observe. The government has effectively prioritised the lives of the top 50% of the population over the bottom half.

This is by no means a perfect response - but again, relative to how the rest of the world is performing (especially the largely populated democracies), India has been the best of the worst by far. If the leadership manages to keep their head around them till early vaccine results are out and do what's needed to be done - we might end up being the 'success story' that Kushner is so fond of mentioning.
