India politics thread

The central government on Tuesday declined to give the Supreme Court a break-up of the share of ticket fares the Centre and states would bear for migrants travelling home by train and also “what amount” was “being taken” from the workers now.

Solicitor-general Tushar Mehta’s admission that he had “no instructions” to reveal the details came as the court heard a public interest plea.

Then bench then passed a written order disposing of the petition after noting that the government had fulfilled the petitioner’s main prayer for transporting the migrants to their native places.

Such governance, much wow.

Taxes now comprise over 69 percent of the pump price of the two fuels, which is the highest in any part of the world.

Taxes account for 63 percent of the retail price of fuel in France and Germany, 64 percent in Italy, 62 percent in Britain, 53 percent in Spain, 47 percent in Japan, 33 percent in Canada and just 19 percent in the US. Till last year, taxes accounted for 50 percent of the retail price of the two fuels in India.

bunch of geniuses.

Guys are people in India actually observing lockdown or ignoring it?

In Pakistan it started off well but people have started ignoring it, police have been lax in enforcement. Now the govt is pretending to be in control by easing lockdown.

I predict a bloody summer.

I have a question and it's not a wind up. Is Modi a dictator?
He controls most of the decisions in the govt. It is difficult to know what happens in PMO, but from the outside it seems there is so much of his personal choice in decisions, rather than a choice made by some kind of team. This is sad, because this is pretty much the Gandhi family were always accused of. It is a general expectation that Modi is better than the likes of Rahul Gandhi, but then that's debatable by how much %.

What makes Modi close to a dictator is his fan following. And the very visible set of mob, IT cell and media personnel who drive the narrative in the country. they vouch by him and strongly believe that his stance is in the interest of the country. He can do no wrong and there is an ulterior benefit for the country every time he opens his mouth. This is the kind of agenda people believe in.
Personally, I think Modi is just a middle man for big corporates who secretly fund the party. The law changes Modi has done after coming to power completely made the donations opaque.Unknown foreign entities can easily donate as well. So a corporate can fund the party in hundreds of ways and then have the government work for them. The political wing of the party keep the fights and hatred alive, while corporates have their things approved.

Why were they sleeping on directly on a rail track? Surely they could have found another space that was not reserved for trains to travel along?

Ive seen this many times all across the sub continent: Why do people take these risks to be so close to a train track?!

Because they thought no trains were running due to lockdown.
