Is he good enough to play in a Champions League winning team, or would United need an upgrade if our ambitions get to that point?

I realise we're some way away from competing with the best in Europe, but I'm just trying to gauge exactly how good this lad is. Would he look out of place at Real/Barca/Bayern, for example?
He was as good as any Bundesliga's player last season.
It's a tough question to answer because last year has been his only true world class season.

I recall that Liverpool had a very serious flirtation with him last year. Poems were written.

Are we buying him as a winger or nr. 10?
Think we'll probably try him out in both positions during pre-season but I think right winger initially because Mourinho may want to give Mata a chance at no.10

Was Cleverley good enough to play in a Champions League winning team? Anderson? Lingard? Fellini? Rojo? They are all playing aren't they?

11 goals in 33 Bundesliga matches but obviously the assists are important. Good player and gives us an extra option but I find it hard to believe we can justify paying 38m for him when we could have signed him for free next Summer. We could have signed him to a pre contract in January. What will he do that's worth 38m this season?
Add some creativity to our attack and give a quality option on the right wing? You did watch us last season?

You could argue the same about the RVp deal. We paid 24m. He won us the league didn't he?

30M in a market where Watford has deemed Troy Deeney worth more than 25m. And yes we should pay the money to get him this year. 30m is nothing for us and we need him this year because our ambition this year should not just be top 4, it should be winning the league.

Yup, Mourinho is not coming to take part he's coming to take over (Stolen: Sorry I'm drunk). Get the strongest team possible for next season and let everyone know we are back.

If you have to pay for each letter on shirts we'll make the money back pretty quickly.

I think you've got the worst username I've ever seen

Yes he did, the circumstances were a bit different though, we were bidding against Citeh and whoever got him would have won the league. I don't think we had any competition this time out, we could have left him at Dortmund and signed him on a free ready to play for us in our return to the Champion's League.

People trying to put a fictional valuation on Troy Deeney based on transfer rumours are just making me laugh.

Seems like a done deal, just some last minute haggling over a few millions to add to the fee.

The Jose effect starting to take place. To convince the BL's best player to leave a CL team for one playing in the EL, who hasn't finished Top 3 in 3 years, says a lot.

TBF with the comments coming out, he seems to be a huge united fan, his dream club etc. That wont be the case with every top class player.

If we talking right wingers he wouldn't get ahead of Messi, Bale, Robben and Costa at those clubs.

He's a big improvement on what we got and that's what we need. He'd get in most of the top teams in the premier league.

No chance.

It will be a CDM, maybe Pogba and Rooney as box to box.

Mata won't be played at number 10 nor would I want him behind Zlatan. Zlatan needs a more dynamic number 10 behind him and two inside forwards.

Holy shit... Jose may be on to something. This approach to free agency and transfers is dynamic! He is on the verge of bringing in one of our most aggressive transfer periods ever.

We won't be in the CL if we don't improve our squad.

Wtf man. So you assume that every other club will allow him to sign for us on a free next year? And that he will still want to join us next year when we deemed him unworthy of any sort of money? We can't even have any official agreement with him yet for a free transfer, because you are only allowed to do that when you have 6 months remaining in your contract. So basically wait 6 months, hoping that his love for us will still be strong, and will throw himself at the chance to sign for us immediately when his contract is expiring, while rejecting the advances of all the other clubs in the world, or even signing a new contract with Dortmund?

The transfer market is not made up of dreams and hopes. Be realistic.

Other clubs might be in for him then.

It's like Martial. Had we waited a year,we wouldn't have gotten him.

That question is basically is he as good as Neymar/Suarez/Messi or Ronaldo/Benzema/Bale. I'd say we're a long way from that with this sort of player, but he's a big move in the right direction over Lingard or Mata for our right wing.

This is complete nonsense, without improvements to the squad we are unlikely to qualify for the CL. If he comes in and helps us to finish in CL places then the €38m would have worked. Then next summer we move on to the next phase of improving the team.

I was under the impression he was considered one of the best BL players last season which automatically puts him ahead of Costa, no?

Are you not doing the same with Mhiki? No one knows whats going on or the fee being discussed. Troy Deeney value has came out in the press just as Mhiki value has came out in the press also. If we wait a year then who will we play on the RW? Who will provide the creativity needed in the team? If we drop interest now and try to sign him in January do you think he will want to still join us?

considering we either played mata out of position or an inconsistent lingard, mkhitaryan is a great step up. Hell, remember when valencia came back and certain folks started calling for him to play RW/RM? At least this issue seems to be solved now. That right side seemed to be such a wasted spot under LVG. Plus lingard still coming off the bench would be a nice touch to keep his progression going.

He was one of the most productive players in the Bundesliga last season but I wouldn't call him one of the best. Just comparing him to Bayern's attackers, if you were to give me the choice between Muller or Mkhi, Coman or Mkhi and Costa or Mkhi, he'd be second choice each time.

Normally an indication of quality.....then again Liverpool's talisman claimed Joe Cole was as good as Messi and Rodgers dubbed Joe Allen the Welsh Xavi so who knows....the delusion is strong with the Scousers

Not particularly convinced he's what we needed. We already have players who can get you good stats in a counter attacking setup. What he didn't have was a genuine creative #10. Oh well. Hope Mourinho knows what he's doing

Getting raiola's 3 players in mki, zlatan and pogba and giving him a combined commission for them would be great. I think he will be a great acqusition. Cant wait for next week now. I guess the plan is to unveil all of the signings made by 6 th july with mourinho on 7 th.
