We can say what we want about the fee, if Liverpool land Henderson they've got a promising young English talent.

Whilst I would have felt underwhelmed had we signed him I wouldn't have been disappointed.

He'll be a good buy for them I reckon although I expect them to use him on the wing.

Gago is a good player with plenty to prove. That's the sort of signing Liverpool need to make. Risky but a lot of upside.

I don't see why they need to sign him. They have Lucas.

Hmm...I don't know if this is a good thing or bad thing.

I've seen him play about 2 really good games. Other than that he's seemed average. Seems like Liverpool are once again gambling on potential like they did with Carroll.

is this lad so special? I haven't seen him many times. The few times I saw him, I was not too impressed

It is understood that the deal that has been agreed is worth £20million and it will include David N'Ggog moving in the opposite direction, subject to him agreeing terms on Wearside.

Does this mean they pay 20m plus N'Gog or that 20m figure includes the value of N'Gog?

After our reported interest I kept a close eye on him, especially as Welbeck was also there. I have to say I was not at all impressed and was desperate for us NOT to sign him.

20m sounds like an insane amount of cash for him and it shows just what a bargain Ashley Young will be for whoever gets him.

Now that our interest in him has died I reckon SAF has settled on Rodwell as his young an' learnin'.

No, it means Kenny threatened to give Sunderland N'Gog unless they paid Liverpool not to. :D

20 million? Seriously?

35 million for Carroll and 20 million for Henderson. Spending heavily on English talent.

7 million for N'gog.

We should atleast get 10 million for Gibson should Bruce come in for him.

King Kenny has beaten Mr. Ferguson to the punch!!!!!!

And raped Master Bruce at the same time. Sunderland were on the brink of getting £18.5M for Henderson and now are getting £5.5M less and a worthless striker........way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory Brucie.

So much to  about on this deal, Ngog deemed to be worth money, Henderson costing 13 million, scousers wetting themselves over the signing etc.

Im delighted, this finally puts an end to all the Henderson to us rumours thank christ, next Charlie adam, come on king kenny you know it makes sense!

The first "article" in this thread, in all it's glory, lest we forget.

SIR ALEX FERGUSON'S WON RACE TO LAND STAR JORDAN HENDERSON

MANCHESTER United have won the £20million scramble for the signature of Sunderland’s emerging England international Jordan Henderson.

The 20-year-old, who earned his first senior cap in November’s Wembley friendly against France, has attracted a number of Premier League admirers including Manchester City and Chelsea.

But Sunderland boss Steve Bruce, currently in talks over a new contract to reward his outstanding work on Wearside, believes attacking midfielder Henderson,, is bound for Old Trafford in the summer.

Bruce’s special relationship with his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson has helped swing the deal United’s way.

The exact details of the transfer have yet to be finalised but both Sunderland and the player have indicated that Old Trafford will be Henderson’s destination.

United could offer North East born Michael Carrick as part of the deal but it is believed that Bruce would prefer Ferguson to allow him to keep on-loan Danny Welbeck.

But the United boss believes that Welbeck can use his season long loan experience to spark a successful career with his parent club and is reluctant to part with the striker.

Well done, John Richardson, of The Daily Express. Well done.

Why would Mata want to go to Liverpool exactly?

I'm not saying it isnt his time to move, it might well be but in the past 6 months he's been linked strongly with Barcelona and Inter. So why would he forfeit automatic qualification in the champions league that he worked hard to achieve at Valencia, to go and play without european football at Liverpool?

Cant see any of Valencia's better players seeing Liverpool as a good move at the moment.

Agree... Mata to Liverpool would only downgrade his current profile...

Mata definitely has the talent to move to the top, hopefully he realises this.

First when I heard the deal was around £20m, I wanted to laugh at Liverpool but I know that they got for almost £7 million, I have to laugh at Sunderland.

I was a feeling the fee was £18m and the £2m maybe was depending on him playing so many games for Liverpool or playing maybe for England or something like that.

Thankfully United didn't sign him. This signing will make me very happy, I don't think he's done much to prove his worth. Charlie Adam is much better in my opinion and still I wouldn't want him at United unless all else fails.

Won't improve Liverpool by much either. Meireles was their best player last season, still have Gerrard (although he's injury prone) and then there is Lucas who was actually pretty decent last season. Henderson does strengthen their squad but really nothing more than that. Meireles is much better in my opinion and Gerrard will always be first choice (unless they feck it up again and start playing him on the wings). Carroll and Suarez will play up front. Like I said, it doesn't really improve the quality if their midfield a whole lot... well, he's a bit better than Lucas but not by much (at least not yet). They really need defenders and wingers, the number of average and useless players in those positions is what they should address.

But hey, hopefully they don't ;)

Edit: But in the long run, it might pay off... MIGHT.

I actually think both N'gog and Henderson are a bit underrated on her. I can understand why that would be the case though.

Ngog being at Liverpool meant there is a tendency to exaggerate his weaknesses and of course want him to be crap. And in the panic that set in when we thought we were in for Henderson, I think a lot of people lost sight of what type of player he is. He's maybe not United quality but he easily has the potential to become a mportant player for a PL side.

I have a feeling that in the long run both clubs will be satisfied with this deal.

Pleased he's not coming to United. That's all that matters. Won't help Liverpool much.
