Was good again tonight and hit the post with a super header.

All the idiots posting Mbappe v Maguire look even more silly.

Predictably getting pelters for the Giroud goal but I don't think he played too badly.

My criticism would be of him and Stones as a pairing really; there were multiple times when players got in between the two of them and eventually Giroud punished them for it.
Not at all, tonight and in general on this WC Maguire was solid like most of United players really. If he's not to stay at United next season, we'll get decent fee for him, it's clear he's a very good CB and has another 3-4 years in him for sure.

Won the freekick which clearly was a scoring chance, also almost scored from power header. Quality was there, but absolutely no luck whatsoever.

Was the only one of the two centre backs that tried to take responsibility in that situation, Stones did nothing, didn’t even look around himself once.
Yeah, pretty much. Stones was marking no one and just stood behind Walker, and Maguire was trying to mark two. But again, Maguire will get the hate for that goal.

He always plays well for England, let's hope that it deceives Everton or West Ham to take him off our hands.

Played well, hit the post & even won us that final chance free kick.
I definitely think Maguire was the better of the two centre backs tonight. Stones was a bit too passive throughout.

Played well in this tournament and will be first change CB under Erik.

The Giroud goal was on Stones but hope that someone takes Maguire off our hands sooner rather than later.

Na he will buy another and sell off Maguire, you can't play him in a high line against the better sides.
Lindelof will be gone before Maguire if a CB is to be sold.
Harry may leave if he wants to play every week in the the Premier League.

Will be interesting if he gets a chance by ETH, he's part of the team that fell apart last year but before that he showed he cna be one of the best CB in the league, so not sure why so much hate about him, while he showed that in longer spells, he can be one of the leaders. Now with Lisandro, Casemiro, ROnaldo -less Bruno, Rashford comin back to a decent form, there will be much less pressure on him, with a good WC under his belt.

He was also injured for a long part this year, so understandably rusty in some games, shouldnt be sold for less then 40-50 mil, that easily his price.. Would be a bomb in Newcastle, Spurs, or WHU, but he can do better than Hammers. The thing is we would need to replace him, do we have someone lined up for that money? The guy from Napoli? Timber?

At least his price will have gone up slightly.

come on Newcastle you know you want to.

Cannot play in a high defensive line therefore has to go.

Maguire had a better World Cup than I was expecting. More of a threat offensively than we typically see for United. His lack of pace wasn't exposed that often. Defended well most of the time.

Thought he had a decent World Cup all in all. Can’t help but feel though that if it was Lisandro Martinez covering Giroud he’d have got their first and cleared the danger. Ultimately the difference between a good defender and a great one!

He had a good WC but don’t think it will make a big difference. Maybe he is closer to replace Varane next time he is injured but don’t think he is close to starting when everybody’s fit.

Another thing is that I’ve rarely seen him play well as RCB but ETH seems to want him as RCB.

Did you see Weghorst vs Argentina?

What makes you think that? Maguire is one of the best defenders in the world when it comes to clearing aerials in the box, it’s just that Giroud is one of the best in the world at scoring aerial goals in box. Harry has won third most aerials out of 96 CBs in the WC, and Martinez least aerials, so don’t get this downplaying of Harry.

While I agree with your point it would be daft to play Maguire over Lisandro generally. Varane would have been the better example for the other poster to use.

But this was specifically about winning a header vs a tall player...Agreed about Varane.

Unlucky for him that by getting as close to Giroud as he did that he deflected the header right into the corner - if he'd been miles away then Giroud's header would have sailed into Pickford's arms.

Ya I agree, was just adding that apart from aerial duels, Lisandro has done a lot of good things for Argentina in this tournament and that most of the teams England played were not setup to expose Maguire's lack of pace.

Yeah just like the assist against Iran, Maguire grabbed on to the shoulders of his opponent, pull them and use them to head the ball. Unfortunately, he didn't score tonight.

Well, Giroud knows about Maguire's lack of pace so this gives him confidence to move around faster instead of standing there like a Lukaku.

He's a good player so I don't get why people act shocked when he plays alright. He just isn't a top level defender and that's no crime as very few are.

The same Martinez beaten to a header for Netherlands first last night?

Maguire had a decent tournament. As you'd expect from a player nowhere near as bad as the memes many base their opinions on.

Hopefully we can get £50m from him off his decent World Cup form

He’s got to be good for someone, but a proposed ETH team he is not.

My sentiment too. There’s still a decent player in him if properly managed, United is just not the place and it’s an awkward fit. This Wc should help us sell him.

He’s had a good tournament- happy for him.
