There’s nothing wrong with that celebration either ffs. This place is so toxic when they decide to hate our players.

How is that not a bad celebration?
This whole season he has been woeful and gifting goals left and right.
United play like shit especially in defence. He is our captain.
Week in, week out he is trodding around on the field showing no fire or passion.
Then we get som half assed sorry on twitter.
After that and being humiliated by our biggest rivals he scores a random goal against a nothing team.
He then chooses to cop his ears in the celebration, which quite rightly by most will be interpreted as him telling Uniteds fans who are distraught by the team and his performances, that he can't hear us and that the critics are wrong.

He is supposed to be the captain's for fecks sake.
I don't give a flying feck if it's what he intended or if he is simply as thick as a pigeon, either way shows he is as far from United captain quality as they get.
Embarrassing is the perfect description for that celebration.

What's up with all the adults on here, Facebook, Twitter etc giving a man abuse for a celebration?

Sure, it's a bit cringe but MANY of the comments are way over the top. It outright bullying. How adults can sit on social media and forums and write these things is a huge social problem.

No wonder players are abused racially when this is the norm

Agreed.

I’ve defended him in the past but there’s no defence for his gutter performances and attitude this year. To have the audacity to score against Albania and then act as if he was wronged for being questioned sums him up as a skipper. Weak, delusional and insecure.

He’s now drawn extra attention to himself too and you can be sure as hell that another abysmal performance for United is right round the corner.

What a load of nonsense. The imaginary narratives are starting to come out now and all the hyperbole that comes with it.
Not really, he’s overseen possibly our worse defence in years, hiding behind the constant excuse that he needs another world class cb to hold his hand despite being arguably the weakest link within that defence. Off the field, the incident in Greece was worse than anything I’ve seen from Pogba who’s biggest crime seems to be a loud mouth agent along with inconsistent performances. Maguire’s been lucky to escape the same scrutiny but that seems to be changing now.

Abuse? I've seen criticism, which he fecking deserves considering how absolutely woeful he has been for the last 10 games probably. Not seen bullying, but it would not surprise me to be honest, lots of idiots with keyboards.

He’s been shite this season but you only have to read this thread to realise he’s getting loads of revisionist crap questioning his overall ability and leadership despite the fact he’s been an exemplary person and overall displayed good form at the club. This season has been a mess and he’s been a large part of that but he’s got every right to try and tell his critics to pipe down.

It's the fecking mindset mate. How he has performed, he should bury his head in the sand like an ostrich.
Which is exactly what you don’t want to see from a Utd captain. If Bruno did this he’d be lauded!

It really only annoys me as it's the same nonsense we've heard from our players in MUTV interviews etc. Beat Watford and we'll have the we're back interviews no doubt.

Just do your job and set your own standards a bit higher.

He is no Manchester United captain.
I mean he literally is and for me he’s been very good in the role. Carried himself with class, has a good mentality and is a nice lad who understands Utd well. He was the obvious choice when he got it and is a far better choice than Pogba or De Gea who people wanted at the time.

Must say I have developed an irrational hatred of hearing "understands United" or "gets United" You only have to read the club Wikipedia page to "understand" a club. It's meaningless as far as captaincy goes.

He's probably the weakest and least inspiring captain I can think of in the last 30 years of supporting the club. Keane is the greatest I've seen and I don't think "understanding" the club had any part to play in his role. He would've been a natural leader anywhere.

He wears the armband and poses with the ref, he brings very little for the supposed role projected from the captain. Very good in the role? I don't think so, this also proves that the mentality is questionable imo, and that means he understands feck all about United. Yes he was an obvious choice, in a team so lacking of characters. Pogba is no captain I agree, DDG also, neither is Maguire, and I am one of the fans that actually liked the idea, rates him as one of our better players and have defended him numerous times on here.

Not sure why people are so upset with his celebration. Footballers are human beings. Maguire has been getting a lot of criticism of late - arguably so, most would argue. However, regardless of scoring against Albania or the winning goal in the world cup final, a goal is a goal, and for someone going through a rough patch, he felt that was a way of saying he's still the same player but players do go through bad spells and when they are, instead of shitting on them, give them a bit of support.

What I do want to add is, it's not just Maguire. This is a team issue. Yes, Maguire has been poor but our team as a collective haven't exactly been fantastic. Actually, who in our team can hold up their hand and say they've been worthy of putting on a United shirt this season? Maybe just De Gea, which says everything about how our season has been.

Going forward, Maguire needs to definately sort out his individual performances, but more importantly, we need to start playing better as a team.

Hilarious reactions
Who bloody cares, get Ole out, then we can see who should go next.

As long as he is here, Harry shouldnt be an issue

When Solskjaer eventually goes at some point this season it’s hard to see Maguire keeping the captaincy under new management. Especially when you’ve got players like Ronaldo in the camp apparently complaining about how badly standards have fallen, part of the captains job is to demand more of the playing staff, not be the first to come out and apologise instead.

Yeh well that’s your problem if you don’t understand the history of Utd.

How on earth does he understand United going by what you have seen from him?

What does understanding United mean for you?

Does Ronaldo not understand United? Bruno ?

How do you know this and what does that mean.
His values align with what I want to see at this club. I also happen to know his family as I’m from a similar area so I do happen to know that he’s from a nice supporting family and is overall a nice lad. That’s something you can’t say for that many of these modern footballers in my opinion, most are entitled fools. Harry is an intelligent lad and he understands what it means to be at Utd, I’m sure he’s as disappointed as the fans that we haven’t won anything under Ole in the last few years but he’s certainly good enough to part of a team winning titles in my opinion.

Whether you like it or not, things like this, on top of his poor form and lack of leadership, will undermine his captaincy even more. I really don't understand it, why pile more pressure and attention onto yourself like this?

I still think he doesn't quite get what it means being a captain at United.

I just think he lives with the right values, he’s the kind of character that would love Utd and what we stand for and ultimately he just carries himself correctly. Ronaldo obviously also gets Utd as does Bruno but there’s different types of leaders. I don’t think for example that Bruno is a natural captain because he’s a moaner on the pitch and clearly gets frustrated with those around him and his own performance levels. Maguire is a level headed player and pretty consistently carries himself well. He’s just abit “boring” for some people, but I’d prefer that over some maverick.

I think he is a good defender. Not an 80m defender by any means. He seems to be on a decline though at United like a few other players under Ole.

He’s a boring player and a boring captain but he’s level headed and usually (aside from this season) a consistent performer who plays every game. That counts for a lot and I think overall he does understand what it means to be Utd captain. Personally I think some fans just don’t rate him and then use that to come up with excuses why he shouldn’t be captain.

Meh it’s clear the whole team is on the decline this season. I’m still confident under the right manager Maguire and Varane would be world class.

An absurd goal celebration deserving of ridicule. Hopefully Harry will learn from this and focus on improving his athletic performances for United, silencing his critics the proper way.

Abuse? I've seen criticism, which he fecking deserves considering how absolutely woeful he has been for the last 10 games probably. Not seen bullying, but it would not surprise me to be honest, lots of idiots with keyboards.

"He's shit" is that criticism?

You have to be trolling. Carried himself with class? He got convicted for fighting ffs.

There were a shortage of options at the time, the only one that springs to mind is Bruno.

And then got cleared. Again it’s clear who has the agenda when everyone said that event was totally out of character and when the details came out it sounded very dodgy and like he was targeted.

come on lads. He celebrated a goal he scored. There’s nothing to talk about here. Save the energy for when he has a bad game (probably watford next week)…
Ronaldo whips off his shirt to show how good he is, Harry can't hear his critics, same level of disrespect to the club in my eyes.

According to an already deleted post in some social media he silenced the critics with a goal against mighty Albania.

I think his post match words are more worrying than the celebration. And he’s acted like this a few times. He said “you’re always going to get criticism as Manchester United captain when your teams playing badly”

No Harry, it’s not just because you’re the captain it’s because YOU are playing badly.
And YOU are responsible for a lot of the goals that are causing your team to play badly.

He just doesn’t seem to take any responsibility. I’ve heard him say stuff like that a few times after defeats. What he should have said is, I’ve been going through a tough time, haven’t been playing as well as I can for Manchester United, the emotions got to me for a minute but I hope this can be a turning point to getting back to how I played last season.

Then this whole celebration crap would’ve died down. But it appears he’s delusional about his form and carries little self responsibility. Worrying for your captain but a nice reflection of Ole. No wonder he made him captain.

what have I just read!? Ronaldo losing his shite and going crazy when he scored a last minute Winner for the club in an important game against a decent opponent to keep United alive in the Champions League ?! How's that disrespectful to the club!? Compared to Maguire "silencing the doubters" scoring against minnows Albania for ENGLAND (not United) in a dead rubber when he was rightly criticised for his DEFENDING for UNITED.. they are not remotely comparable... actually completely opposites.

Ronaldo should be the captain of Manchester United. NOT Harry Maguire.

People have such short memories. He was one our most consistent players for 2 seasons. When he got injured last season we actually fell apart. He’s started this season injured and has not really recovered yet.

He is the sort of player who will want to play every game. It is the coaches and managers fault for playing him when he is not fit or ready.

they pick the team.

Harry will come good again.

I don't think it's everyone else with short memories.... He's been pretty poor since he arrived. 19/20 season he was average/poor, 20/21 season he was awful for the first few months and it was blamed on the apparent Greece incident. He did pick up form later in the season but again was just OK, he's never been good or consistent as you put it. Now fast forward to this season and he's awful again. He's been poor far more often than he's been good. He's not good enough as a defender nor as a captain for this club.

Yeah this pretty much.

Maguire still needs to be Captain. He's so huge that he looks like Captain America.

Remember when Bruno was made captain against Villarreal in the Europa final, Bruno spent all his time giving orders and arguing with the referee and this ended up affecting his game.
