This is the gist of it I think. That Southgate leaves out other CB’s who are having great seasons whilst also saying numerous times he selects players only on merit, not their profile or club. Maguire has been a laughing stock all season whereas Tomori for example has been killing it at Serie A leading Milan and gets snubbed.

The biggest problem England fans have had over the years is their inability to separate club from country. This is partially why the team has been liked by most over the past few years. Not as many United players in the starting XI as in the past...
I would certainly hope so. Unfortunately Maguire has been scapegoated so much this year that I won't be surprised if they boo him too.

it'd be stupid from Southgate to exclude him after performing so well for him in both major tournaments so far. If his form drops for England like here, sure, but it hasn't.
He'll get a good reception from me, too, but you could see the change during the Atletico game. A lot of Old Trafford has lost patience with him.
The booing is inexcusable but I’ve said before, what Maguire is going through is Man Utd’s fault for putting him on such a high pedestal. Making him the highest paid defender in the world and then making him captain. It’s just not right and I think they actually have a duty of care to take him out of the spotlight a bit. Make someone else captain and just let Maguire contribute as a normal squad player.
