Harry Kane MBE | Performances

Where's Glaston? I need to hear his thoughts

You still don't know him? He won't show up until Spurs win a game again. Or until there's another stadium delay in which case he will be here instantly to claim what a mastermind Levy is and that the delay actually isn't a delay. Whichever happens first.

Unfair to blame a club for something you don't know. There are plenty of players who play just as much as Kane. We are talking about an ankle that has been injured by impact here, and I trust the medical team more than those who want to judge with hindsight.
He was reportedly rushed back too early following his last ankle injury, he has played in competitive games that he wasn't needed, he doesn't get hauled off early enough in games where Spurs have a comfortable lead or are in complete control etc

For example, this season he's started twenty one games in the Premier League (every game except one, away at Leicester). He's been substituted just four times. Even then, he is only withdrawn in minute:
89 - when 3-1 up against Fulham
89 - when 3-0 up against us
86 - when 1-0 up against West Ham
77 - when 5-0 up against Bournemouth

Spurs were 5-2 up against Everton after an hour and he still played the whole game. He was flogged by Southgate at the World Cup when he should have been hooked too, he looked dead on his feet but played every minute and then followed that up with little rest or preseason heading into this campaign.

Impact injury or not, the point still stands that he isn't rotated or rested enough, he must be playing constantly in the red zone during the festive period. Perhaps it's a squad depth issue, but Llorente is a decent player that must feel he could contribute against the lesser opponents at times.

I hope people who kept pointing to Spurs as an example of why you don't need to spend on buying players in the transfer window to contest for the title, can now see that in modern football, that is a fallacy for top teams.

Read a stat that without Kane, Spurs win percentage in league (from 2014-15) is 38.5%, with him it's 61%.

Without him it's 13 games, 5 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses. Also average goals scored is 2 with him, 1.2 without him.

Looks like Spurs struggle without him (which is sort of obvious considering how good he is)

Kind of a pointless statistic though, really.

"from 2014-15"... Well yes, the reason why he got a look-in was because Adebayor, Soldado, Townsend and Chadli weren't up to it. There are stats from a more recent range that show it's nearer 50/50

Sounds like you've read the book before it has been written.

Maybe we won't agree on this topic. I agree with you that he plays a lot of games, but I repeat other players such as Messi also plays in games that doesn't matter such as against us when they were already through as group winners. You're right that he was rushed back after the last ankle injury and seemed off the pace. But that doesn't equal that playing was an injury risk, not being match fit or 100% isn't the same as playing with an increased injury risk imo. There are so many sport scientists monitoring the players these days, and I don't think Spurs would risk Kane if they thought chances are high for injury. For me, this is an ankle injury that could have happened after a 2 weeks rest just as easily as now.

I hope they play Troy Parrot and he has a great run!

We are still third remember. Give it a few weeks and see how we cope.

I think Spurs are an example of how you can’t win the title without spending big.

Let's see what's in it after it has been written then.

That's basically what you should do. I'm not suggesting that Spurs will win the league, more that it is logically false to suggest that they are an example of anything that has yet to occur.

How is it they have less money than Everton and Hammers to spend on players despite being in the CL and getting all that extra CL revenue year after year? And finishing in a much higher PL position as well? As well as those new lucrative TV deals? Glaston? Spurs fans?

They spent it on the stadium?

They spent it on the stadium?

£1.2 billion on the stadium and for using Wembley for two years I believe. Although they didn't release detailed figures about it yet, only Levy knows the real amount.

Back in training, ahead of schedule. Could face Burnley at the weekend.

Spurs should stop announcing he'll be out for six weeks, guy always comes back in pretty much 3 weeks. Would imagine 30 minutes off the bench at Burnley (maybe less if Spurs are comfortably leading) then starts at Chelsea and home to Arsenal. 4 points from that and Spurs pretty much wrapped up top 4 there and then.

Rooney came back early from every major injury he had.

It's not always a great idea. Even fergie fecked up big time started him against Bayern when he clearly was still injured.

I remember that well, the buzz around the game when it was announced that he was back and the Bayern players did look pretty worried at first. Clearly he wasn't right though.

Anyway, hoping Kane can inspire them to a title charge but their fixtures are pretty horrible, worse than ours in fact.

I recall when he came back last time early from an ankle injury and was terrible, Spurs should take the extra time to get his fitness back. Llorente has been in good form when he has played, he has been a handful for any balls into the box.
Aye. Nothing worse than toiling on the park getting match fitness then getting presented with opportunities that you'd normally bury when fully fit. Finishing confidence drops and then you drop into a rut that takes a few weeks to climb back out of.

Back at a crucial time for them. Chelsea and Arsenal coming up within the next week.
