Gun control

Man shot and killed 2 people then shot himself, 11 people injured .... in Austria
The only European country, bar Switzerland, where you are allowed to own a firearm for self defence and where anyone can purchase hunting rifles or shotguns from the age of 18 with minimum background checks or need to immediately register the weapon, plus we're talking about a biker rock concert in the woods.

What's your point? Most of us would agree that Austria should bring in stricter gun controls in line with the rest of Europe but their firearm homicides are still under 1/30th of those in the US.

What's your point?

He has none, look at his posts in here, they are all inflammatory , often ignored but if not they are stupid and have no point, and more often just cause an argument. If that doesn't show you, look at his posts in the US Election thread, I reckon 90% or more are completely ignored. It leads me to believe most have him on ignore because he's such a WUM, or people just ignore his posts because they cant be arsed to reply or get in to an argument with him.

Clinton saying that anyone on a terror watchlist shouldn't be able to buy weapons. No fecking shit.

Can anyone confirm this is true?

No it's nonsense, the FBI definition of mass shooting is "four or more people dying not including the shooter" only the nightclub shooting in America this week fits that description. The US has around 10 of those shootings per year, the UK to the best of my knowledge has had 3 in the last hundred years. The tweet says "shooting massacres" which can mean a lot of things, if for example Christina Grimmie's murder is included, the UK has had a lot more than seven ''shooting massacres' since 1849.

The trouble with these lists are that they can be arbitrary. I think Senator Ted Kennedy was on the no-fly list.

You can't just deny constitutional rights to people willy-nilly.

I think they're based purely on name and nothing else which means that with thorough-enough investigation into all the Baracks of the world, Obama would be denied too.

Tired of this 2nd amendment bullshite. Nobody is proposing to prohibit the sale of firearms. But you have to have a bloody good reason to want one. A thorough background check is the least you can expect.

The US seems to be in great company with other nations having such widespread gun ownership among the population: Iraq, Lybia, Afghanistan, Somalia.

@Adisa this is why some Americans have a hard time stomaching the idea of increased gun control. Current laws aren't even being enforced.

If you can't enforce current laws, how can you convince people that more stringent ones will actually be enforced?

Are you trying to claim that you don't get to choose where you live?
I think it was pretty clear what I claimed... you don't choose what society you are born into. Questions like "why would you choose to live in a society...." seems to blindly assume that everyone has unlimited mobility to just uproot and go wherever they want.

Do you have the ability to move?

I wasnt born where I live.
Good for you. I was.

Moving as in leaving the country at this moment? I do not. Was born to a working class family. Have only recently fought and scraped into the "lower middle class" according to our government.

As I said, asking questions like "why do people choose to live in a society..." assumes that they have the ability to choose what country they live in at all. I would say for the vast majority of the world's population, that would be a stretch.

Bollocks. If your life is that much at risk then the expense of moving is the last thing on your mind.

You don't need to leave the country. I've been to plenty of places in the US where I've felt very safe and would have felt safe to live there. I have lots of family and friends in the US who would never dream of owning a gun and feel plenty safe.

Just do it! I moved back to my mother´s country 30 years ago and have zero regrets. Every time I visit, I like it less. Just the entitlement and the waste and materialism and Republicans drive me crazy.
There's a few places I'd love to move to. At the place my wife and I are in my lives though, it is about impossible.

I took his comment on "society" to be referring to American society, hence my reference to the country.
