Gun control

If we don't have guns how else are we going to protect ourselves from tyrants or our own government? I can't believe 300 year old laws are still this relevant in America's society today.

Something that is startling to me currently is that my parents in the last two years have decided they need guns. They are by no means gun nuts but they probably have amassed 5-6 guns in the last two years and is planning on getting more. They claim they're "for protection".

I asked my dad how he managed to get through the other 47 years of his life without guns, he didn't have much of an answer.

I agree, that first amendment is a bitch sometimes. Do away with it.

We can practice whichever religion we choose just be prepared for bigots to harass you without being punished.

Obviously some laws are more relevant than others. I just don't particularly think the right to bear arms, and many of the reasons it was implemented in the first place, has any place in today's society.

Prohabition worked.

The war on drugs saved the children.

Terror has been ended so all we have to do now is ban guns and we have utopia.

Or maybe we are doing it wrong?

The local gun store had a sale of a particular semi auto two days ago. They sold out the same day.

ran a sale offering 100 value packs that included a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport semi-automatic weapon, a magazine that holds 30 rounds of ammunition and two boxes of ammunition.

Lee Enfield 303 sniper gun with scope.Got it from a friend for range shooting.

You mean the old SMLE from WW2? I'd like to have a go with that...bring it next time you come to Fair Oaks and I'll bring my pistol and we can go down the local range in Rancho Cordova.

The ammo's a bit pricey for a .303. I inherited a .220 swift "varmint gun" and it costs upwards of $20 a box.

Yes you are. You are giving everyone guns.

And as far as I know any gun laws that are even likely to be seriously discussed aren't in any way like prohibition/the war on drugs.

the gun manufacturers must love it whenever there are such mass killings.

I could see them rubbing their hands when they saw the news about all those kids who got murdered.

Sales manager upping his forecasts with glee.

It is the whole thing in microcosm.
The money in the weapons industry is so significant. Moreso than the lives it costs, apparently.

just went to dinner with a conservative.

He said if a teacher had a concealed weapon perhaps she or he could have stopped the shooter...yeah sure she or he could have out shot the guy with a semi automatic...

his wife agreed yeah..we at least need stop those assault weapons.

I know several hunters who vote both democrat and republican...but none of them support assault weapons. They want their rifles to go hunting...and don't mind smaller magazines.

anyway..the country is waking up...and Biden is the right guy to head these discussions.

lets hope for permanent bans on assault weapons and...other measures to minimize the number of such murders.

I look at such people as insane...it just doesn't compute with me that anybody would want to send their kids to a school where the teachers were armed....or live in a country where this might be the norm.

The trouble is there are lots of these people.

Teachers being armed doesn't sound like a great idea at all. I remember a few teachers snapping while I was going through school. Throwing things at students and throwing a chair through a window spring to mind. Yes they get sacked the next day, but put a gun in these people hands and your just asking for trouble.

Not to mention that a teacher would be just as likely to shoot someone else in the panic and confusion of a mass school shooting situation.

During the spring and summer I shoot a minimum of 500 rounds per week. Some weeks I might shoot three times that amount. Fall and winter drops me down to around 100 per week.

I hunt a little and guide other hunters in the fall and winter. The highest number of rounds I ever have in any gun I own is four and that's only when I'm hunting or guiding. Last year while I was hunting, I fired the exact same number of rounds as animals I took down. While guiding I didn't fire a single round.

That means over 99 percent of the shots I took last year were shot at a paper target either in practice or competition. When I'm shooting at paper, I never have more than one round in the gun at a time.

I can almost guarantee I shoot at least 100 times what the average person shoots and I do it loading one by one, but for some reason these mall-ninja redneck feckheads need high capacity magazines. Somehow not having a 100 round banana magazine hanging out of the bottom of a gun is un-American. I have never understood the need for high cap magazines.

It also blows my mind how many people here that are putting guns ahead of everything else in their lives. I know a lot of people that vote just for 'gun friendly' candidates.

I like guns but if I didn't ever have them or if they were taken away, I'd find another hobby. These people act like the world will end if they're not here to protect it with their guns.

They probably see it as another step towards communism/socialism. No doubt believing everything the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Reilly spout.

They do, that is probably the biggest pro gun argument I've heard. I said it earlier in this thread but the only two times I've heard "this is exactly how Nazi Germany started" are here and from pro gun advocates.

The paranoia is insane, and I get looked at/laughed at like I'm the crazy one.

Even Kathleen Parker mentioned the Nazi Germany thing in her column today...she's supposed to be one of the intelligent ones.

Thing is, I found myself thinking of the Nazis yesterday when I was watching the 49ers game. Huge great flag in the middle of the ground, soldiers everywhere, a fly-past by fighter jets. Obviously it's nothing like the Nazis, but who else does militaristic patriotism like this at sporting events?
