Gun control

 barros, as always, asking the real questions.

People like him are the reason why it will take generations before any real progress is made on gun control.
You see a 30-30 action level rifle thats used for hunting has more power and destruction than a .23 on steroids and can be shot really fast and for some reason that state always gets the things wrong, he was 19 and bought a rifle the media made the target a few years ago, they should raise the age to 21 and like in New Jersey doesn’t matter which state I try to buy a gun because they have to obey to New Jersey’s law, second they need to start sharing with FBI all the mental issues someone has and that includes school issues as well.

The moronic things used to kill innocent kids and adults on a daily basis in the so called land of the free. The things most civilised countries have banned, but the USA sells them in supermarkets next to tins of beans and brain dead idiots defend their right to own and use them because they still think they are in the Wild West or in some kind of Call of Duty game.
You see some countries use guns and other use acid and knives, the countries that use guns at least gives a person an option of self defense and can you say the same with all the acid and knives attacks we see on the news? You see they banned knives in London but some people never read the memo, still carrying them and trying to scare Ozil

I want a tank legally. If some cnut comes at me with a tank because he didn't read the memo then I want to be able to defend my self legally. Also I want land to air missiles and launchers. In case, you know, they come at me through the air.

A gun is deadlier than a knife, it really is that simple.

The worst argument of all time. To be expected though, at least you're consistently predictable.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a knife or acid is a good guy with a knife or acid. That is why I always carry it myself. What helps is that a knife or acid wound is likely to be less dangerous then a gun shot so it works out well. Wouldn't you consider that better than everyone carrying much more dangerous/fatal guns?

There should be an extra tax on gun sales that pays for the treatments of the victims of gun shots + the additional costs they cause.

But that’s infringing on their 2nd Amendment right by having to pay more for a gun, can’t have that!

The ideal scenario would be an unlimited, continuously renewed isolated fund of government money immediately payable to victims of gun violence for the lifetime of whatever disability / rehab / life altered function they suffer as a result of gun crime. You just watch how fast the government would then look at tightening gun control laws.

How about this one, woman dies because a barking dog was running at a cop!

And also, apparently 1 dead and roughly 18 injured in an El Paso Texas shooting today

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/03/us/el-paso-shooting/index.html

It’s just a normal occurrence in America now.

It’s not even shocking anymore.

For fecks sake, now another one in El Paso?? What is it going to take?

Guns bought for self-defense are rarely used for that. I seem to remember reading that, statistically, they're more likely to end up harming someone in the household than to actually be used for their intended purpose.

Allowing people to purchase guns for self-defense, without requiring them to go through training and certification (that they can fail, and thus be unable to buy a gun) is moronic.

Kids hurting themselves and suicides. Lots of suicides.

Couldn’t be more moronic. Murder is illegal. Yet we see murders, so murder law doesn’t work!

Guns are more lethal than knives. A gun in the home is far more likely to be used in a suicide, homicide or accidental shooting than in self defence.

Would you rather a lunatic charge at you with a knife? A glass of acid? A pistol of any caliber? Or a semi-automatic rifle, including a .22?

As someone who grew up with guns, in Canada, including M1 Garands, M14's, Ruger Mini 14's, and all manner of other semi-automatic and bolt action long rifles, .223s .308s 30-30, 30-06, .300 winchester as well as pistols before the 1995 or 1996 restrictions were placed on them (didn't affect me, since my dad was grandfathered in with his handguns). Now, I don't know what your actual practical experience is with firearms, but I will tell you with 100% certainty, that I would rather have a guy running at me with a knife, a glass of acid, a pistol, or even a shotgun, than ANY semi-automatic rifle, .22 included. Now, throw in the fact that semi-automatic rifles can have magazines in-excess of 30 rounds, my dad had a 100 round drum magazine for a .22 semi-auto, as well as several "banana" magazines with 50 round capacity, and 30 round magazines prior to the "high capacity" ban for his M14 and Mini-14, a ban which does not exist in the US. The potential for carnage with a semi-automatic rifle with a magazine capacity in excess of 10 rounds is magnitudes higher than a knife, or acid, or a semi-automatic pistol.

If you want an absolutely chilling example of what this means in practical terms, google Kyle Dinkheller, a police officer, who was murdered by a deranged Vietnam vet. There is a dashcam video that doesn't show the actual execution, but shows enough to know that you do not bring a pistol, to a rifle fight.

I've seen that. Words don't begin to describe it.

Limiting semi-auto rifle magazines to five rounds is probably the best and smartest gun control measure Canada took. It annoys the feck out of some people here but it's no bother at all at the range or when hunting.

People should get their children a Tuffypacks Disney themed Ballistic Shield insert for their school backpack:

"Protect yourself or your loved ones no matter where you go with TuffyPack’s extremely lightweight soft armor inserts."

Genuinely one of the most depressing items I've ever seen for sale.

Murder is illegal but we still have murders, drugs are illegal but they still in the streets and in the countries guns are illegal the criminals still get them.

Are you implying that laws are useless, hence we shouldn’t have them?

Criminals have guns in every country, yet the gun related homicides are negligible low in such countries

I was watching the local news the other day and they did a piece on teaching people how to handle trauma care for high-velocity bullet wounds. This country has gone fecking mental.

I've always argued that you should be allowed one musket just like the FF's envisaged.

The FF's also didn't envisage a "well regulated" militia as something to overthrow the federal government. They envisioned it as cannon fodder for a foreign invading power to chew on, or, as a bludgeon against domestic insurrectionists. The idea of "keeping the government honest" is a relatively recent conservative, uh, "reconstruction" of the 2nd amendment, all at the behest of gun lobbies like the NRA.

Washington hated the militias. Found them contemptible, useless, no, less than useless, and on at least one occasional threatened to start cutting them down himself for not following orders, not fighting, and generally getting in the way of the REAL army trying to come fight the British. Yea, the FF's definitely wanted THAT rabble to overthrow the government they had just formed and would go on to codify in the constitution.

I don't understand why people are even trying to reason with lost causes like this. Let them have their guns. So long as they keep them in the US and continue to blow themselves to pieces, leave them to it.

So because a small number of criminals will still get guns that means gun laws are useless? There’s around 30 murders per year with guns in the UK. Fewer than 10 in Japan. Yes it isn’t zero but it shows how hard it is for criminals to get guns in those countries. It’s a much better situation than in the US where any gang member or lunatic can get ahold of one.

It's alright saying 'Thanks'. The rest of the free world can see just how dumb America is. You shouldn't have to go to a mall, festival or school ffs and wonder whether you'll make it back home. People will say how bad it is, send out their thoughts and prayers then polish their own rifles.

Only you (Americans) can fix it but you don't seem to want to. You're supposed to be the best country in the world. It does't make any sense but people will always try and justify it. They're already talking about the 'mental health' aspect. So it obviously wasn't a brown person doing the killing. If you (Americans) are not prepared to help yourselves, then just get on with it.

Unbelievable. Is this real life? Is this what it has come to?

Someone hit the reset button.

 I refuse to believe that this @barros nutter is a real person.

Whose second account is this, someone's on the WUM here? Someone fess up.

Do you (you) feel better now?

I’m just amazed at how we (Americans) are apparently a monolith to you (you).

That's exactly what you are. Rather than focusing on what other people think how about just sorting out your dumbass gun laws?
