Gun control

Anyone suggesting teacher shave hand guns should watch this. It changed the thinking for law enforcement all over the US.

The one thing I’ll say about why I say “if given the option...” is this...

If in the open, the guy with the rifle wins, almost every time... just watch the video you posted.

If he’s coming into a dark room, through a door way, he’s the one at the tactical disadvantage.

If given the chance to defend that doorway and to not just be a sitting duck as he comes through it, I’ll take that chance every time. The only way to do that though for everyone, is to arm all of the teachers... and not all of them are going to follow those tactics, and it’s probably going to go poorly anyway.

There is another option. Build a safe room in each classroom. Just take cover and let the professional deal with the shooter.

You know as well as I do that GOP controlled states are gonna buy us all guns before they spend that much money building safe rooms.

It really wouldn't cost that much TBH. I could build one in the corner of a classroom big enough for 30 people for under $2k. It doesn't have to be a true safe room, just strong enough to stop high velocity rounds.

On March 24th, I shall go buy a gun to show my support. Guns have been around since the country was established. We live in a copy cat country where one troubled individual shoots up a school, so they all follow suit. The issue is mental health, not guns. [source]

These kids should go to Mexico were a civilian can't own a gun! And we all know what's going on down south. If these kids think that removing all guns is the answer? It's not! That's the biggest mistake we make thinking that way. #armedteachers is what we need! And NOW [source]

This is how you go it:

GREAT PLAN! "Florida sheriff institutes plan to arm college campus staff Feb. 17, 2018 - 4:08-Polk County, Florida sheriff explains on 'Fox & Friends' his effort to keep students safe after Parkland, Florida school shooting" THIS is constructive necessary change! Hear him out-pls [source]

He was reading from a cue I can guarantee 100% Debbie wassman Shultz was the one who Started this, making traumatized kids part of their ploy. I am sad for the kids and shame on dems, he used same line as that accuser of that sen in la [source]

People kill and cut up others daily Daily yet where are the picket signs for no more knives? NO MORE KNIVES, background checks needed on knives and vehicles MORE people die from this than citizens gun shooting. Police shootings another subject [source]

What gun control law would’ve prevented this shooting? Answer: None. You clowns can “demand” all you want, it ain’t happening. I’m going out to the range with my AR15. Later. [source]

This is not gun control. The weapons were bought legally. This is not the world of blade runner you can not stop someone from buying a weapon before the crime is committed. The person behind the trigger is the problem not the weapon. [source]

DEMAND that teachers be ARMED. Show that your safety is important. [source]

On your march.....swing through Chicago and see how all that gun control is working out. [source]

This kid apparently LIKES being a fish in a barrel! This is what happens when the importance of critical thinking is not stressed. Not good to be a fish in a barrel OR, a sheep in a baaaa-ing flock. [source]

Okay so....Hiking kills people, cars kill people, look how many cars have been ran into crowds of people to kill. Yet we don't blame the cars? We don't blame the hiking trails? Why are we blaming guns? If I want to collect guns I should have that right! #USA #Freedom [source]

It is sick that ABC is using these poor young people in morning to push their gun control agenda. ABC you need to have a good hard look at yourself [source]

Only liberals listen to kids with unformed brains to find wisdom. [source]

Good job using kids to push your agenda. #keepingmyguns try securing our schools. After 9/11 they made airports more secure and had no more issues, they didn’t push to ban box cutters. After people drove cars into crowds they made it more secure, they didn’t ban cars [source]

If you do not like the Polk Co Florida Sheriff's plan, I submit it is more about control to you than it is about protecting the children. At that point the discussion ends. HIS PLAN WILL WORK - FOR EVERYONE - but especially for the CHILDREN. [source]

Shame on the media for dragging these kids in front of the camera and using them to push your liberal agenda. You have hit a new low. Most of these kids are still in shock after what happened. There is no limit on how low the media will go to exploit a tragedy. [source]

It's time to talk about protecting schools. Fencing, guards, metal detectors. Control guns all you want. There are still millions currently owned that can't be "controlled". And millions of illegal guns that will continue being sold on the streets. [source]

This is the problem with youth today. I understand their fear, their frustration, but if they continue to blame things instead of focusing on REAL causes, their world will quickly become one where no one takes responsibility for anything & the answer is always "take things away" [source]

Little attention seeking snowflakes [source]

Good on your March also make it for abortion clinics how many children been killed since the shooting and drug overdoses how many people have died due to drug overdoses since the shooting I guess those don’t count! [source]

If the kids get their wish and get rid of guns, I guarantee they will live to regret it. [source]

How about a march on political correctness? You weaklings took God, morality and compassion out of schools. NOW you puss**s have to deal with what you and your parents produced! Guns have nothing to do with this. Mental illness does. Evil students. [source]
I feel for reasonable Americans.
How helpless will they be feeling right now?

Are metal detectors and pat downs not a feasible option?

They seem to have them in the inner-city schools.

There are 60 classrooms in my school, plus the guidance office, front office, gym classes, agricultural sciences, etc. And we aren’t that big... about 1000 students. We have high schools with over 3000.

Then you’ve got the vocational, middle, elementary, and primary schools to take into account.

That’s a lot of money at $2000 per room.

I can't believe constructing safe rooms in schools is a thing being discussed in the 21st century in a supposedly developed country.

They need to vote and join in the marches. Probably won't do much good but better to try rather than not do anything.

These students are pretty vocal and they need to continue to be so.

Issue discussed in the below tweets:

They did have security at the school which didn't deter the gunman

As an option to preventing teachers having to carry guns.

Any change to gun laws has several obstacles. Political differences, supreme court challenges and then the Sates themselves can resits. Short term temporary measures like arming teachers or improving security can be done pretty quickly.

Not really no.
  • Schools have massive perimeters and are not currently secure.
  • Schools have multiple access points, so it would take a lot of equipment and security staff to man the metal detectors.
  • Schools are just not secure. Nothing stopping someone entering the grounds at night and stashing a gun.
  • Johnny shooter could just approach one of the access points and take out the two $15 a hour rent-a-cops first.

What happens when a kid disarms a teacher and kills them with it or commits suicide.
That’s the other thing I’ve wondered when this stuff has come up.

How would we keep the firearm secure?

Would we carry it concealed and it be a secret as to which teachers are armed?

Would we keep it in a fingerprint locked gun safe?

There were 2 kids arrested at other high schools near me after the Florida shooting. One had posted on social media, the other had mentioned it to friends that they were planning to copy cat it.

We get that on a very regular basis in our TV market. Always a kid being arrested for dumb stuff online or being caught with a handgun in/near school

There was one arrested from my school last year... a kid that I’d taught the previous year... for the same thing. Had told his friends not to come that day.

Which is ridiculous.

Such a potent combination of rank stupidity and callousness.

And teaching is a stressful job. What happens if there's a kid acting up and the teacher snaps while armed?

I'm at a loss when a possible solution is to build a safe room for EACH CLASSROOM in the entire fecking country instead of confiscation of guns.

way to take a post out of context. It was a suggestion to the talk of arming teachers.

Gun control is not likely to happen anytime soon in the US. If/when it does it will not happen quickly, it will take decades for a various number of reasons. Resistance from the NRA and politicians in their pocket. Supreme court and legal challenges. States resisting.

Its fecking easy to post online BAN GUNS but it is not that simple.

Madness isnt it.
Like something from a dystopian sci-fi movie.

I'm not for guns in un-trained civilian hands and I'm happy it's been dealt with here at home but "anything" is better than doing nothing and leaving things like they are.

I can't see the US finding a solution to this quickly not even in one generation, I think this need a long term plan that might take generations but it's not impossible if the will is there.

Yes, but it's not so fecking easy to post 'Let's build a safe room for each classroom' when there is so little money spent on schools already :wenger: If BAN GUNS is a pie in the sky, so is a safe room for each class. Nothing is simple in life Mike, yeah we know it.

Be a teacher can be a hell of a stressful job.
I used to lecture in in during my post grad. Those were adults and that was stressful enough.
Imagine dealing with kids.
Accidents will definitely happen.

It would not be that costly. Last week kids were cowering under a teachers desk. Building a glorified closet with a plate steel skin would be very easy. If the materials were supplied a couple of parents could build one in a Saturday afternoon.

Its just a tongue in cheek alternative to arming teachers.

Just curious but what is the average age of these madmen in school-shootings? How about raising the age to aquire a gun until more effective solutions are found? I know if they really wanted to they could get their hands on a weapon but atleast not as easily.
