Gaming God of War: Ragnarok (PS4/PS5)

Oh man, one section of the game is really dragging. I'd be interested to see if people think its refreshing or a bit of a pace killer

Atreus second solo section. Feels like i've been here for hours, which I have. I want daddy back!

Im on this section right now, and I am bored out of my fecking mind. Picking fruit and listen to teenagers awkwardly flirt is not what I signed up for.

I'm on this right now as well. I liked it at first, but it really overstays its welcome.

Incredible game overall. My only complaint of any genuine substance would be the way enemies constantly spawn behind you when you think you've cleared an area. It's giving me Dragon Age 2 flashbacks.

Is this game really the 10/10 Game of the Year all the reviewers have been saying ?

So far I think its about as good as the first. I thought the previous one was overrated as AAA games tend to get inflated scores based on production values. I thought the previous one was 7-5 8/10. So far it's very much the same quality as the 1st but there is plenty of the game left so its a bit too soon for me to give it a rating.

It will depend on likes and wants. I think Elden Ring is heavily overrated and I can’t get through it at all. This has been magnificent for me so far. Absolutely loving it.

I'm playing on normal and it's still quite challenging even against normal enemy fodder. You can't just rush in and button mash. I do wish the camera was a little further away from Kratos so your peripheral was wider.

Yeah I’ve died a fair few times. Takes a bit more strategy than the last game from what I can remember.

It reminds me of Ciri in the Witcher 3. I like her and it can be cool to play as her occasionally and briefly but i'm not sure i'd want to do a full game of that going forward should they go in that direction. I only just finished that section so i don't know what happens next.

Only just met Durlin. I feel like this game is gonna be colossal and I have grown a bit tired of giant games but I'm not feeling the dread of that with this so far.

Also, there is something very satisfying about the loot in this game.

I can’t understand why they use cinematics for the tv spots for games like this. It looks so damn good that surely they’d be better served showing actual footage instead of that fake crap? Meh.

Gotta say I am really enjoying the combat, so satisfying. This game is epic so far! I liked GOW 2018 but wasn't the best game of the gen for me but this is next level.

The side quests are very in-depth. To the point where I forget I’m doing one and just take it as part of the story.

I’m stuck on an infuriating boss. About 24/25 hours in doing a side quest in Alfheim.
Some elf that appears as you’re leaving the library and can’t even come back later because it’s blocking me from leaving. Every time the battle starts she uses a move and Freya shouts “use a shield strike!” So I do and it does feck all because I’m too far away. So I start the fight every time with lower health. I can’t even buy a resurrection stone to give me a bit of a hand. Very annoying.

Definitely agree this tops 2018. Think people might be thinking with nostalgia wheh they say it's better. I've come into Ragnarok fresh from it and it's a much more refined experience.

I got stuck on her too, that move she does is so fecking annoying. You just need to stick close to her really

Yeah just gave it a fresh go after the Utd game and did it first time.

Didn't really have a problem with this but because I really enjoy the different combat style with Atreus. Don't want to upset anyone but I think I actually prefer it...:nervous:

It's a great game though and yeah the looting us ridiculously addictive. Every box, barrel and vase gets turned out.

What shield is everyone using? Trying to perfect using the one that rewards you for parrying. This is the way.

So I finished it, lots of things to still do. The main story is incredible, some moments were truly amazing. Money well spent for me and I rarely say that about videogames. I know there are things to nitpick from and it's the same for every single videogame. I don't care, I know I've truly enjoyed it

Yeah this is a bit much. I’m with a different companion and they keep telling me the hints for solutions to puzzles when I’ve barely had the chance to try and figure it out.
Although, I have to agree with this. It's not gamebreaking but the hand holding isn't that necessary at times ( I wish they give you an option to toggle it on/off)

Is Vanaheim supposed to be blocked off partially once you do the first main things there? I can’t seem to get back to Freyr’s camp from any of the gates. There’s always a weird fence thing blocking me that wasn’t there before. I also want to go back to a Draugr hole I missed but the route is blocked.

Yeah, I want to know this as well. I finished the main quest but there and immediately wanted to go back for OCD purposes and can't seem to get past the same spot either. Have gone off in a canoe now to do some other stuff for her.

17 hours in so far. Definitely an improvement on the first. Never been a huge fan of the franchise however I'm definitely loving the increased variety and scope and the visuals and production values are incredible.

Just got whopped about 20 times off some mush called the hateful  had him down to 1 health (looked like zero to me) about 5 times and he just decided to play by a new rule and batter me

I also feel if you carry one of those revive stones, the game becomes harder. Probably in my head that.

The GOW franchise uses HDR amazingly imo, always looks fantastic.

Combat is smooth but isn't as great as people make out, it's passable, the cameras are bollocks during combat if we're honest.

I've passed loads of stuff on boats/carts where I haven't been able to get off and grab them. Bloody annoying

Hjalti The Stolid. What the actual feck  Guess I’ll come back later.

I think I've encountered a game breaking bug in "the word of fate" main quest.
the quest marker keeps tracking me to broks shop in tyrs temple, but nothing happens even when i speak to him.

Edit: nvm

I've been using the stone wall shield...I tried the dauntless for a bit and decided I'm just not good enough to pull that strategy off. Really miss parrying though, and the old shield that didn't make me choose tbh.

Mimir "Perhaps brother we might consider a stealthier approach to the next battle?"

Kratos "....No"

There are so many great lines like this. When Kratos' shield first breaks:

Atreus: Are you sure you can fight without a shield?
Kratos: It is not my first time.

It feels to me like playing a Pixar movie, written and produced by HBO. Wonderful stuff.

Companion: "Looks like there's something over there"
Me: thanks...i did notice, the same as the time before and the time before that, but thank you.

Comes across a puzzle where i'm genuinely stuck

Companion: (Silence)
Me: ...so you won't fecking shut up for the past hour but now that I actually wouldn't mind some help you're completely silent. Feck you!

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Yeah I’m always finding this is the case

I'm about 10 hours in and really enjoying it. I'm playing on Give Me God of War difficulty, and getting my ass kicked a lot, but it's great when you get past a section you've been stuck on for a while. A lot of the time, I've found dodging easier than parrying. I tend to block too early. You end up blocking, but Kratos gets stunlocked, and you end up taking damage afterwards anyway. My only real big critique is the FOV. I wish it had a slider to increase it. It feels really narrow and can be hard to see much in your peripheral vision.

I do find it strange how your companions give you a tip on a puzzle when you've only been looking at it for about 10 seconds, though. I get that they want to reduce frustration, but it feels a bit too quick.

Yeah my biggest gripe is that Kratos blocks half the fecking screen. I can't see shit half the time because of his unreasonably massive backside.

Yep, you miss 50% of the smashes and bashes because he's in the way

Got to the point where I can back track a little bit now, not sure if I still need new items / weapons / skills to get some of the early collectibles?

I know there's a couple types of thing I need new stuff for but not sure it any is required for the wetlands area. I'm not a fan of forced back tracking, you forget where half the shite was.

It is feckin beautiful though so don't mind too much this time round.
