Everyone likes different stuff, that’s a given but it’s for this reason alone that I struggle to understand why people don’t love the 2018 game. If only all games, whatever the genre, were this well made we’d be laughing.
 
Hopefully this will be the last big first party game made for the PS4.
 
Sounds unanimous, I need to get back to this. Only around 30 mins in but I've been a bit busy

Yeah. They’ve basically perfected this type of game.
 
I like it, but as with the first one, Im not blown away. The interactive movie thing most big budget games do just isnt for me.

I turned it off an hour ago and went back to playing Final fantasy 6 on Steam. I think I might be one of those weird retro game hipsters :nervous:
 
I'm seven hours in and i'm enjoying it more than the previous one and that's strange because the core isn't really different at all. I'm intrigued as to where the story is heading.

I guess I'm old fashioned but this trend doesn't make sense to me. Games are for playing/ experiencing not watching. It's one thing for it to be a competitive game like FIFA although I would rather be buried alive than watch people play that trash, but a single player game? So weird. Unless like you say it's something one doesn't care for so is just casually checking it out.

For me watching people play stuff was a thing in my life when we would have friends over and playing Tekken / MK and you'd have to wait your turn. Or watching my brother play Silent Hill because it was a bit too much for little me.

I think so. BTW do you not like films?

I love me some indie/ hipster games too - like Outer Wilds which most here haven't played and is clearly one of the best games ever made - and hence something unique is always on my radar. But at the same time I dislike turn based combat so never fancied stuff like FF. And modern (or even older ones like MGS3 for example) games with film like realism is a positive for me. So I don't know what kind of gamer I am.

I would only do it for games I have no interest in ever buying
 
A little late to the party but I'm working from home today and finally will get to dive into this. Can't wait!
 
Played about 2 hours and have beaten the first 3 bosses. Enjoying it so far, hoping it opens up a bit more soon.

I love films, but not really in my games. I want games to be video gamey (not sure how to explain).

I definitely don't dislike this game and will finish it and have fun, it's beautiful, well made and polished as feck, I just dont have the waaaaaah I have to leave work and play this feeling for it.

That's perfectly fine really.

My brother is at the opposite end of the spectrum. He needs a strong narrative and top notch graphics to get hooked. I'm always trying to get him into more indie / game mechanics driven stuff to little avail. He gave Elden Ring his first Soulslike a go and he gave up after half an hour. I kept recommending Witcher 3 to him but 3 years after release it was too 'old gen' for him :lol:

I'd say somewhere in between. I find innovative and gameplay strong/ immersive games wonderful but also enjoy a strong narrative lead experience.

I do also like a good story actually. Witcher 3 might just be my favorite game of all time. I also enjoyed Elden Ring but that's because it's hard, I love hard games.

Meh, maybe I'll be completely hooked on this in 2 more days. I hope so.

Yeah, I played a couple of hours and I'm the same: it's nice, polished, fun to play but nothing that blows me away. So far, anyway. Though admittedly, the fight with Thor was pretty epic.

One definite positive is that you get the Blades of Chaos from the start this time - this isn't a spoiler, is it? -, and that thing is so much more fun than the axe.
 
I've caved and ordered it. I need to try and finish it this week or I'm probably not going to be able to play it until Xmas.
 
Only managed a couple hours last night, but it just hits from the first intro. Loved the first and i'm so glad they haven't strayed away from that.

Noticed a distinct lack of 'boy' though, they're clearly done with that Meme :lol:

Thor
fight near the start and ready to head out with the
blades of chaos

Going into rage mode and smacking the shit out of everything is always so satisfying. This game needs solid sessions set aside to get into it.

Maybe not just yet, so not from the very first minute but you have access to them very early on. I still only played that one session last night.

I hope so, I don't really like the axe. The way the enemies float in the air after a heavy attack is a bit lame :wenger:
 
I often find comic relief characters to be extremely hit and miss (and when they miss they can be really irritating) but Sindri is fecking hilarious. Love him :lol:

That scene when they tried tk blind him with light is hilarious
The game is really quite funny at times.
 
So the opening hour is fecking amazing. That fight is so well done. The way they toy with Kratos to get the real God of War is very well done.

Was the death part scripted?

I didn't like either much, but generally I don't love the combat in this. It's fine, just not as good as from or nioh games.

Not sure on the official policy but I think everything should be in spoilers during the game’s release at the very least.

Also personal preference but I do think proper spoiler tags should be used with titles when possible, but I’m old school.

Yeah, Video games aren’t released in one hour batches weekly. We all play them at a different pace. For sure everything should be spoilered and the tag should say how far into the game it is.

common sense really, same thing is done for Netflix shows because they release every episode at once.
