Gaming God of War: Ragnarok (PS4/PS5)

The Maven
can feck right off. First boss fight that's really annoyed me. Trapped in at as well.

Yep that one pissed me off too. I took a break, came back fresh and won. Try and stay close to her.

Think i'm nearing the end of the game. It's a better game than the slightly overrated (i feel) first game and to me it's been more varied and enjoyable. Still can't really guess how exactly they're going to end the game which is a good thing for the plot.

I don't think I actually ever finished the first, think I got close but then stopped because I didn't want it to end  done that with loads of games.

So hard to say what I want without spoilers... only 7/8 hours in but every session there's something new and interesting story or mechanics wise. Love love love it, it finally has that grandiose feeling from the original trilogy.

It's not really a huge deal, but I don't understand why your health doesn't regen after every encounter. When you die, your health gets a refill when you respawn anyway. It would allow you to go into every encounter the first time with full health.

I now understand what you guys were talking about on the slow section.

It lasts forever and a good amount of it feels quite pointless. It looks like it's gonna end, and then Atreus says he'll stay, and you go and do the same thing over again. Half of it could be cut, and nothing of major value would be lost. I thought the boss fight was pretty good, though. It felt like the kind of boss you would get in Kingdom Hearts.

I'm finding hard to explore the world, do side quests and grind loot without feeling I'm ruining the pace of the main story.

Bah, my taste is broken. I just can't get into it. GTA 5, RDR 2, TLoU 2 all over again. I'm making myself play it for an hour a day, but it feels like a chore

Atreus explaining how to do even the most basic of puzzles is really annoying.

I see something to throw the axe at... he points out there's something to throw the axe at.

Same. I wasn't close enough to deflect the blue attacks. Definitely helped being close to her.

Just did another story section with Atreus . I know he's gonna turn out to be prick but I quite like Odin and the guy that voices him does a great job.

Yeah Richard Schiff is great as Odin.

I watched a clip on Twitter of a boss fight and the backseat gaming of a companion was ridiculous.

This game must've have been focus tested on complete mouth breathers.

This is my only complaint and not just with this game, others too. I really wish Devs would put that audio hint shit on seperate audio channel that can be fecking disabled.

I thought that the spoiler'd bit was fine. I like using Atreus so the combat was cool, and I liked the story that played out. I wanted her to go back with him.

And nobody wants regenerating health! What's wrong with you!?

Maybe I'm overly sensitive to spoilers but I'd tag that 2nd sentence afrocentricity. I played that last night but it was a surprise to me not knowing.

Trying to avoid reading too much through the thread, but looking for something new to play. Never played any over the GoW games (I know, I know) but would this be something to be able to jump into without having played previous installations? What are the combat mechanics like?

If you don't want to play the previous game (and I'm not sure why you wouldn't tbh) there's a story recap option on the menu screen.

Combat mechanics are up there with the best imo.

I’m not opposed to playing previous ones if needed, or highly recommended to. I know they’ve re-released them and such, I just didn’t know if they still hold up well, or if this could be enjoyed stand-alone too. Appreciate the response :)

I haven't played the ones before God of War PS4 either. Sorry, I specifically meant that game as this one follows on directly after it.

Has anyone figured out how to get the water teardrop thing (I forget the actual name of it) on Alberich Island? It’s blocked by a metal gate.

:D

I didn't watch any of the trailers so maybe they covered it in there but I think it's a pretty cool twist if you can call it that which I wasn't expecting.
Agreed, it was a nice surprise for me also.

Met Angrboda. Hmm, not a fan of this teen romance stuff that's brewing. It's a bit Marvel-y for my tastes so far. I'm just waiting for one of them to say "So....that happened."

Just upgraded all my weapons and skills from basically starting shite, and seems every enemy has just levelled up too so no fight is any easier really.

I had no problem with the combat. The combat as Atreus is quite good. My issue is how long you spent slowly walking around picking up fruit. This isn't gameplay and why most of us play God of War. After doing it for a good hour, it finally looks like it's going to end, but ends up forcing you into doing more of it. I understand that they wanted time to try and build up a romance, but it's too long.

I wanted her to come back with him as well

Why not for no health regen? I go into a fight with 30% health and die within 20 seconds. When I respawn, the game has given me full health. Why not allow me to go into the fight with full health in the first place? I'm not asking for health regen during an encounter. When you've beaten an encounter, it could give you a restore. I don't see any reason not to do so.

Well, I just can’t get into playing as Atrious. It’s tedious as feck, and the dialogue is fecking brutal. Every time it goes to him I just pulls me out of the game and makes me want to turn it off.

She was wrecking my life until I switched to the stone wall shield. Made her repeating sword throws an advantage for me instead of a frustrating stun lock.

Finished the storyline tonight. Great game. Elden Ring is still my game of the year though.

There is still a bit to do, so between two minds to carry on playing or start Demon Souls.

Odin is a very good and convincing villain. Respect to the writers for making these gods a bit more convincing than in previous entries.

Felt the entire sequence was overly long.

Also, finding the menu to be too cluttered. Dont know why they had to change it from how it was in the 2018 game. Also, is there a setting for reducing the font size of the button prompts?

Finished it. Speaking as someone who liked the previous game but has never really been a huge GOW fan I thought the game was really good, in fact the best game in the series I've played. It has its faults but the sheer spectacle and the drama is fantastic and I thought they really nailed some of the characters this time (Odin in particular)

I guess I hoped they wouldn't tease further Loki/Kratos content as I kind of hoped they'd just finish with that story and explore another pantheon with new characters and new gods, Carthage or Egypt being my preference.

Elden Ring has still been my favorite gaming experience this year but I can see why some might prefer this. Very very good game. 9 out of 10 :D

I feel like I'm significantly past the halfway point of the game but I still haven't got items/abilities to open certain paths. Getting a "You're leaving this late, aren't you?" feeling now.

I'm quite far in and just unlocked a whole new area. Overwhelming amount of stuff opened up

Played about 10 hours now i can honestly say this is the best combat i've ever experienced
A lot quicker and more fluid right? I don't remember running aground the full area at speed smacking the shit out of everything on the last one, but my memory is hazy...

Only thing is, I have it on no mercy difficulty and I don't know if I'm overleveling as I'm finding it quite easy apart from a few bosses/mini-bosses. Can't wait for new game plus on the hardest difficulty (which was a feckry on the last one)!

They've really nailed the easy to pick up, hard to master combat in this series.

I'd even place the combat above Elden Ring :nervous:
