Clacton is like 95% white so no idea what he is on about.
Local freebie paper did a poll of the area I live in and immigrants was the number one concern. I think there are three "foreign" families within the entire village and they all run restaurants that are rammed full of the very same people every week.

Not that I agree with the sentiment but he is probably talking about the traditional cockneys moving out of the east end of London and into Essex which has been a thing for years.
Not sure how that affects him personally though, he should be happier if anything!!

Oh feck off.

Reading between the lines I think he's trying to say that he feels people have been pushed out of east London because they can't afford it and ergo it's part of a wider cultural change that causes the people who move to places like Clacton to feel disenfranchised. The sad thing of is Reform capitalising off of it whilst stoking the apathy felt by voters despite truly not giving two hecks about them.

KGM has just eviscerated Bim Afolami on Channel 4 news over this 2k tax nonsense. I saw Afolami on QT a month or so ago and he really is terrible at defending the indefensible. He’s just got no political skill set whatsoever.

Always worth remembering with farage that he absolutely, 100% hates immigrants.

He also married a german woman, who came here to live with him, and his kids have german passports.

he eventually left the wife for a French woman, who also came over to live with him.

That working class generation went from small, cold, damp, crowded council houses, to large, dry, warm ones, with drive ways and space.

They then got the chance to buy them under Thatcher.

They have the twin fuel of being ‘pushed out’ and seeing the high increase of non white people in inner city London.

They’re doing bad math with the wrong numbers.

If white working class people realised that they are identical to ALL working class people, aside from degrees of melanin, we’d have a proper revolution.

They’re all idiots. No sympathy for them at all. He’s racist. I dont care how bored he is with the term. The fat twat needs an operating system update. Instead, he’s remain a flag shagging prick singing about the good ol’ days. Childish non-thinking cnuts. All of them.

I agree 100% was just saying what his possible motives for that speech were.
It’s something I regularly came across 20 years ago when I lived in Bow.

This is the kind of discourse that really causes these people to fall into the arms of parties like Reform.

You have a party, which, for the past 14 years, have made these peoples lives absolutely miserable. In that entire time, Labour have also been a shambles.

The people are angry, suffering, desperate, willing to get any sort of hope that is offered to them, so they turn to Reform.

What do you call them? Brainwashed.
These same folk drank the Brexit koolaid expecting there to be less coloured folk coming over to these shores, then when they realised that Brexit was an unmitigated disaster who do they flock to? The same grifter who sold them the failed idea a decade ago. Yes the country is on its knees, but anyone who's capable of the slightest bit of critical thinking would quickly conclude that Reform and chancers like Farage don't have the answers.

The areas most fearful of immigration are, in 99% of cases, where actual diversity of the population is low.

People are more susceptible to ‘immigrant fear’ if they haven’t experienced it.

Whereas the major, metropolitan cities, where people from countless background work together, people know the reality of immigration and aren’t so easily scared.

He is a scared man looking for (easy to comprehend) answers to why his life, his prospects, are in a bad position.

His accent is clearly London.

Interesting that The Guardian is covering the debate as a failure for Labour:

Starmer was prepped on tax claims being a key Conservative attack line, which the party has been using since the chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, held a special press conference in the week before the election was called.

By early on Wednesday morning, it was clear to Labour chiefs that they needed a major damage control operation. Many had worked hard in the first hours of the campaign to shut down any notion of Labour tax rises, kicking off the first week with a speech by Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, where she ruled out any further tax rises, including income tax, national insurance and VAT.

---

It will be interesting to see if this narrows the polls

Reeves having a normal one.

Labour argument is the Tories are bad managers so we are going to keep their policies but manage better. The likes of Reeves really just seem to like the aesthetics of New Labour but not any of its polices.

I think you can tell what she's got in mind there. She's going to borrow a feckload of money. When Gordon Brown did it he had inherited a strong economy and still the borrowing slowly crippled us. Reeves is taking over a shit show, increasing the borrowing even further is going to be felt by our children's children.

Brown cannot be held responsible for the £1.6 trillion of debt this Government have racked up in 14 years, can he? Nearly three times the amount the Labour Government added over 13 years:

1997/98 – £352 bn. 2007/08 – £527 bn. 2010/11 – £902 bn

She is an economist who deliberately avoid explaining the basics of how money is created, how debt works and what taxes are. I despair.

The national debt in 2010 when the Tories took over was around £1trn. They have imposed austerity on us for the last 14 years with all services underfunded and on their knees without exception and in that time the national debt has jumped to around £2.5trn. Growth has been virtually non existent in comparison with our neighbours and you’ve got the cheek to blame it on Gordon Brown?

60% of national debt has been added since he was chancellor/PM, would you like to explain what it’s been spent on and what we’ve got to show for it?

She backed austerity after the 08 crash and labour this election have talked about tough choices. They are going to push cuts.

Brown was one government chancellor in a larger economic model of neoliberalism which started after the crisis of the 70’s. This model collapsed after the 2008 financial crisis/crash.

No one single person or government is responsible for it.

I always have to remind myself she went to the same university and did the same course as Jeremy Hunt.

Isn’t he the guy with one of the most expensive expenses claims generally for an MP?

Of course they are. Neither of the two main parties are calling out Brexit for the economy destroying pile of wank that it is, especially Starmer since he became leader, so the space for Farage to claim the only reason it's failing is that it hasn't been done properly is enormous.

Sadly we seem to be in a phase to appease the flagshaggers rather than trying to actually improve the country.

Thats not what im saying. Brown took over a solid economy and sandbagged it for the next 5 to 10 years by over borrowing. Reeves is taking over a shit show. If she comes in and ramps the borrowing up even further...

She needs some plan to either cut spending or stimulate growth and it appears she has neither.

Yeah was adding to your post not disagreeing.

These people are clueless about society, history, class, poverty, privilege.

Just so self interested and miopic. Awful people being sold nonsense by manipulative grifters.

I feel like something happened when Brown was PM that renders this whole thing moot?

What did his ‘borrowing’ pay for?

Sunak will be delighted with what he has done.
Throw enough shit and some will stick.

I feel like something happened when Brown was PM that renders this whole thing moot?

What did his ‘borrowing’ pay for?

Removed restrictions on consumer debt?
Removed restrictions on risks banks could take?
Sold our gold reserves at historic lows?
Taxed pensions and killed the domestic stock market?
Increased the size of the public sector by 50%?
Took a healthy budget surplus and turned it into a deficit that was not surpassed until a global pandemic?
PFI?
Invaded Iraq?

Any of those? Because they all made our ability to handle any other major shock much harder than it needed to be.

All of that was done from a position of strength. When Reeves gets in she will be working from a weak position so she'd better have some better ideas. So far Labour's campaigning has been very concerning.

sorry @11101 you appear to have missed this post if you don’t mind replying?
