Far left wing politicians think the world is full of rainbow farting unicorns. I feel like a lot of them have a disconnect with reality this is why especially whenever they get into power they go fecking mental. Their perception of the world is the only way forward in their minds and that's what turns them into general loonies. Of course I would love a leftist world where everyone got taken care of however the reality is that it ends up with everyone getting "taken care of".
On the other hand, the right has been great, people are thriving economically, no loonies whatsoever and they are very much open to other ways forward that are not their own religious belief in free market economics. They take care of everyone and never fool the electorate.

I'm curious to know who these mental left wing politicians in power are. Care to name any?

Maybe Jamie Driscoll up north, causing all kinds of damage by supporting awful things like community wealth building, the far-left Trotskyist madman!

It's amazing how the right-wing press have been so successful with the brainwashing of the public. Actually, it's not amazing. It's just the simple result of having a national mouthpiece and repeating the same message over decades until the average person in the street thinks that electing social democrats is akin to putting Pol Pot in power. Pretty disgusting, but hey this is the world we live in.

How has he undermined her credentials or defamed her? Has he commented today?

If the old gang of New Labour politicians regenerated at their age in 1997 and were going up against the current politicians in the current election they would be polling at well over 60%

The government was massively tarnished by Iraq and the response to 7/7 but the country was so much better domestically

I am not on Twitter, but I assume Jones is responding to Starmer's line that he only wants "the highest quality candidates". I wasn't really focusing on him in any event. Shaheen is apparently seeking legal advice at the moment.

Fair enough. I just don't see any legal action being successful but what do I know? Wanting the highest quality candidates is a pretty bland statement to be honest.

No any action won't be successful. The courts have been consistent that political parties are private organisations that set their own rules (that does lead to bizarre situations where courts say the public have no right to know how Liz Truss was chosen to be Tory Party leader because the Tory Party is not a public body). Anyway, I was more thinking of the optics of a legal challenge by a deselected candidate during a GE campaign. It almost would not matter what the result was given its potential impact on voters.

I have my doubts that many (apart from the more politically aware) will care that much. We will see, I guess.

In response to a question about blocking people, he responded with 'I only want the highest quality candidates', inferring that those he has stopped are not, high quality.

Given I understand she is going to stand as an independent, and starmer would be aware of that, you can see why she might be annoyed.

I think that would be quite a push for a defamation claim. Could all candidates who failed selection raise a similar claim? Should a political party not state that they want the very best candidates?

To be fair it was just an Owen Jones tweet, rather than anything of more substance. Maybe she has valid reasons for a legal challenge.

Faiza Shaheen, the candidate blocked by Labour from standing in Chingford and Woodford Green, has announced she will challenge the decision in the courts, claiming she has faced “a systematic campaign of racism, Islamophobia and bullying”.

Citing a series of recent issues, including having a local organiser removed from her team and being blocked from producing videos blaming inflation on “corporate greed,” Shaheen claimed Keir Starmer’s party had “a problem with black and brown people”.

“This campaign of prejudice, bullying and spiteful behaviour has finally been rewarded by Labour’s NEC [national executive committee] and my name has been added to the list of those not welcome in the candidate club. And it is no surprise that many of those excluded are people of colour,” she said in a statement.

Having a problem with black and brown people really is a fantastic way to covert those votes the Tories are currently losing to Reform. Bravo Sir Kier, smashing it out the park so far.

Maybe she will cite something that indicates a problem with black and brown people in a more complete list of issues she has experienced.

I think if they are blocking people for claiming inflation is being caused by corporate greed, which is demonstrably true, then the problem is definitely something else.

I mean, the labour right have always been ruthless, but generally awful, hapless people, but even I didn;t expect them to manufacture their own racism crisis during an election campaign.

Every bit of this is entirely self inflicted.

Christ, starting to get worried now that the Labour campaign is about to get derailed and the Tories stay in. Bloody depressing.

They didn't block her because of that, though. It's an issue she cited presumably as an example of prejudice, bullying and spiteful behaviour due to being told not to put that video out. She was apparently blocked because of twitter usage.

It'll be mixed in with the EHRC findings and the Forde report. From the outside it looks a lot like Labours NEC is being used politically and not consistently.

From The Guardian:

A little detail here that suggests the Conservatives are running more of a defensive campaign than one intended to strike out into new territory. PA Media note that every constituency visited by Rishi Sunak so far this week has been one that the Tories won – or notionally won – at the last general election in 2019. Today he was in the new constituency of Milton Keynes Central which Labour need a swing of 4.7 points to turn into a gain.

Starmer is engaged in battening down the hatches and securing all the loose cannon and those he can't batten down, or secure will get tossed over the side.
The Labour Party, at last, is entering it's 'battle ready' phase.

Putting your ballsack in a vice to avoid listening to Taylor Swift - that's a tough choice.

Keeping the elites collective cock in your mouth by fecking the poorest in society once again isn't a tough decision. It's this false sympathy that convinces me that all politicians are just lizards.

Exactly this. I was at the Chingford Labour Party office last week the day after the election announcement to see Faiza and then went out canvassing for her in the area. I was going to be doing the same today and so was shocked by the announcement. But I can only surmise that Starmer and the executive have calculated that the likely swing will outweigh any damage from removing a fairly popular local candidate in this marginal seat. I'm fully expecting a very strong candidate with no left-wing baggage will be selected, and I'll be out canvassing for them so that we can have the pleasure of seeing IDs beaten on election night.

Chingford is an historic tory stronghold (Tebbit's old seat) and IDS has enjoyed a comfortable majority for 30 years. Labour dearly want this victory and don't want to jeopardise it under any circumstances. Left-wing Labour idealogues are in the minority but always have the loudest voices. They always make the mistake of thinking that the electorate have moved to the left when what actually happens in moments like this is that they are fed up with the tories and aren't frightened by loony lefties because, as in 97 when Blair purged them, Starmer has ruthlessly purged the fringe. There will be some wailing and gnashing of teeth and some votes will be lost but I predict a new labour MP for Chingford will take their seat at the end of this.

Blair hardly purged them. The likes of Corbyn, Abbott, Livingstone, Benn, Skinner and countless others were still allowed to contest their seats as Labour members. Starmer on the other hand is using any sign of dissent as an excuse to purge the leftist elements, usually for the most pathetic reasons.

Did you mention her being a lower standard of candidate and a loony leftie to her face? Or had Starmer not told you that's what you think yet?

You'll have to let us know how the mood of your fellow canvassers is/if you hear much on the doorstep. I think people will have bigger issues to deal with to be honest, but it may come up.

It pleases me greatly that people like you will be more miserable with a Starmer majority government than you are with the current Tory government.

I very much hope you're right and salute your efforts. Only thing I'd quibble with is that it was Kinnock did most of the purging and modernising, and although he didn't gain office he laid much of the groundwork that enabled Blair to do so.

Former Conservative MP Mark Logan has said he is backing Labour at the next general election, saying the party could "bring back optimism into British life".

In an exclusive interview with BBC News, Mr Logan, who represented Bolton North East for the Tories until Parliament dissolved on Thursday, said Labour had been on a "journey" and now offered "centrist politics".

He added that the Tory Party was now "unrecognisable" from the party he joined a decade ago.

Mr Logan won his seat with a majority of just 378 in 2019, making it one of the most marginal in the country.

He said his application to join Labour was "going in today".

Mr Logan, who supported Brexit, is standing down at this election and Labour has already chosen a candidate for his former constituency.

However, asked if he could run for Labour in the future, he said: "I wouldn't rule out coming back into public life."

Explaining his decision to support Labour, he said: "The time has come to bring back optimism into British public life."

a single one of those tweets would be enough to suspend anyone else in the labour party. but not the head of 'we believe in israel'
in fact any candidate tweeting anything like this message would be suspended for anti-semitism.
