More to the point, if you allow Plaid and the SNP there (and UKIP for some reason – yes they poll well but they don't have an MP unlike every other party there) why aren't you also allowing Sinn Fein and the DUP?

Would be consistent, yes, but that would make nine reps on the panel...

Maybe we could start off with them all and have qualifying rounds for the final debate.

Beginning of June - end of May...

I thought it was alright. He knows he's in dodgy dad humour territory and kind of basked in it. The comment about Guardian readers definitely demonstrated a tad of self-awareness, I think.
Ah must of missed that bit. I don't like him at all but I thought he did quite good overall.

Been out all night and that's waaaaaay to many pages to be catching up on.

Cliff notes, anyone?

Seven people argued for an hour and a half and nothing probably changed.

Aye, he's a tad ridiculous but I don't mind him too much overall. Won't vote for his party still though.

Theresa May didn't turn up.
Paul Nuttal is a racist.
Farron is quite funny.
Caroline Lucas is quite good.
Corbyn did alright, but didn't really do anymore damage than he did just for turning up.
Robertson is well suited to this environment.
Leanne Wood is a melt.
Rudd was pretty good at repeating Tory soundbites but struggled when she was taken away from those areas.

Well quite, and 7 was clearly too many already.

Au contraire, her defence to it was 'it is good for business'. It was one of her worst moments in what was a reasonably solid, on message, performance for her.
TBF I don't think the general public care as much about morals as the fate of the economy and consequently their lives as much as they will publicly pretend, it wasn't a bad answer. As we know she couldn't go into any more detail anyway as she was cut off before being allowed to respond to Wood's taunt.

I'd probably be able to take Farron more seriously if he didn't seem like an interim Preston manager who somehow waggles his way into an extended contract but then retroactively gets sacked seven games later after a 4-1 defeat away to Barnsley on a Tuesday in mid-November.
I've always thought of him as a 90s Blue Peter presenter that had to leave after a late night incident involving a pair of comedy fake breasts. You can imagine him saying "phwoar!" about stuff.

But overall he did the job tonight. Lucas and Robertson are better at portraying themselves as politicians though.

I could see someone running with the same manifesto as Farron but having more of Clegg style doing quite well with sort voters Cameron brought into the tory party.

But yeah there's no chance they are getting my vote.

YouGov have got balls anyway - because no-one else is that close. Polls are so split you have to think at least one will have it's reputation tanked.

May dodging it was always going to hurt her to a degree but probably not as much as her showing up and looking like the twat she is.

Any real winner based on what was actually seen tonight?

That BritainElects polls has it getting very close.

I never understood that, aren't the polls anonymous?
Not sure, but the polls before the last election had it close (neck and neck?) and the Tories romped it. Besides, most Tory voters are elderly and won't be doing polls or on social media.

Lucas, Farron and Robertson came out of it best. Lucas was probably the outright winner, but it's hard to see how that will really matter: another Green seat maybe? On a national level no, not really.

People always forget the shy Tory factor. Folks don't like admitting they're cnuts to strangers.

Hopefully the polling companies have learnt their lesson on this one.
