Gary Neville - Pundit

Neville 100% spot on tonight. I have respect for Klopp but he was clearly in bad form and took it out on Neville. He's missed the target again, the theme of Liverpools season.

To be honest if anyone should be having a pop at Neville it is Arsenal and Spurs fans, he keeps dismissing them when he is calling for all fans to unite.
I thought he called it all right on ! He certainly took a solid dig at the North London Duo, I enjoyed it.

Honestly I'm shocked to see so much backing for Uefa when they're arguably the most corrupt organisation in all of sports. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% against this super league, but I think this should be an opportunity to get get of both the greedy owners and the Uefa in one swoop.

So he'll say it when he's made a few more million off them and then make more putting it in his book? classy. As far as growing up goes, I believe if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything, you act like Klopp is on the fecking breadline with nowhere to go if he spoke his mind, wake up, the idea there's something grown up about being a mealy mouthed dodger is a weird one to me, especially when you have the financial security and job prospects he has.
Ach dry your eyes babe the book line was meant to be a joke.

I would love it if they gave their actual opinions, but they are all media trained out their arses with contracts and non disclosures, blah blah. If you think he's going to tell it how it is 30 mins before a game, before he's really came to terms with the entire thing, before all information is available to him, then you're a fecking mad man. Do I think he would struggle for work? Absolutely not. However, is it worth getting fired over just to satisfy some spacker on a message forum?

Moving towards a non competitive competition or invite only competitions is surely not a natural evolution of the game
Thing is that the Premier League and Champions League seems to be crawling more and more towards that each season. With CIty and PSG finding ways to bend the rules while having unlimited funds, with everyone functioning on a limited funds budget. PSG going for their 8th title in 9 years. Man City going for their 3rd title in 4 years and going form strength to strength. Both of them in the CL semi's this season and looking to establish a monopoly on at least the Semi's of the CL each year........ Then you have Juventus after winning 9 in a row in Italy. Bayern the only team who can win in Germany.
Then Real Madrid have a very questionable track record when it comes to their strong connections with the Spanish Government and UEFA, with everyone wondering how they have been able to suddenly easily pay off spiralling debts in the past etc

This was even more evident by the way they kept referring to "the 6 clubs" when there are obviously 12. Basically ignoring the foreign clubs involved.

Neville basically even says forget the 6 and just focuses on Man United and Liverpool.

The point you seem to be failing to see is that I agree with the principle of what Neville and the rest are saying but why were they saying it now and not in 2003 when Roman bought Chelsea or in 2005 when the Glazers bought Utd or in 2009 when Sheikh Mansour bought City and on and on and on...?

No, no. What you said, and I quote, was "Gary Neville is wrong on this one." I'm sorry your own words call you out.

Similarly, your claim that you are a socalist is completely at odds with your desire for a salary cap. Salary caps are promoted by billionaire owners because their profits by restricting the wages of their employees (the players). Pushing down wages in order to protect owner profits is not "socialist" in any sense at all.

In your rush to sanctimoniously criticise ex-players for making their share of money in a booming industry, you are effectively knee-capping the most effective critics of this shite sandwich of a new Super League. Good job!

Great straight talking from Gary - nailed it on - owners, stadium, greed. Yes the trolls and others who dislike him or want to kiss Glazer ass will moan about him. Round of applause for a true red.

I thought Neville was great again tonight and generally speaking I hate Klopp as a person, I think he's really disingenuous and a really poor loser. I do disagree slightly though.

I agree with Klopp that this is not in any way about the staff (playing or coaching), they were not involved in this and they should not be blamed for it. Likewise, they currently should not be made to feel bad if they don't outwardly come out and criticize the Super League because you shouldn't be made to come out and criticize your employers. The time will come for that, and I applaud Bruno and Cancelo for what they've done but its too early to expect managers to do that, in my opinion.

I also think Neville is slightly hypocritical, and this is probably due to the anger he feels right now. He went on about Liverpool's owners being a disgrace and was strong on the point that this is the owners of the clubs that have done this, NOT THE CLUBS THEMSELVES. He can't therefore criticise "You'll Never Walk Alone" (which by the way is the cringiest thing in football history) as part of this because "You'll Never Walk Alone" has absolutely NOTHING to do with FSG. Klopp highlighted this in his interview and I think he is right.

Overall - feck the Super League. Kudos to Neville and kudos to Klopp.

I love Gary, always have, and have never said a bad word about him on here.

But I'm wondering if he was offered the chance for Salford to be in that group of 15 'super' clubs that qualify automatically every season for the Super League, and all the extra millions that would come in for the club and also to his pocket, would he be singing a different tune suddenly?

Don't call me babe! :D

I'm not sure if you're a Liverpool fan but you seem really worked up defending precious Jurgen for someone telling somebody else to dry your eyes, do you really believe Klopp and Ole and the rest of them had no idea what was going down? Come on, crawl out of Klopp's arse, he's supposed to be Mr. heavy metal football, all passion, piss and vinegar but now he's treading carefully? and please stop with the NDA shit, there's nothing in his contract that would prevent him saying what Milner said, he's just covering his arse.

It's not backing for UEFA, it's backing for competition. UEFA are corrupt as you rightly say and something needs to be done but at least there's some way in for all clubs to participate in the elite competitions. This new league is an exclusive boys club for rich owners to get richer. Fighting greed with more greed is not the answer.

No point thinking baout things like this because there's no way to answer these types of questions.

..Paris is worth a Mass

Gary can now stop singing United traditions. Us leaving the European Cup basically wipes out everything we have achieved in the old system.

No, I'm not a fan of bin dipping.

Why would he be covering his arse if there is nothing preventing him? ;)

I reckon he will. Whatever you say about Gary, he is pretty passionate about football. Even Loserpool fans have agreed with his stance. How he is getting pelters on this forum is beyond me. He is United through and through, more than a lot of the parvenus that post on here that rubbish the club if they lose one game, who rubbish a player if he has one bad game. Some of you think we have a God given right to win every game and that is the attitude that drives the ESL. The ESL is going to be sold to the Far East, to the USA, who have no idea of the history of our clubs.
And what's problem with it? whoever owns this club, it's still Manchester United. The club made history be itself, not the owner. No, I dont think we have to win every game, but I also dont think we should to fly to Russia on Wed to play against Dinamo F*king Kiev or Mid-sthg-land and then fly back to England and then have an away game on Saturday. Our players are human, not machine.

Do you see the new form of UCL? The UEFA/FIFA is sucking clubs/players till they are dry. They do nothing but take take 60% revenue of the league, ffs. More games but less money. This is not equality, this is communist's model guys.

I'm totally support this idea, btw, feck UEFA/FIFA

Which is exactly why it’s important WHO sets the narrative.

Currently, Sky Sports are controlling the narrative. Load the website now. How many stories are there banging on about “greed” and “parasites”? There’s even an article where one Sky Sports reporter has the gall to write, without any sense of irony, about how TV money is destroying football!

Sky Sports, the Premier League and the people behind the new ESL are cheeks of the same arse. The way Sky are banging on self-righteously, you would think everything about the current set-up is perfect. It’s far from it. They have done more than anybody to create the conditions under which this has been allowed to happen.

What we do NOT want is a return to the “Sky Sports” and Premier League days, as if that was good. Now Pandora’s Box has been opened and we have seen what these people have done to football, lets have a real Revolution. Not some Sky Sports sanctioned banning of the ESL just to return to the set-up they control.

Will Gary Neville put the same pressure he's doing on Klopp over his matey Ole? Of course he won't.

Hypocrite. What exactly is Salford doing with the backing of Peter Lims billions? Buying out the league to get promotions after promotions thats what. What do you think Perter Lims goal is? Do you think he loves Salford and all he ever dreamed of was to give away all his money to see it succeed. Do you think that if they reach their goal of bankrolling Salford into the Prem they wouldnt take a Super League position. Heck yeah they friggin would. Sorry Gary you are full of sht. You are doing the exact same thing just in a lower league.

Exactly right. He sounds hysterical about the losses he's about to incur, if the ESL were to go through. Neville attempting to sell himself as a noble "football man" is hillarious.

Will Gary Neville put the same pressure he's doing on Klopp over his matey Ole? Of course he won't.

He wouldn't. And that's why he's rightfully being called out on his hypocrisy.

I get what you mean but eventually there's a line where the message can't be taken seriously when the messenger is so compromised.

Gary's activities with his own club, his hotels, his choice of employer have made it impossible for him to talk of foreign money/corruption/equality.

Don't forget he himself is the appeasing face of far east property developers. That's not even considering who he went to work for at Sky.

We need the counter argument to the super league to come from an untainted voice.

Please disclose your employer details and work history. Unsure if your thoughts are valuable without this information.

But he never says he’s against money nor has he been against these owners before. His real issue is that this new format destroys competition. It being a closed shop means the likes of Leicester and West Ham may not end up in the CL if they get third and fourth. He plainly says that he likes money in football, there will always be the rich clubs. But then you have Sheffield beating United. Arsenal drawing to Fulham. If you crest closed shops where they then suck away all the resources that is unlikely to happen again. And if it does, it doesn’t mean anything because Arsenal ending up 9th does nothing to their European hopes.

People are calling Gary a hypocrite when his arguments aren’t related to the things they’re calling him a hypocrite for and he even refers to the things he’s getting criticism for.

Judging by Gary’s Twitter feed, he’s hoping City, UEFA and FIFA to throw a spanner in the works?

Oh Gary, siding with the sportwashers and the corrupt governing bodies, who’ve all contributed to this all happening

Well fwck off then

In what way is investing money in a club to go through the league systems (by earning promotions through football on the pitch) to reach higher levels of competition, the same as starting a closed-competition that doesn't promote fair competition?

If Nev was criticizing City for spending money to win things then you'd have a point, but this is something completely different

It's always better to take a view of a person's actual stated position, over their imaginary one, I find.

Strange thing is in this thread, people are having a go at Neville for investing money in the lower leagues and then also for praising City's owners for doing so with Man City and the local area, at the same time calling him a hypocrite.

Do you really have to break it down? Neville is not a saint but people need to stop lying.

Will Gary Neville put the same pressure he's doing on Klopp over his matey Ole? Of course he won't.

He praised Klopp for his comments and said the club hung him out to dry by not coming out and making a statement before he was put in front of the TV cameras

You're creating your own narrative. Gary said that he believes City might be the one to pull out as they are the team in the top 6 that don't need the money. They are also the ones in the top 6 that can always make UCL. That team doesn't need this super league.

Strange thing is in this thread, people are having a go at Neville for investing money in the lower leagues and then also for praising City's owners for doing so with Man City and the local area, at the same time calling him a hypocrite.
This is inception shit that's hurting my brain

Will Gary Neville put the same pressure he's doing on Klopp over his matey Ole? Of course he won't.
He did say he felt that Klopp and Pep have the best stature to make the real difference. OGS is a P.E. teacher remember? He kicks up a stink, they'll just drop him.

I am conflicted by his “forget the six”.. “how them two have wangled their way in”. This contradicts the narrative. He is either against this breakaway or not. This rant is about justification of teams included which gives me the view that he is only challenging criteria.

Disgusting.

Actually Klopp pretty much admitted he knew this was underway and is under NDA. Loved Leeds putting Earn It shirts in their dressing room.

Really hope fan power defeats this. Still shocked that all managers and clubs involved have been plotting this. Also Southgate has not commented, i.e. hushed.

Agree with all your points on ESL but Gary is only angry about this version of destroying competition.

Where's the competion in the lower leagues when one club is half owned by a Singapore billionaire and the other half a bunch of multi millionaire celebs? Or when a midtable club is suddenly bought by a country. He's not fussed.

So I think its fair for people to point out how selective Gary and to be fair all the other pundits are.

He's good value but they could really do with getting an opposing point of view on there. Some contrast.
