Good to hear him finally admit this. Good to hear him air his reasons why, which are very similar to the reasons I continued to go to OT for ten years+ after the takeover. As I posted earlier, WE’RE all complicit too. If we watch it, we’re complicit. If we buy merchandise, we’re complicit. If we attend games, we’re complicit.
This isn’t after-timing. This point was made by the Green & Gold campaign in 2005. People have called for prominent voices to speak out before. They didn’t. Some fans (very few) stuck to their convictions and walked away. A similar percentage will do the same now. The rest will be angry for 15 minutes and then get over it. And that’s what the parasites in charge have always counted on.

Sky Sports are pretty bad but it's really the Premier League that are the bunch of cnuts that just allowed the foreign owners come in and to never think of the consequences. This is what it comes down to.

Sky need to be a bit careful. The Super League is clearly going to be sold to the streaming services and Sky are likely to be left with a significantly diminished domestic Premier League product that they are contractually locked into broadcasting (and paying for) for years - they absolutely have a vested commercial interest in preventing the Super League. I hope they succeed (for reasons entirely unrelated to Sky's financial health), but they are not neutral observers here.

Sure but that’s the extent of his assessment. No indication he understands how the oil takeovers have played a role in leading to this moment. Banging on about the anti-competitiveness of this new league with not a word about how the oil clubs have distorted competition across the continent.
On another note, himself and Carragher are living in a different era in their heads. When they talk about “the fans”, they’re clearly not thinking of anyone living outside the country. This aspect of the globalization of football doesn’t seem to register with them, yet the Abu Dhabi owners are “awe-inspiring.”

We are all complicit. Every single one of us. If you ever bought a shirt or ticket since 2006 or watched a game on sky you've played your part. This absurd purity test laid out to everybody who hates this awful idea is such a waste of time. Certainly there are people and states instrumental in this that are hypocrites now but there is a spectrum. Neville has articulated well why this is different

Well that's his view that he isn't against foreign takeovers and investment in clubs and enhancing the local area. Which makes sense given he is doing the exact same thing with Salford.

That’s why it’s so attractive to own these Premier League teams, Arsenal have become a joke, have extortionate ticket prices but fans keep turning up. Glazers have heaped debt on Utd, allowed stadium to rot but fans keep coming back for more.
If this all falls apart fans will quickly forget and start worrying about who going to buy in the summer.
Good point made about City, I think they might buckle, feels like they signed up as didn’t want to be left out and aren’t really committed. They don’t need the cash and don’t want stricter FFP, also might like the PR of being ones to drop out.
City and Chelsea have been reported as the final clubs to sign on (ie the most reluctant joiners) to the Super League. A good strategy for Sky, UEFA and anyone else who wants to prevent this going forward, would be persuading City to pull out.

Good post. It'll be fascinating to see whether this movement will grow or burn itself out. Monday night football is fascinating tonight. There's an air of panic with Neville and Carragher here, and I don't think it's anything to do with losing some sky income. They're being careful to address the hypocritical element of their own involvement, and im sure that was planned and its smart to do that.
Its clear that this is much bigger than endorsing a new premier league, or sitting idly by while oligarchs and states buy our clubs though. The panic is palpable.

This is exactly right. The idea that every former player who ever got a job in media is disqualified from having an opinion on something like this is childish and self-defeating.
If you're spending your time criticizing Roy Keane and Gary Neville rather than Joel Glazer, you are the equivalent of what the Soviets used to call a "useful idiot." It's exactly what the Glazers want: turn some fans against former players who are making waves and distract from the actual crooks making off into the distance with our club.
They let Man City cheat willingly. Neville complaining about things being anti competitive in a world where we watched Man City and PSG flaunt the """rules""" - and then praising them on the regular seems hypocritical in the extreme . And the current Champions League semi finalists all involve those very same clubs. It's drivel from him. Real Madrid have regularly been 'helped' by UEFA and the Spanish Government. AC Milan were owned by the Italian President, and many Italian clubs bribed and cheated their way through the 90's and beyond, as we saw in Calciopoli). The 'fabric of sport' is thin at best.
They don't care about us fans, but then they never did. £30 a month for Sky Sports these days.
UEFA, The FA, and Premier League didn't regulate all those years ago and do not act with transparency. And this is what you get. Everybody attached to the game as being 'complicit' and being a hypocrite, trying to 'place' blame on everyone else instead of holding people and parties accountable in specific, tangible ways.
