Opinions on Gary Neville seem to change on a dime.

Did Gary Neville shag your missus or something?Pre-game: Pearl clutching about faceless owners, with no interest in fans or the history of clubs, using football clubs to make money for themselves.
Post-game: Lauding the Abu Dhabi group, with investments in 11 clubs they presumably grew up all supporting.

Anything positive about Liverpool or City and he's back to being shit on their shoeOpinions on Gary Neville seem to change on a dime.

Does steaming hypocrisy not count if the guy doing it played for United?Did Gary Neville shag your missus or something?
Apparently not...Does steaming hypocrisy not count if the guy doing it played for United?
According to Rhodri they were all at it so there's a good chance he did.Did Gary Neville shag your missus or something?
They let Man City cheat willingly. Neville complaining about things being anti competitive in a world where we watched Man City and PSG flaunt the """rules""" - and then praising them on the regular seems hypocritical in the extreme . And the current Champions League semi finalists all involve those very same clubs. It's drivel from him. Real Madrid have regularly been 'helped' by UEFA and the Spanish Government. AC Milan were owned by the Italian President, and many Italian clubs bribed and cheated their way through the 90's and beyond, as we saw in Calciopoli). The 'fabric of sport' is thin at best.
They don't care about us fans, but then they never did. £30 a month for Sky Sports these days.
Neville's response to Klopp
100%. On top of that he could be in breach of contract and get suedLike feck if any of us here would condemning your employer that pay you 100k/wk.
So you're so busy being sanctimonious yourself that you won't actually say that this is wrong?
And your super-intelligent opinion is that there's no difference between Gary Neville and Roy Keane (genuine Man Utd icons), and the Glazers because they are all rich?
Have you considered the possibility that being smug about how principled you are isn't the same as being smart? Or actually principled?
We need DT and Troopz out there giving their opinionsTo be honest if anyone should be having a pop at Neville it is Arsenal and Spurs fans, he keeps dismissing them when he is calling for all fans to unite.
It's a shame that didn't come up. I reckon he would have.“Come on Brighton”
“Come on Southampton”
“Come on Villa”
“Come on Everton”
I wonder if he would have said “come on....” if they were playing us
Moving towards a non competitive competition or invite only competitions is surely not a natural evolution of the gameGary Neville is wrong on this one.
The Premier League chose to sell its soul to the Devil 25 years ago. They have allowed TV broadcasters to dictate. They have allowed the likes of Abu Dhabi, the Glazers, Stan Kroenke, FSG and Roman Abrahamovic into the game. They have refused time and time again to reform the game by introducing fan ownership, salary caps, transfer caps, limits to the number of players clubs can own etc...
I get that people don’t like the idea of a ESL, but lets not pretend its some heinous act committed against football. It’s a natural evolution of the direction the game has been going for a long, long time.
All of Gary’s arguments are emotive. “I don’t like it, therefore it’s bad”. Not good enough I am afraid.
I have to say WE’RE all culpable as well, although I like to think Utd fans did more than most to prevent this by campaigning against the BSkyB takeover in the 90s.
It’s all fun and games isn’t it as fans when parasitic owners buy up rival teams and drive them into the ground. The tribalism in football means that opposition fans have revelled as clubs like Arsenal, United and Liverpool have been bought up by American uber-capitalits. Likewise, City and Chelsea fans have been crowing about their success under their corrupt ownership. Well, look where all that has gotten us now. When you break it down, fans are as bad as the players, the clubs and the broadcasters. It’s win at all costs and sod the consequences. If fans were TRULY bothered about the monetisation of football they should have joined the hardcore in the streets protesting against the likes of the Glazers and FSG...but they didn’t. I distinctly remember being at OT the week the Glazer buyout happened and Chelsea fans had a brilliant day under their new ownership chanting “USA USA USA” at us. We reap what we sow.
100%. On top of that he could be in breach of contract and get sued
Considering he was saying United should be docked points and relegated, I'm sure he would have.“Come on Brighton”
“Come on Southampton”
“Come on Villa”
“Come on Everton”

We are all complicit. Every single one of us. If you ever bought a shirt or ticket since 2006 or watched a game on sky you've played your part. This absurd purity test laid out to everybody who hates this awful idea is such a waste of time. Certainly there are people and states instrumental in this that are hypocrites now but there is a spectrum. Neville has articulated well why this is different
What more do people expect from Klopp? Its fecking disgusting that hes being expected to comment on this shite at all. He condemns it publicly he is condemning his employers...on fecking game day. I swear some of you have no idea how contracts work
Fair point. To be honest if anyone should be having a pop at Neville it is Arsenal and Spurs fans, he keeps dismissing them when he is calling for all fans to unite.
Good response from Gary. I don't think he's been over-exposed. Its just that his opinion is articulate and heart felt so immediately jumped on by contrarians as self-righteous. Sure he's not perfect but he's putting forward his point of view. In a way that is genuinely interesting/insightful to hear. No idea what the problem is.
Sure but that’s the extent of his assessment. No indication he understands how the oil takeovers have played a role in leading to this moment. Banging on about the anti-competitiveness of this new league with not a word about how the oil clubs have distorted competition across the continent.
On another note, himself and Carragher are living in a different era in their heads. When they talk about “the fans”, they’re clearly not thinking of anyone living outside the country. This aspect of the globalization of football doesn’t seem to register with them, yet the Abu Dhabi owners are “awe-inspiring.”
He said he was against it. Thats about as damning as he will ever be able to get as Liverpool manager. You reckon any manager is going to openly bury their employer 30 mins before a game? Chastise them? Grow up. We will hear his real opinion in the inevitable book deal when hes doneDoes his contract mean he can't articulate a clear opinion? I guess Milner mustn't have the same clause in his as he was direct and succinct in his views after the game. Said more in one sentence than Klopp waffled in 2 seperate interviews, he seemed more interested in his personal beef with Neville.
This was even more evident by the way they kept referring to "the 6 clubs" when there are obviously 12. Basically ignoring the foreign clubs involved.Sure but that’s the extent of his assessment. No indication he understands how the oil takeovers have played a role in leading to this moment. Banging on about the anti-competitiveness of this new league with not a word about how the oil clubs have distorted competition across the continent.

It's natural in the way that it's moving toward a stage where it can make more money.Moving towards a non competitive competition or invite only competitions is surely not a natural evolution of the game

Say what is wrong? The owners of the “elite” clubs seeking out more power and more revenue? If so, I’m a Socialist. I fundamentally disagree with the concentration of power and wealth in the hands of an elite few. But is it “wrong” that in a capitalist system, the bigger, badder capitalists continue to eat the smaller, weaker capitalists? Football should be a level playing field for all. We should have had salary caps, limits on transfer spending, fan ownership of clubs, home grown player rules, limits on how many players a club can own etc...but we don’t. The PL and UEFA and even Sky could have reformed the game but they didn’t. They let it become sick and refused to treat the disease.
My point (a view shared by many others) is that it’s sickening watching Sky and the PL suddenly start preaching to us who have argued for a fairer system for fans and clubs for years. They have exploited us to the point many couldn’t take it any more and walked away. Now they want our help because some bigger, badder wolf is threatening to blow THEIR house down? This club knows better than any the dangers of foreign ownership. There’s 100,000 messages on this forum to that effect.
I don’t understand your point about Keane and Neville’s wealth. I have never mentioned their wealth at all. I have continuously referenced the fact I would perhaps have more respect for their opinions if they were honest enough to point out their employers created this mess in the first place.
The point you seem to be failing to see is that I agree with the principle of what Neville and the rest are saying but why were they saying it now and not in 2003 when Roman bought Chelsea or in 2005 when the Glazers bought Utd or in 2009 when Sheikh Mansour bought City and on and on and on...? I’m not having Sky setting the narrative of them somehow being the fan’s champion. This should be a fan movement. I’ll get behind that 100%. I’m not getting behind anything Sky say or do because they go against everything I stand for and as far as I am concerned this is all of their chickens coming home to roost.
