Gareth Bale | Signed new contract

At the time of the Ronaldo sale most of the forum would have suggested Ribery was the most obvious replacement.

The most obvious replacement tends to be the player who's been in the spotlight the most in the past year or so and done a lot of stuff for their club... And that makes them very expensive. We tend to then go for the less obvious choice. I'd love us to sign Bale but after the two Inter matches I cant see it happening.

Regardless of the inter games I don't see him going abroad, very few brittish players do full stop let along this early in their career. Personally I'd say it would be a straight race between us and city should either of us be interested and as he's already at a club like spurs I'd say only a move to united would actually be a progressive move. I'd say spurs are ahead of city right now.

IF he moves, it depends on if he wants to win titles or if he wants money, if it is b/t us and City.

Well to be honest chances are City are going to be just as likely as us to be winning titles in the next 5 years.

I say this again. As long as they have Mancini, they won't win any major titles. I m pretty sure they are going to make the UCL next season and as a result, he is not going to be fired and they are going to have similar results next season. Next 5 years? Maybe. I think we ll some new investments in the squad and even a new manager. The future - only Gods know. :D

One is better than the other by a country mile. There you go.

Bale is much more effective right now however if I was able to choose one for United it would be Wilshere.

why the feck would harry rednapp or spurs want to sell bale, stop dreaming and move on,hes a wonderful player and will get better as time goes on.harry will build everything around him if he has any sense.

Tevez' face;)

Lets be honest he's not that bad, More of a chimps face.

Or they could look at the long term picture and realise that the 30-40m they could get for Bale could help them invest and strengthen the overall squad.

Spurs are in the brilliant position at the moment where they've got at least another two top class players that can play on that left hand side f and do a really good job and if they didn't want to push Modric or VDV out there the money they would get for Bale would easily get them someone like Ashley Young who they're forever being linked with.

Spurs are a selling club and will continue to be one until they get the mentality of being a genuine title contender, that's what Harry is trying to do at the moment but he's kinda contradicted that with him whoring himself about as possibly being the next England manager.

TBH I dont see any player at Spurs at the moment who wouldn't be for sale at the right price and as I said it's a testiment to what they've done there that they could lose 1 player such as Bale or Modric and have a great replacement already in the squad.

I dont think Spurs will contend for the title while old 'arry is in charge

I think they've got a better chance with him than anyone else (baring in mind they're not a big enough club to attract a Mourinho et al) but while Arry is blatantly putting his name forward as the next England manager how can they be considered a real threat? The managers at the very top clubs dont go around putting themselves forward for other jobs mainly because it's arguable that a national team job would be bigger than managing a United, Chelsea, Real or Barcelona

The problem there is that they have squad depth. They almost got the best midfield in England already. They went for squad depth since the get go. They have very many good players, but they need some world class players if they want to contest the title. They could improve their goalkeeper, they have decent fullbacks. But they do not contribute the help they need up front... They have a good goalkeeper, but not a world class goalkeeper. They could improve their backs, they are not good enough from a attacking perspective. And first priority should be a world class forward.

If they get those 3-4 things, they can contend for the title. If they drop Bale, they will never get a left winger of the same caliber. If he is to be sold he will cost a fortune.

Bale wont cost much more than 30m imo, he may reach 35m + add ons and although I agree someone like Young wouldn't be as good as Bale if they can get 35m for Bale and get Young for say 15m they could be left with 20m to spend on a top class striker.

Personally I think Spurs are at least 1 central defender, a left back and a striker short of being a real threat all 3 positions could be sorted if they sold Bale or Modric

Sell Bale > Stick VDV or Modric out on the left leaving the other of the two in the centre

Sell Modric > Stick VDV in the middle

The amount of press Bale is getting it's going to be impossible for Spurs to keep hold of him because someone will come in with a big offer sooner or later and if it's a club like United you would have to assume his head will be turned

van der Vaart is not even remotely close to Bale's level as a winger. As there are no wing backs to do Bale's wide work that would make Tottenham a lesser side by quite a bit.

As for the last bit, you are probably right. If Manchester United or someone else move in for him, and Bale asks to leave - they probably will sell him, for a awful high amount of money.

Bale is the new Benzema on here! There was a lot of wasted wanking over Benzema and most fans on here thought the deal was done and dusted before acknowledging that we didnt have a divine right to sign him! Signing Bale is no different an would be very complicated as Spurs will try not sell. He would be nice though

True VDV is not a winger, nor is Modric both can play wide left perfectly well though (Modric did for the majority of the past 2 seasons before Bale got his place back in the team and Modric was moved inside)

Not sure the relevance there?

I cant imagine anyone thought Benzema was done and dusted purely because as I remember he always expressed a wish of playing in Spain rather than England.

Nor is there any player at Man. Utd who who wouldn't be for sale at the right price .... the sale of Ronaldo has proved that beyond the slightest doubt.

Your "Spurs are a selling club" notion is doubtless intended to convey a difference compared to Man. Utd. But in truth there is no difference: offer almost any club enough money for a player and they will sell.

What if you guys are comparing a black player and his resemblance to a monkey?

This shit with Bale needs to stop.

If they want to look at the long-term picture they should do their utmost to keep Bale in particular, surely? What is he, 21? It'd be different if he were in his late twenties and they could anticipate a forthcoming decline.
Selling him to improve the overall squad would incidentally make Spurs worse. In my opinion, of course.

It will take a better coach than Redknapp to get Bale to fulfill the potential he has IMO.

Wasn't it Lippi who took Zidane to Juventus and converted him to an attacking midfieder from a striker? ....?
No. Zidane arrived At Juve as an attacking midfielder. It can be argued though that Lippi helped him fulfil his potential.

A little touchy aren't we? :p

It all depends on how they invest the money they would get for him, if they sold him and got say Young for the left wing and Hunterlaar for up front would that not make them better than they are currently?

Lennon --- Huddlestone ---- Modric --- Bale
------------------VDV
----------------------Crouch

vs

Lennon --- Huddlestone --- Modric --- Young
------------------VDV
----------------------Hunterlaar

More of a goal threat with the second team IMO

Twice the wages though however, doubt Bale's on a ridiculous amount.

The ability to spot talent?

Jokes.

...
I can't myself see Young and Huntelaar accounting for all of the 50m .... reckon there would be at least 15m left over.
