I don't understand why a lot of you are getting bitter. He's a good young, left sided player with a lot of speed and ability on the ball. Say what you like but his crossing is top notch, and his ability on the ball is not to bad. A lot of us rate Valencia's style and claim he is one of the best wingers in the league for what he does but don't realise Bale has a very similiar style to him with better finishing ability. The only thing that I can understand is that you think he is overrated but which young British top talent isn't?

Bale is going to bè certified worldclass in the next couple of years.

If We're don't Sign him I will bè absolutely destraught.

should've made the extra effort to buy him couple of years ago, not now

40m is ridiculous in any case

So its Young, Chamberlain and now Bale
Fergie is wumming the reporters isnt he..
Everyone is going to make up an article hoping to get it right

Even in today's market, £40m is a lot of dosh to pay out for a player like Bale. But if the Qataris take over management of the club, who'll give a toss about the fee.

So what happens when Valencia's fit?

We have our wings sorted IMO. King and Morrison coming through in the next year.....Don't need Bale as much as I like him. Besides I could never see Spuds selling to another PL club

In a couple of years time we'd be looking back at that £40m and saying 'what a bargain!'

He'd could be massive here.

40 million is a bargain for a top player who stays for 10 years

I'd spunk it all on him...

Just what if he would lose his form and confidence and become the old Gareth Fail after handing up 40 million quids? Now where do you go from there?

I think we need a creative midfielder more. But if we are given enough money to get Bale for 40m and then about 30m left over to buy a midfielder (which I doubt highly is available) then definitely spend it on him. If anyone is worth that money it is Bale. One of my favourite players in the PL. But as I say, wide midfielders are not the priority in the transfer market for us in my opinion.

If it costs 35mil to take Andy Carrol from a club like Newcastle, then it may even take more than 40mil to get Bale from Spurs.

Spurs know how to drive a hard bargain.

When that story came out that Inter wanted to buy him for £40 million in the summer, Spurs came out with some comments to say they wouldnt let him go for that.

So why would they accept it from us? The figure is £5-10 short of what it would actually take to sign him

Spurs have struggled a bit with him out tbh. They are doing well but I wanna see how they cope against Milan with him out.

Its odd but around this time last year (maybe a month or so back) him (and actually nani as well) were both on the fringes of things and were being touted as being sold. An injury or two and a bit of luck to get them back in the team and they took their shot and havent looked back.

Today, I think 40m or so seems like the going price. How long does he have left on his contract if anybody knows (if its been said on this thread, I dont want to read all the posts :s ...)

spurs would want more than 40m for Bale, after seeing liverpool paying 35m for caroll. And i cant see Sir Alex 'no value in the market' paying those fees.

3 and half years (until summer 2014)

I like the boy and to be honest I don't care if he costs 40-60mil I think represents the best player in the market...

He'd be a great signing, but we dont sign players for these kinds of prices.

If we want to sign a player like Bale, we'll be looking for a cheaper version somewhere.

So given that, the price of around 40m in todays market seems reasonable. Even if the player wanted to leave, the club has a good position to make a stance. Hes young, hes lefted footed, hes playing in the premiership for a current CL team and his numbers (goals/assists) have been good for a year.

If Uncle Malc coughs up the £40 million I'll gladly throw in the tenner myself. I think he'll end up being too expensive for us tbh. £40 million+ is difficult to justify when we've got more pressing concerns to attend to at goalkeeper and central midfield.

I agree he would be wonderful at United but who would you leave out? We have Giggs/Park on the left and Nani/Valencia on right for this season and the next. And we still have Obertan, Bebe, Cleverly and Welbeck. So where is Bale going to play if he comes here?

giggs won't be around forever for starters. Park isn't really a left winger either

Where Bale is going to play? I'm thinking left wing..

Giggs turns 38 next season. 38! Park is, well, Park.
