I would love to sign the likes of Bale and i would eventually like to see Nani playing a floating role as he has that little bit of magic to change a game, and beat a man at close quarters.

-----------Rooney/Wellbeck/Chico
Nani/KigawaBale/Young------Anderson/Cleverly---Valencia/Nani
---------Martinez/Carrick/Fletcher
Raf/Evra-------Vidic/Rio---Smalling/Evans-----Jones
-------------DG/

Martinez. WTF?!

Rafael on the left?! :wenger:

The thought of AVB possibly becoming there new Manager may have persuaded him.

He's mental signing for a club not in the UCL who have just sacked their manager. I can't see them in the Champions League for a good 3 years by which time he will be 26. At 26 Rooney has played 8 seasons in the Champions League, for a top class player that should be his target.

Just signed a new contract at Spurs until 2016.

Only means whoever wants him would need to folk out top dollar. Surprised though, a player like him should want to play in the CL every year, wont happen with Spurs.

Its nice to see a footballer have some loyalty to his club but you do wonder how much of a payrise Spurs gave him. Especially to keep someone like him at a club which doesn't offer CL football. Wouldn't be surprised if there is some sort of clause in his contract that allows him to leave if they don't get into Europe next year or if a bigger club comes along.

Nonetheless, Its quite amazing that Spurs are able to sign all their key players to long term contracts and try to dispel the notion that they are a selling club. You've also got to begin to question his ambition because he is not getting any younger and he needs to be playing in the CL on a consistent basis to reach the next level.

Probably just a way to ensure that Spurs receive top-dollar when he inevitably leaves before 2016.

Yep. This time next year he'll probably be gone.

Ah well, it's another City target not going there in the near future at least. I'm not too surprised about him signing a new contract. When the rumours on Harry to England were at full flow he said he wouldn't be leaving Spurs. Since then things have changed (such as them not qualifying for the CL and Harry being sacked) but it's still not that surprising.

It just shows that Bale has other priorities than playing football at the highest football. The way Spurs bottled their season, last thing I'd personally want is to stay there.

... I can't see them in the Champions League for a good 3 years by which time he will be 26....
Sounds like a rash prediction, seeing as we've finished in the top 4 twice in the last 3 years.

Modric is definitely leaving imo. Be it us or Real, he's a goner. He's been pretty clear about his ambition to play in the CL and win the thing.

Unless the new contract has a buyout clause, that must mean he intends to stay at Spurs. Maybe he likes being a big fish in a smaller pond.

Didn't he make noises about moving on recently? What happened to that?

With the manager I just mentioned was sacked. How did you get on with Jol, Ramos, Santini, Pleat and Hoddle and what makes you think you'll get a manager capable of breaking that Top 4 again?

Well, we'll see what AVB can do.

It's a gamble to be sure, like any new managerial appointment, but I'm glad it's him rather than Moyes or any of the other mooted candidates.

I'd have taken Moyes over AVB. One has proven himself as a good EPL manager for 10 seasons with zero budget to work with, the other seriously screwed up a team that when steered back on course without him had the talent to win the Champions League.

Chelski did better in the Prem under AVB than under his replacement: a higher win % and a better average-points-per-game.

But in any case, I wouldn't draw any firm conclusions about AVB based on his short tenure at Chelski. They are a circus riddled with player-power clowns and have an interfering owner ... whilst Spurs are a real football club.

Yes. He's obviously signed this contract with certain clauses added to ensure he gets out under given conditions (X, Y or Z clubs come in for him, minimum fee release, no CL footie etc.), and from the Spurs standpoint to protect their investment. Everyone should be happy.

Sure it's a claused contract... no way it's a gentleman's agreement. Levy is a snake according to Modric, and broke the agreement they had. I'm sure Bale will have learned from that.
