Gareth Bale | Linked with United again

You know things have gotten bad for you when after a loss EVERYONE on this forum is in agreement that we shouldn’t sign you.

 hope he stays there a long time
Yep. Those are insane wages, especially taking his injury record into account. Roughly another 28-30m per season, on top of whatever the proposed transfer fee. Fecking nuts. We'd have every other star player of ours knocking on Woodwards door for a pay increase.

We are getting a bit of reputation of being the suckers who take 'uncomfortable' players off Bayern's or Real's payroll

The Gareth Bale United needed was the one who ripped Inter Milan apart, about seven seasons ago.

I, like a lot of United fans, was so frustrated that a club of our size wasn't making a concerted effort to sign the literally perfect replacement for Giggs.
That Gareth Bale was made for United.

And that time has come and gone.

We now need young talent, hungry to become the next Bale or next Ronaldo or next whoever.

Wow, was that 7 years ago when he destroyed Maicon? How time flies, really...

ship has sailed now for me and I'm Welsh. 2 years ago would have jumped at the chance but not now. Still a top player on his day, but his days are few and far between. Would much prefer we go for Draxler

Footballing reasons: No. Nope. Never.

Marketing reasons: Oh hello.

Wonder what will happen.

Although I completely agree that with the wages he'd likely demand he's a poor signing. But I think people are underestimating his quality on here. If he was to cut his wage demand and Madrid was willing to sell for 40-50 million I think he could be a fantastic signing, he's far from a pure pace merchant. Don't see it happening though.

If he wanted to come back to tottenham (only if he really was motivated though) I'd love to have him back on parity wages with Kane and our highest earners. Never gonna happen though.

If he were to pass all the our (hopefully) stringent mediacal tests and would cost max. £50m then I would take him.

If not then no.

Is he even good marketing wise? It's not like he is South American or good looking. He is just from Wales with a balding head.

Would take him up for £20m
This. 20 mil is worth of risk. But i presume that real will want at least 60 plus his huge wage so it is not worth it. I guess ed thinks the same. But i don't think that this story is even true.
We should target griezmann or dybala.

Wow. 7 years. My favorite Bale moment was the one for Madrid when he got pushed of the pitch and just didn't stop and blew by whoever it was and scored for Madrid. Sheer pace and power.
Same here!
If Bale still has that in him then I would strongly consider signing him.

Managers can set their teams up to play whatever strange tiki-taka stuff they can think of, with five false 8s and seventeen No.10s all floating about, but the power Bale showed in that situation is simply unplayable.

Always has been; always will be.

Yes that is exactly that. Total dominance over your opponent.

It's why R9 was such a force of nature. That Barcelona goal he got pulled back at the start. It didn't matter he was just to fast too strong and too talented.

Yep.
And it's so useful to have at least one of those 'weapon' players in your squad if you are a club with realistic aspirations of winning something.

Bale could be anonymous for 89 minutes and replicate something like you mentioned in the 90th, getting something for his side despite how the rest of the match went or how much generally better the opponent may or may not have been.

Total dominance in a player is basically priceless because there is no one that could do what that player does.
Who else could do what Bale did (against Barca)?

I'd say neck and neck. I'd love to see them in a foot race.
The idea of having Ronaldo vs Bale in a foot-race reminds me of when Mayweather finally met Pacquiao.
It's lovely and all... but five years too late to be completely relevant.

Unless the price was "reasonable", and he puts in an uninjured next 6 months, we'd be absolute mugs to even entertain it.
It'd be a real bank breaker for salary either way

When in recent times have has Real behaved reasonable when we are concerned?
That is almost as likely as Bale going 6 months uninjured.

Had Shaw pegged but maybe because he was fast and Welsh. That's sailed imo.
So no. You?
I'll ignore the nationality issue.

Yeah I see the similarities between Shaw and Bale.
Left Back, pace. But that ship has probably sailed given Shaw's (perceived, assumed) attitude.

Me?
The only one would be David Brooks (Sheffield United).
Check him out (YouTube clips(s) I guess).

Aside from that? No.

I explained the nationality mistake. And David Brooks:lol: of all the names in all the world. @SaintTresano.

would be a fantastic signing so the club doctors and physios don't get bored

Former Southampton players just don't work at United
Luke Shaw
Schneiderlin
and Bale could be a bad signing as well with his injury concerns.... So a resounding NO.

Madrid would probably give him away for free at this point, given how much they are paying him to spend time in the physio room.

Magnificent player, but he’s been wrecked injuries. It’d be madness for us to contemplate signing him at this stage.

No, they definitely wouldn't sell for free. If anything, they'll quote us the fee they paid for him 4/5 years back and refuse to back down from getting that fee from us.

Guess the more interesting question is what fee/wage people would be happy to pay for him. Most people would say no to 80m + the 600k a week he is reportedly on, but I also think most people would say yes for a free transfer and a 60k a week wage.

What fee and wage are people happy to pay for him?

Not my money so I'd be happy if we paid him not to come
