Gareth Bale | Linked with United again

If he were at United already I'd probably want to keep him and hope my patience yielded the kind of fantastic performances of which we know Bale is capable. However signing him for top whack (wages if not fee) when he doesn't really want to be here, with a strong possibility of his injuries recurring, while Real buy themselves the next big thing would sting, to say the least.

As said previously we should have gone all-out to get him from Spurs, or even Southampton if we were scouting him then. It's too late for us now.

No one's going to buy him unless Real massively subsidise his wages

This.

Real missed the opportunity to get rid of him for a good fee. Much like we did with Rooney.

He simply is a crock and the buck stops there.

His wages are astronomical. The whole BBC could quickly prove to be a burden on Real with their wages and ages.

Would be beta if Spurs could get him on loan but they wouldn't even pay50% of his wages.

No way there's anything in this. We've made some dodgy decisions in the last few years but no way we're dumb enough to blow £100m on an injury-prone 28-year-old after buying Sanchez.

Please no. Please, god, no.

If we bought him for remotely what Real paid for him or even just paid his full wages, they’d be laughing to tears at us.

If you offered me the player he was at the end of his time at Tottenham or the first season or so at Madrid, I’d leap at it. That player is gone. I hate to say it, but injury did more than ravage the sky high potential he had. He can barely keep on the pitch enough to matter.

Imagine if Woody pulled it off last summer or the summer before. We’d be yoked with him at top market cost. Even at a cut rate cost, he’d be a waste of money and a squad place for a proper player for the future.

Bale was captivating. He was a burgeoning world class talent that all the elite clubs wanted. It has t come off for him due to beleaguering fitness problems. He’s a gamble we don’t need to take. I wouldn’t give up Martial, Sanchez or even Rashford for Bale. I wouldn’t even want to see Martial crowded out of starting by having Bale—when fit. There is so much more cost than upside to the gamble that we’d be fools to get involved.

I hope we stay clear.

He's a fantastic footballer and one of the few quality left footed inverted forwards in the game. His abilities haven't magically disappeared. He just needs to keep himself fit and play 90 mins regularly. If he improves his fitness levels over the summer (since Wales aren't playing in the WC) it might be a good idea to get him in a cut price deal.

Hargreaves ?
He was not there in your list and Hargreaves was a decade back. And if I remember correctly, Hargreaves broke his leg in last season with Bayern, but he came back for UCL run in. His major injury before that leg break was years back. He was constantly injured after he came to Utd though. But we had already bought him and had no choice.
Here, we have a choice not to bring in a sick note on high wages.

I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling we are stalling on a new contract for Martial because we have some sort of agreement with/interest from Bale for the summer and we want to see how that progresses before committing to a long-term contract for Martial. Bale taking the 11 and Martial heading to Tottenham or Arsenal.

I would be exceedingly happy with this outcome, Martial lift and Lucas right.

This would send me into depression.

if if if

It's not my money they're spending - if United can afford Bale and Jose can fit him into the side then why not, he'd be a great player to have and if/when he gets injured we'd have someone else to come in and do a job. On his day he's world-class and United need world-class players.

The problem here.
His days no longer come often enough.

Surely signing bale would be the end for Martial? He is 22 now and needs to be playing more, With Sanchez and Bale he would be second string for another 2 years.

We're not signing Bale.

We'll keep linked to Bale and Ronaldo till they retire, won't we ?

We're not signing Bale.

I didn't think you were but I don't see why some fans are wanting him, I would take Martial every day over Bale. Funnily enough I think there is a chance Bale will come back to us at some point and I don't know how I feel about that.
