Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

 no

I just reread it - this is why I don't like posting with my phone

I think I tried to say once Jon knew his heritage his feelings towards dany changed
Before that there was a chance he would live happily with her meaning she would be happy too

Yup, you’re bang on the money there. He loved her but couldn’t deal with the incest, extremely important detail there for both characters and their chance of a happy ever after.

What about the theory that Drogon has carried her off to take her to the other red woman, and she will return as an undead dragon queen?

In a few years (when everyone has gotten over this shit), in the form of a movie trilogy..

I thought it would have been a nice call back if at the end of the show they showed Drogon placing her body amongst some eggs it had laid and then burnt them to hatch the eggs. The same way Dany burned Drogo's body to hatch Drogon and the other two. He lost his whole family in Westeros so went back to Essos to start a new one.

I think what also makes people more angry at GoT is that the writers had the option of making more seasons but instead chose to end it in the rushed manner that they did.

(at least I think this is the case?)

Yeah i'm pretty sure HBO and GRRM wanted to do 10 seasons/100 episodes.

I would have loved that but it wasn't to be. In hindsight they maybe should have just hired new showrunners and took their time.

Think the season as a whole has been been a total clusterfeck, but I honestly didn't think they did too bad an the finale. Thought the scene with Jon and Danny leading to her demise was very well done, ok the dragon burning the throne was a bit stupid but this is fantasy. Think the season as a whole should have definitely been spread across 10 episodes, think that was the main problem, they had to compress everything. Overall the show has taken a bit of a knock in my books as a whole, still one of the best TV shows ever but it really could have been even more if they got this last season right.

No it didnt and ill agree with what you said. But it still went through the phase of criticising. A movie and a sports game will have different types of it but still go through it. A tv show (esp a finale) is harder to correct as theres no going back. A movie may be a one off or a culmination but you can still do more connected to it.

Expectations also add to this (but thats to be expected too). I have no issues with any of it by the way. Its why I enjoy coming on this thread, its fun to see the differing opinions (except when people insult others for having different opinions).

I really do hope we get a few more shows that capture everybodys imagination like this one has and can discuss on here.
I really hope so too! It's good to see maturity in discussions too. Tx

That was a batty ending. Jon Snow should have been King. Instead he got sent off beyond the wall. Why? What was the greyworm going do to about it? They should have done a proper coup and killed him too.

When Jon kills Dany is it traitorous anyway since he is the rightful heir? :nervous: So he could have basically just told them all to feck off as he was a Targ and then made whoever he wanted to be King or Queen if he didn't want it.

Still doesn't excuse them wasting two episodes. Everything could have been crammed into one episode.

Technically, sure. And if you could make that work, more power to you. (Dollars to donuts, you'd end up with fans outraged that they'd waited a year to see the reunions that were 'so rushed' - in long run, that's not a problem really) But again, that's where you get into writer talent/ability and from there the other constraining factors. They might have thought that after the year-long hiatus, fans would have wanted 'proper' reunions and thus decided to devote more screen time to them.

Not arguing that the writing was anything but poor.

Word 'on the street' is that HBO was concerned about the remaining story space and wanted the showrunners to commit to more eps in order to properly handle the writing. One season for the whitewalkers and one season for Dany's descent. But the writers wanted to finish up and go after the Star Wars money.

Were in an age where people watch to be critics rather than to enjoy

Whether it has good or bad stuff, you can see people are more interested in discussing the negatives than the positives.

I actually agree with this but not so much in relation to game of thrones which in my opinion did have a massive fall from grace in the past two seasons. There are of course lots of ‘Bro nerds’ on YouTube who just jump on the bandwagon and criticise it just for likes but there’s some good thoughtful analysis from many others.

Again, I do agree that there’s a tendency towards sneering cynicism but the writers of GoT have certainly invited it.

I dread to think how some of the masterpieces of cinema, art and literature would be received in the internet age though :nervous:

Dany got the throne via conquest, to be fair. Unsullied and Dothraki don't give a shit about Targaryan blood.

At the end of Sam showing Tyrion the Song of Ice and Fire book, they may as well have had Tyrion look at it and remark that it's not finished yet, and then Sam looks at the camera, winks, and says "it never will be". What a stupid scene.

As a fighter and schemer Bronn's useful to have on side working for you provided you're paying him, but...like, why the feck is he in charge of finances?

Make him a war general or something. He'd be fecking brilliant at that! But finances clearly aren't his thing. Some severe embezzlement waiting to happen.

Yeah, that was weird.

They needed a Master of War as well.

Bronn is useful to have on your side, but is he really somebody you'd want in a position of supreme power when you're trying to build a better, more merciful and fairer world? He's utterly selfish and brutal to boot, he will do anything for a purse. His kids will likely be brought up the same way.

That last scene was just for the #bantz.

How the f*ck do you GoT fans keep up with the zillions of characters?!? I couldn't keep up with War and Peace, let alone this...

If Dany supports Liverpool (only posed with Salah, didn't confirm), I can totally understand her getting within touching distance of the Iron Throne and then bottling it.:)

Oh dear, don't turn me off Emilia Clarke.

Kit Harrington is a United fan too. Truly ice and fire.

Ah, that's where I'm going wrong.

But in all seriousness, its a pretty overwhelming show initially because there are so many characters and names being thrown about in the dialogue at a fairly rapid rate. Takes a bit of time to join the dots together.

I should rewatch War and Peace, that was quality.

Science has found that GoT watchers, and even more so those who have read the books, are especially intelligent, beautiful, and generally successful at life.

I've no idea why Greyworm wasn't arrested instead of Jon .

Greyworm went mad killed innocent people . Jon killed a mad tyrant same as Jamie who wasn't arrested .

The Dothraki don't care if their leader is killed they follow whoever killed them.

Jon has his army of the North and others plus is the true hier. It seriously makes no sense .
Even if he doesn't want it's his choice other Greyworms

Yeah but Unsullied life is still life and bran wants to avoid bloodshed.

I have more of an issue with the punishment being exaggerated the way it did. First Jon being "exiled" could have been spin positively (he prefers it up there). Next there's no need to rely strip him of titles and name. Finally there is no need to make it a life term. Unsullied will die out in 10-15 years.

Didn’t they have to re-work the pilot, because there was so much going on and so many characters introduced?

Not sure if it was re-shot entirely or what...

I am satisfied where the characters ended, it is not great but decent, yes, road to there was rushed and terrible though. Would have hated it if Jon became a king, this is much better ending for him, ending as a whole is ok, most people are in full hate mode at the moment and nitpicking most ridiculous things. It is far from "worst series finale ever".

While the Game of Thrones has ended, new one is beginning, Game of Moaners.

Well he said so at the end. "Its why I'm here". Again made no sense. If you know you're going to be king but don't want it, don't be there, Bran.

Also, what was the point of him venturing beyond the wall?

Well beyond the wall was because he lost his home, and instead of going to the wall, jojen convinced him to see the 3ER. Once he met the old 3ER, he knew what he had to do. He intentionally had the NK find him, and then leave so the old 3ER would be decimated.
He lied about not wanting to be king. he didnt want to be lord when asked. But for King, hes playing it down so nobody finds out his lies and plotting. What a genius.

Also there must be at least ten posters in here who once the finale aired said they had read the leaks

Most are the ones who were complaining before the episodes and then right after and saying they werent looking forward to the next one...
As I said before, they went into the episode already deciding not to like it.

Those were fairly easy guesses, to be fair.

Now Bran becoming king on the other hand...

I reckon if we went through the pages, we would find posts like robins. Not quite obvious with timelines but something more subtle.

You telling me you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between Bronn, Bran and Brienne.
Or Gendry and Pod?

Madness.
