Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Those that wanted even more Dany foreshadowing probably also wanted a scene with Walder Frey planning the Stark massacre, a scene with the night men planning to stab Jon and a scene with Arya/Sansa planning to kill Middlefinger.

that's stupid. All of those things were done by characters that we already knew were capable of doing them. The whole problem with Dany going mental is that there was zero to suggest she was capable of burning an entire fecking city (the same city she's wanted to rule for most of her life) to the ground, after it already surrendered.

Now I don't follow. We see a pretty normal battle with enemy forces and assets being destroyed (very easily... but that's that). But when the City signs its surrender, she suddenly starts torching people indiscriminately. Where is there an indication for pause against or cause for this behavior?

She's the Mad Queen' FFS, she following in the footsteps of her father the 'Mad King'.

She's mentally deranged and not rational so why are you looking for her to be rational?

The cause for her snapping has been her closest friends and two 'children' being slaughtered, the people she trusts the most in the world betraying her and the man she loves rejecting her.

How much more trauma do you want her to suffer before accepting that she is no longer a rational actor in her life?

So she can't be a good person with short lapses of insanity/madness? It doesn't have to be as black or white as some want it to be, and for the record there was plenty of foreshadowing which makes this perfectly acceptable for me. If anything, this show has always aimed to portray that every person has his/her own motives and isn't inherently evil from the beginning.

She becomes the mad queen in the very instant when she wins and KL surrenders. Not before. She has never acted mentally deranged before. She has never indiscriminately murdered common people, including women and children, for bad things that happened to her. You can shout mad queen all day long, it doesn't change the fact that actual madness was never shown as part of her character until this moment.

 I'd say burning hundreds of thousands of women and kids to death makes that answer pretty obvious.

The Littlefinger kill was dumb, everyone agreed that the Sansa/Arya rift was silly as feck last season.

As for the Red Wedding, the whole reason why it was good is because there were several subtle hints that it was coming. It wasn't something that was thrown at us in one episode, it was built up over 8-9 episodes.

The below is a pretty good video imo.

Apologies for posting the same video that was posted a few pages back.

Why does it have to be?

Do you think when someone is suffering delusions for the first time they are dismissed by medical professionals if they have never had them before?

She was acting irrationally earlier in the series anyway. She was pursuing inept military strategies against the best advice.

Have you never hangover farted in a lift? Good people are capable of inhuman things dude.

Oh, and I hate to bring it up again, but people are sleeping on the most important character that episode...
Shit, can't argue with that.

Who? Tell me, tell me!

Making stupid decisions doesn't equate to someone going insane.

Insanity isn't something that happens with a flick of a switch in your head, you know? You don't go from someone who is sane to insane just because you've suffered grief and then all of a sudden "oh shit bells, I'm crazy now, burn the whole city!"

The bells seemed like a crossroads moment, not something that made her lose it. Not sure why you are driving that point so much.

Her decisions were irrational, a clear indicator that she was losing her grip.

Did you want her doing the whole 'you talking to me' in her mirror or something?

And whenever someone snaps, people will turn every stone for clues afterwards, and find something like 'microwaved hamster at age 10 while wearing high heels and reciting Mein Kampf'.
In fiction, we expect to be shown cause and effect at some point, in retrospect or as foreshadowing, to understand why things happen. Otherwise things end up being a shaggy dog story.

As far as I recall, she generally had the right ideas and listened to dumb advice. Like going for the iron fleet right away. Or not trusting Cersei. Twice.

It's like Walter White started killing people in the last episode of season 1. I could get behind the idea but it just seemed so rushed that it doesn't feel like natural development.

I mean...

I kinda thought the horse may have been something to do with the Many Faced God to help get her out of the city - she is essentially his champion.

Because clearly the bells were, like you said, a crossroads moments, despite them.. being bells? And they were actually a good thing for her, cause y'know, the city she wanted for the last eight seasons was hers now!

I don't see what was irrational about any decisions Dany made until that point? She could be brutal at times but only with those who defy her, never innocents. If anything it's her advisers like Tyrion and Varys that were giving her shite advice constantly. If she hadn't gone "mad-queen" then her decision to invade the city would've looked far more rational than the decisions basically every other character has ever made in the show.

Well if you need to be slapped in face with it then I guess that's where we differ.

I can agree it was rushed though, like the whole series has been.

I don't need to be slapped in the face. I liked GoT best when you had to reconstruct the behind the scenes plot by yourself - the attempt on Bran's life, the red wedding, Jeoffrey's death. There has been enough material in the series to go on for these cases. Sudden unprecedented madness isn't the same level, it's not even the same game.

You thought the guy in the back stands up though.

I still question your pro-pantomime knowledge.

No I didn't!!! The guy at the front stands up and the ones at the back (Hot-Pie) bends over and puts his arms on the guys back! Thats what I said! How dare you insult my theory ffs. Go back and read it again you damn Wolf!

Disregarding all context, yeah.

No, just disregarding made up context.

She killed a lot of innocent people on the way and showed no mercy. Some just because they were caught up in circumstances. She had to always be checked by those closest to her against her own worst impulses.

Now those are dead or betrayed her, she feels entirely isolated and thinks that the only way she can command loyalty from her subjects, is through instilling fear. Which requires a horrible show of force, which is easy to bring about when she's feeling so angry and cornered

I mean you disregard all this context if you want, but don't expect me to agree with you.

You said shoulders. This is important stuff we are discussing here and you are making a mockery of it.

Jaqen would donkey kick the shit out of you if he heard you call him fat.

Speaking of made up context...

Or that was intentional and we find out that Bran warged into Drogon and burnt everyone to make Daenerys look like a Mad Evil bitch allowing Jon to claim the Throne! Bran then winks at camera and pulls his face off to reveal himself as...
That's literally the only scenario that could save it for me at this point despite how daft it would be

If you honestly didn't see Dany's turn coming and are pissed about it then you should stick to something simple, like dot to dots.

Disregarding all context, yeah.
"Watched her brother die. Does nothing." The same brother who beat her and said he would let 40,000 men and their horses rape her to get what he wants.

Somehow I don't think that one bears up to scrutiny.

Even Xaro basically stole her babies!

Edit: Had it right the first time "bears up to scrutiny." So says Google anyway.
