Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

I wasn't expecting to enjoy it too much but gave it a chance. That was two weeks ago. Two weeks later I've seen all 3 seasons and basically blasted through the 3rd one in a day.

Not surprised to see Dinklage getting nominated either. Hasn't he won an Emmy already for it? He's brilliant though. Tyrion is such a great character, as are all of the Lannister's for different reasons.

Would've been better if the two major events at the end of the 1st and 3rd season hadn't been spoiled for me but they were still gripping anyway.

I've already seen all three seasons of this and now am planning to start the books. I don't want any spoilers or want to go ahead of the show. Can anyone tell me till which book it is safe to read?

First two only.

Mega pardon, if it's been already posted but still... http://cphpost.dk/culture-news/lannisters-are-manchester-united-game-thrones

If the Lannister's are Man United, then the Stark's are Liverpool. "Next season is our season", only to be beaten, or in GOT beheaded or some shit like that.

And Dany is like Man City or Chelsea, only instead of buying Sergio Aguero or Fernando Torres she's bought armies and dragons. And dragons are a lot better than Fernando Torres, obviously.

Always thought Dany was more like Madrid in that she gets all the attention without ever actually doing anything.

Melisandre could also be Liverpool.

Red color, fire motive in the badge and her ancient belief system that failed and in result, Stannis going into meltdown, RAWK style.

I've just about finished season 3 now and I have to say that I think the quality is declining.

Having invested so much time and effort in the Stark family and their colossal ineptitude, I was expecting a slightly better fate for them than being cut down by a senile old git and his ragtag family. Although it's something of a relief to see them put out of their misery. I guess at least John Snow is still bumbling about and ensuring that the family tradition of being totally fecking useless survives. As for Sam Gangee or is it Piggy now, he is enough to make the most tolerant of men raise a chant of "Kill the pig, Bash him in". I'm just waiting till he reaches Casterly Rock so someone can drop a boulder on him.

I generally like the Dinares storyline (mainly because I'm a nerd that likes dragon's) but it just seem to be in a loop of having them entering a city, coming up against some obstinate, disrespectful ruler and then over throwing that ruler. Also the fierce queen with a heart of gold act is beginning to jar with me. It worked when she was seen to be enduring hardship but as the story has dragged on and she has gained power, she has begun to seem rather wishy washy.

There are far too many storylines and far too little time to do each one justice. It has become too sporadic and I find myself glazing over during the less developed strands and waiting for the storylines with the characters I like to appear. It often feels like a dense book crammed into ten 50 minute shows. The relationships and politicking used to have a bleak, depressive quality but have now all become very melodramatic and soapy, with at least half the show focused on the relationship tiffs between couples or soon to be couples.

It's not all bad though. Tywin is quickly becoming my favourite character. He undercuts all the malicious scheming and viciousness of his burden of a family, by treating them with a weary contempt, reserved for only the most put upon fathers. He seems only too aware of his spoilt, dysfunctional brood. The scenes with Joffrey, where it is clear to both where the real power lies, are particularly amusing. It's the Lannisters, with the Targaryens and Ayra's storyline which are keeping my going right now.

The Starks are hardly finished completely though. You've got Arya, Bran and Sansa all still around, with Jon still on the go too. Thought their demise was superb as well. Some smaller, not too well known characters killing them off with the approval of the Lannisters of course (and remember Tywin would have been largely behind the whole thing) added that shock element to their deaths.

Dany for me is probably the most boring of the shows "main" characters at the moment. The dragons are good but she seems to be marching through city after city defeating all in her way at the moment. Hopefully she gets on the move next season and actually meets some of the shows other important characters.

While it's very vast and has lots of storylines, I personally think they work very well and all manage to get a good amount of screen time. It's a slow paced show, and with some storylines they're going to drag out beyond a season, but they give each character enough screen time and it's moving along well for me.

Agreed on Tywin though, he's fantastic. With Jofrrey you hate him because of how much of a horrible person he is, but also because he's also weak and pathetic. Even if you hate Tywin though, you've almost got to admire him because he'll do whatever it takes for his family to succeed, even if that means royally pissing off the members of his own family. The one mistake he's made so far though is not realising who Arya was. It doesn't matter for hostages now since they've got back Jaime anyway, but I wonder if his one mistake will come back to haunt him.

Overall though I thought season 3 was easily as good as the others, with Jaime's story in particular being one of the best.

The house words mean something, and the Stark's are 'Winter is Coming'

And there seems to be a general idea that when people don't play by the rules of the "game", they pay for it. Robb turned back on his deal with the old man and it cost him.

So feck heads....when's this one again? I know in the back of my mind somewhere but can't remember. Isn't it a year and a half or something to that effect?

When is it back you mean?

It's basically end of March/start of April every year for ten episodes.

I see....so not as long as I had thought. That's good news. 7 months to go. We have the Premiership to keep us sane. When is breaking bad returning? Sorry, I'm being a lazy cnut here

 No worries. I think GoT has a very tight schedule, hence they limit it to ten episodes instead of the usual 12/13 with HBO in order to get it out yearly, that may change in the future when they catch up with the books (three seasons from now I think).

BB is back August 11th, thankfully.

Hodor.
